But if they had stayed in the car then they would have been alright. Oh...

The wholesale condemnation of anything American? I think people have just concentrated on the 'I must be allowed to own a gun' attitude which most of us find confusing. As you know the country so well, you could try to explain why owning a gun is so important over there, it would be more helpful than just throwing insults at the UK...

It's worth mentioning that all murders in the UK do make the front page of local newspapers (at least) because they are still news. I really doubt that that happens in the USA.

John Oliver has had his say on gun control as well...

I left SMC at the end of the 6th Form in 1965 so I am a bit previous to your era. I suspect that they made their text books last a very long time before ordering new ones!
-
Also went to St Marys College. Also did not have a trial for Southampton Boys with Ted Bates. I remember being very excited on discovering that my Latin text book had been used by John Sydenham though! Having a mother who first went to see Saints at the age of 12 and kept going until she was 90 was an influence though.

Henning Wehn has nearly sold out the Nuffield at the end of May.

I was there - O'Brien and Paine were on fire and there was even a screamer from Harry Penk. We simply blew them away in the first half. Ipswich won the league (Alf Ramsey was their manager) and then took the Top Division by storm the following season .
-
Were any other oldies reminded of Paine and Sydenham by Tadic and Mane?
-
Well said that man!

Who is the third one in from thee left then?

Scousehampton might have been better...

George O'Brien[/b] (leading goalscorer in the early 1960's) was a good penalty expert, but I don't have any stats. to hand. Terry Paine also took quite a few in his career, but didn't always score. I recall O'Brien missed one deliberately in the cup against a non league team (Hersham?) - we had already scored 6 and he seemed to think they had suffered enough so side footed it wide. Paine missed two against Northampton but in each case scored from the rebound.

I have no idea how true any of it is, I am just repeating what I was told so please feel free to dismiss it as the ramblings of a local journalist. He also said that the team spirit is excellent - that bit seems plausible.

According to a friend who works on the Echo... Lallana, Lambert and Rodriguez are all very happy at Saints and should stay. Shaw is too but he likes playing under Pochettino - if the manager goes, the chances are that he will too but only if Chelsea come in for him. If that happens, then we can expect Lukaku as part of the deal. Apparently Liverpool are keen on signing Lovren and his replacement will be Chambers - he is rated very highly and it is believed that he will eventually walk into the England team as a centre half. Nobody knows what Pochettino plans on doing. I should mention that this friend once tipped me off that Sven Goran Erikson was going to our manager...

Maybe Liverpool can claim 1m for the sale of Crouch when Pompey win the Premiership?
