  1. Possibly. I don't know anyone else.
  2. Working on late is a common practice in many primary schools, staff even take pride in how late they stay even though they are not really doing anything constructive with their time. When I was 'tutted' at for leaving at 4 pm by one teacher, I pointed out that if she is still at work her time management must be very poor... I was not criticised again (not to my face anyway).
  3. I can recall that when we played Liverpool at the Dell in those days, the Archers would be practically empty ten minutes before kick off (with the Winston doing great business) but by three o'clock it was full. I was not surprised that there was a last minute rush to get into the ground at Hillsborough either, it seemed to be the Liverpool way of going to a match.
  4. Slavery? I guess that it does worry me a bit - sorry about that. But, as you say, there's plenty of examples of evil in the world elsewhere so that makes everything alright. PS I really thought your opening sentence was less than persuasive - after reading that I found it hard to take anything else that you wrote as being valid.
  5. From Saturday's Guardian - well worth a read... http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2011/oct/14/dubai-liam-fox-fundamentalism-capitalism
  6. Sorry about that, it was most unfair - I have a brother-in-law in Johannesburg and reading 'racist, homophobic and sexist' must have triggered something...

    Migraines

I used to suffer from migraines regularly (brought on by flickering lights - low sun through trees etc.) when somebody recommended feverfew. I bought a plant, ate a leaf every day for a couple of weeks and now haven't had an attack for over twenty five years. I think that they make feverfew tablets now,
  8. South Africa isn't a Muslim country...
  9. My daughter worked in the UAE for five years (mainly in Abu Dhabi though) and, although I think she enjoyed the experience, she did work long hours and became quite frustrated with people telling her what they thought she wanted to hear rather than what was actually happening - she learnt that if they added "God willing" to their statement then the chances are that she would be disappointed.
  10. I can remember seeing him score two penalties against Bournemouth in 1960, I'm pretty sure that he placed rather than blasting them.
  11. And before that George O'Brien - he did miss the odd one but nobody struck a penalty harder.
  12. This might be interesting (and relevant)... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2040773/Andy-Carrolls-agent-reveals-footballs-dirty-secrets.html
  13. How about Teaching Maths in the USA?
  14. This (but substitute John Lennon with Buddy Holly).
  15. According to The SaintsHub... Andrew Giallombardo is an American defender who was born in New York, New York on 15th March 1989. Giallombardo began his footballing career with Southampton, but failed to make a first team appearance for the club before departing in 2008. Since leaving Saints Giallombardo has returned to America and now plays for USL Pro side Dayton Dutch Lions.
  16. Me too - though I do like Kam Ling for takeaways.
  17. In the UAE and Oman (the only Muslim states that I have visited), all of the road and shop signs are in Arabic and English. Perhaps they have their own version of the joke?
  18. Yes she did, 124 Shirley Road - it was first a fresh fish business and then a haberdashery. It is now Johnny's Fish and Chips.
  19. I read somewhere that it was a 'pay as you play' deal so it could have amounted to nothing.
  20. It depends on how much time he had left on his contract.
  21. Absolutely - I sang "Harry and Jim are red and white" along with everyone else and believed all would be well.
  22. It did turn out to be a bad appointment but, at the time, I seem to remember everyone thinking it was a great one.
  23. Whilst teaching in Gosport I was told that one of our scouts was beaten up whilst watching a game at Brune Park School because he was from Southampton. Consequently we don't send our scouts to that area anymore.
  24. Perhaps a bit of G&S would fit the bill ... 'He is an Englishman'
  25. What's happened to the bus?
