  1. They still seem to be going on about Lowe even though he's gone!
  2. What about Bradford PA, Newport County, Aldershot and Accrington Stanley? The last two have reformed and finally got back into the league but they all folded...
  3. It would make a change form 'football for loss'.
  4. I took my son to Le Havre for a day trip once. I haven't been tempted to repeat the experience...
  5. Were you glad when Jones went too? How about Fuller, Davies, Delap, Higgy, etc.?
  6. August 20th, 1955, Eastcowzer - Saints beat Swindon 2 - 1 with goals from Mulgrew and Walker. Kiernan Ellerington Traynor Mclaughlin Wilkins Elliott Brown Mulgrew Day Walker Hoskins You beat me by three weeks - my first game was Aldershot away (lost 2 - 3) Aged 8
  7. The car park attendant wouldn't let him in anyway.
  8. It will be really disappointing but those days weren't all bad, we used to average 14 000 crowds back then and for games against Brighton and Bournemouth they were over 20 000. It would help to have another Paine and Sydenham though...
  9. Not feeling very well?
  10. Don't forget rounds 1 and 2 (possibly) of the FA Cup - we might get to play Aldershot!
  11. To be fair he says that he shows world class ability in training and now needs to show it where it matters. Your take on the Echo piece glossed over the last bit.
  12. No, I'm a Saint - hence the moral conscience...
  13. I also agree - I will not complain if we do get away with it but would be furious if I supported another team.
  14. I'm no expert on these matters but theoretically isn't it the job that's made redundant not the person? Could we claim that we no longer need any centre forwards?
  15. Nearly - it was August 1980 and the long range effort was from Nick Holmes - just inside the half way line (George scored from close range and with a deflection)
  16. When Prutton missed the open goal against WBA or Higgenbottom scored the own goal against Middlesbrough or Crouch went for the goal instead of the corner flag against Everton or when we fell apart after Villa pulled a goal back... If any one of these had not happened then we would have got the extra two points to keep us in the top division.
  17. Yes - against Charlton.
  18. Partly true, WG - in the 70's/80's there was an ethos that teaching grammar inhibited writing (possibly true but scrapping it was not the answer) and it's only in the last ten years that grammar has been reintroduced into the curriculum with the advent of the Literacy Hour. The problem is that the teachers who are now expected to teach grammar were not taught it themselves...
  19. you're right, I was thinking of Richard and did mix up Griffet and Gillett - I'm not having a very good day!
  20. I think that Hall scored two goals against Bolton in the cup. Didn't Gillet score against Blackburn and newcastle?
  21. I thought that was Al Fayid who said that about Fulham?
  22. Although it was very entertaining, they portrayed him as being a brilliant manager (which he was) and then in the last ten minutes hinted at a darker side - I wish they had explored that some more...
  23. That sounds wrong on so many levels...
  24. More or less what my journalist friend said... He also claims that if we had stayed in the Premiership then Paul Allen was poised to take us over...
