  1. Seems like it's already worked!
  2. Not all religions believe in an after life.
  3. I have never understood the logic of this complaint. The Catholic Church preaches that sex outside of marriage is a sin so if people don't listen to them in that area why would they suddenly pay attention to their teachings on condoms?
  4. At their best they were all sensational players - I think that Paine and Channon were consistently brilliant, though.
  5. Malcolm and Alex's dad?
  6. For sure!
  7. 'Credible' and 'far right' seems a contradiction in terms to me.
  8. Mine was 'Folk Song' by Bernard Cribbens - really embarrassing! My next one was 'Weekend' by Eddie Cochran - 4/10d well spent.
  9. According to this http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2009/nov/02/portsmouth-balram-chainrai-al-faraj? They are £75m in debt...
  10. It also goes with the role that they have in the team - back in the 60's Ian White's job was to always get himself between the ball and our goal, he did this well but the crowd didn't appreciate his efforts very much. Similarly, Jimmy Melia had the job of keeping us 'ticking over' but his numerous short passes sideways used to frustrate the fans who wanted an 'up and at 'em' approach.
  11. Rule Europa... IN
  12. The chap who sat next to me at the Dell had a season ticket for both!
  13. Was Mother Teresa a loser?
  14. I have loved watching Paine, Channon, MLT and Davies - if I had to choose one though, it would be Terry Paine; he did most to transform Saints from a Div 3 outfit to a force to be reckoned with.
  15. George Kirby died in 2000 - I think that the Echo did a piece about him.
  16. The Albion band are right up there with 'Sing Something Simple'!
  17. Not to mention throwing half pennies at the Albion Band's target carried round the pitch during half time!
  18. Thanks Ottery - I was beginning to think that I had imagined him! Now I have a name, I have looked him up and, you are right, he played two games for us in the 1960-61 season. (a 1-1 draw with Leyton O and a 0-1 defeat to Stoke - both at home)
  19. I assume that they have managed to pay their wages this month.
  20. I can recall in the mid 50's that an England Amateur International played for Saints for a while - he was an inside forward (I think) and very stylish. I can't remember his name, though... Anybody know?
  21. Perhaps they are saved after all... http://www.portsmouth.co.uk/newshome/Al-Fahim-promises-to-be.5777017.jp
  22. Harry Penk wasn't a bad player - his biggest problem was that he wasn't Sydenham. Another name from that era is Brian Clifton - he scored some important goals as we pushed for promotion from the third div.
  23. Thanks for that! Fifty years on, it doesn't seem quite so bad. The other programme that frightened me was 'Quatermass' but that was on TV (black and white, of course).
  24. Quite right - Ron Davies joined us after we won promotion (1966) - George Kirby would have been centre forward with the team mentioned.
  25. Me too! They are even worse than I remembered! I likes the comment made by frglee ... This gives me a feeling of doom... Dark Sunday evenings in winter, the weekend over, with school beckoning the following morning, maths homework still not done and a horrible feeling of being trapped in a nightmare of the interminably dull Sundays in a suburban middle class 1960's England. . Summed up 'Sing Something Simple' perfectly.
