Pompey never had any money. Ours do, thats the difference. The 40k being a bargain was in reference to getting a world class goalie on less than average PL wages. We are building a 45k stadium so the owners will cover the losses until thats built and then the club will be sustainable. We have a massive following in asia and sold millions of shirts and also the sky money is huge next season, £60m which means the stadium capacity is less important. We will probably spend around the same or less (if you sign Ramirez) than Saints on new players this season and that will include wages. Cesar over 4 years works out £5m cheaper than Rodriguez if hes on 30k and Cesar 40k.
-
Weve trimmed the squad down and signed 7 players and spent less than Saints.
-
How much more wrong could you be? It was confirmed on the official site for the training ground to be completed in 2013. How does a club apply for an academy when the facilities arent built yet? Granero has signed from Real Madrid, hes 25, Mbia is due to sign too and hes 26 and we are after Kjaer whos supposedly signing whos just 23. Even with all those signed, we will still have spent less than Saints if you sign Ramirez. Cesar is supposedly on just 40k a week. Saints are trying to do a Norwich and that results in relegation 90% of the time and this season is the worst year ever to be relegated. Id rather sign genuine top class players than the likes of Jarvis for £12m or Rodriguez for £7m. If we stay up then you will be wrong, if we go down then you will be right. Lets see in 8 months time.
-
What is it then, if its 25k then what would you rather have, £4m and a NPC player or a genuine world class player? I think Cerny got injured and Green has been awful in every game, even in pre season so something had to be done. As for a new team, we have 4 (5 including Cesar) new players and a wage bill lower than last season and also behind Saints in spending with £1.5m spent on fees.
-
I dont think so, the TV money is £60m next year and whoever goes down is in real trouble. Cesar, Granero and Mbia should mean a top half finish. If Rodriguez is on 40k a week, he will cost the same as Cesar over 4 years.
-
Esteban Granero from Real is signing next! Id love to know MLGs opinion on it. Weve also done a jedi mind trick on marseilles and convinced them to swap Mbia for Barton. As for Green, Hughes wants to keep him.
-
Lots of bets have been put on him joining a london club and it seems WHU are the favourites. Should have within a week if it does at all.
-
Theres a pretty good chance you wont be bottom if you manage to get a point, QPR have Man City (a) Chelsea (h) Spurs (a) as the next 3 games and have a bad GD already.
-
Local paper says thats wrong and its just £3m and hes only 28, hardly past it.
-
Having people sign only for the money is not a good idea, trust me I know 1st hand. It can splinter a dressing room when other players arent happy about someone earning 3 times as much as them, especially if he doesnt perform.
-
Heres a QPR view on Saints and all teams, its worth reading the last line for every team. "If they were a monarch from history… Philip V of Spain: Ruled for 24 years with only minor scrapes along the way, disappeared for a bit when his son Louis (Portsmouth) took over the throne. Returned for a further 22 years after Louis’ sudden death."

All you have to do is mention their away support if you want to shut them up, they sometimes struggle to take 3 figures in games north of the midlands.

Also, the price will be higher as thats when the teams will be most desperate. Then theres the big chance of panic signings if youre 1st choice targets go elsewhere. Thats the only explanation for the likes of QPR signing Barton, SWP, Bothroyd and Puncheon and something that relegated us. -
Cant do that unless the home fans are charged that. The QPR match is £30 and £32 although Norwich are charging £45 for QPR. Just be thankful that Saints will be the lowest cat matches for virtually all teams. The big teams are charged £40-£55 for every game.

Is It The Southampton Way or the highway For Nigel Adkins?
Flyer replied to BILLY's topic in The Saints
You can play 442 in the PL, I watched QPR beat Arsenal, Spurs and Liverpool in the last few weeks of the season and nearly get a result at Citeh (if it wasnt for a certain scouse **** and the news coming through that we stayed up). as for Adkins, I dont think he will last long. Saints are trying to do a Norwich by buying good NPC players but usually that doesnt work. Norwich were very lucky. They had the most goalline clearances, the opposition hit their post most, conceded the most goals of the teams that stayed up and their goalie made the 2nd most saves in the league. Changing the formation to one the players arent comfortable with could be a disaster and the manager might not even make it to xmas. -
From WAATP: 8. Southampton to ‘do a Hull/Blackpool’ divebomb act: Come screaming out the blocks, top three until October, 12th by Christmas and relegated by goal difference on the last day of the season, going down in a blaze of glory. One thing we’ll tell you right here and now: While many are touting Ricky Lambert for a ‘Grant Holt’-style season; battering the ever-lovin’ plop out of Premier League defenders and keeping the Saints afloat with his goals – we’d advise a bit of caution. He may have scored shed loads in the Championship but he’s not nearly as dynamic as Holt, and that really is saying something. I dont even see Saints coming out of the blocks fast with the start they have.
-
Saints can be banned from signing players as thats the usual punishment for tapping up. They could be stuck with the current team for 1 or 2 windows.
-
Hughes is the exact opposite of what you said (1 win in his 1st 13 games at QPR for example), he starts awful but then gets going and has got every team hes managed into Europe, including Blackburn and Fulham. Hes also produced some great signings like Samba from out of nowhere and the only really bad signings people link to him are the ones bought for him at Man City like Robinho. Saying that 8th is out of reach, more like 11th-13th.

Fabio should be the RB and Traore the LB. I think/hope the Richardson/Heinze rumours were agents making noise and we only seem to be looking at CBs in defence. -

He did really well last season, especially when moved to LW but will probably play LB this season. -
Swap Swansea and Stoke for Saints and WHU and I agree with that.
-
Thats just to get people to buy tickets, Saints aim is to finish 17th and then build for next season. I dont think Saints have the quality to stay up but then again thats what everyone said about Norwich although they were the exception to the rule.
-
Id prefer them to use their common sense and not give yellows for fouls that are 1 10th late or are a complete accident and just give yellows for cynical fouls and not genuine attempts to win the ball.
-
You have to register 3 keepers and if you dont then your squad limit is 24 so it doesnt matter if he registered or not unless Saints sign 2 more goalies over 21.
-
QPR charge £3.50 per transaction for all card purchases but I think Saints is worse as you should only be charged once but they are all a rip off, the transaction only costs 50p and only American Express costs more. Something should be done to limit the costs, especially when its probably cheaper for clubs if you book online rather than go in person with cash.
