Do we really deserve to get promoted...?
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to david in sweden's topic in The Saints
the ccc will be weak next season with Hull likely to go into admin if relegated,Burnley & Pompey nothing to really fear(against this year with Newcastle &WBA) and lots of skint sides. We would have a realistic possibility of challenging for a play off place imo.Just need the miracle to happen this season -
James best position is central midfield. He would be desperate to play well to still have a chance of remaining a Saint next season as he must know his squad position next season is under threat if we bring in another cm & rb as expected. We should play him or Puncheon in cm.

Can see Charlton losing at Exeter who need the points,Losing at home to Leeds and then the pressure would really be on in the last game as long as we don't slip up.Gillingham will be a very difficult game for us. Can see Swindon losing to Wycombe as they have need to win to have a chance of staying up and have won their last 3 games and Millwall away. With the pressure on could they mess up to Brentford at home? I have had this sneaking feeling that Huddersfield will not win at Stockport. All logic says they should but Stockport will be playing for pride and its a lancashire/yorkshire derby.Colchester will need to win at Huddersfield and Exeter away is tough especially if they need a result. So you never know. Hopefully one of these 3 sides will bottle it.We will need maximum points to have a chance however. Is it written in the stars like last time we made the play offs beating a relegated Southend on the last day of the season?

Huddersfield game against Millwall will be crucial imo.Millwall are top of the current form table over the last 8 games just infront of us.Hopefully Millwall can win or at least get a draw. I can see Huddersfield losing at Exeter and maybe only drawing against Colchester. Then I have this strong vibe that the will co*k it up against Stockport.I predicted them losing to Brentford last week.Their away form is suspect,Stockport will want to finish on a high and will have no pressure in that game and its a yorkshire/lancashire derby type game.Yes Huddersfield are expected to win this game and will be strong favourites like they are for 6th place but there will probably be a major surprise result so Stockport might be it!? I think Huddersfield will drop enough points. Are we good enough to take advantage? If Gillingham lose at home to Leeds on Saturday they are likely to need to beat us to stay up.Likewise Southend could still have a chance last game of the season of staying up making that game potentially more difficult. Charlton could lose all 4 games. All their games are tough.Colchester may draw or lose at Hartlepool on sat.Hartlepool have won 4 out of their last 5 home matches.Even Tranmere & Orient at home are banana skins with both of them battling relegation. There are no easy games left for any side imo.If we approach one game at a time and don't get complacent we just might make it.
-
Next 7 days will go a long way to deciding our fate this season. If we win both of our away games this week then I believe we will make the play offs.I can see Huddersfield dropping points to Millwall this week and possibly even Walsall as they have picked up and Huddersfield are wobbling.Likewise I can see Colchester losing at Charlton and Hartlepool away you never know as it is a potential banana skin for them and Hartlepool need the points. So if we can be 5 points behind and a game in hand by this time next Saturday then I will be very hopeful.Till then I wont be as it would be typical for Saints to beat Bristol Rovers on tuesday then lose to Yeovil next Sat!! So this is the most crucial week so far this season imo

Huddersfield v Oldham Build Up / Match Thread

I can see Huddersfield losing to Brentford,Exeter & Millwall. So we then need a slip up against Colchester or Walsall at home. They are massive favourites at the moment but you never know!! If they beat Brentford away on saturday then I think it is all over. They were always likely to win tonight but we hoped for an unlikely slip up which didn't materialise -
The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to supersonic's topic in The Saints
I hope we sign a better rb than Semi.Maybe sign Semi as the back up. Think we can sign better than Papa & Antonio aswell.Would sign Antonio as a squad player like Semi Remember AP has already said we will be signing players to take us to the premiership this summer even if we are still in div1 which is likely. We will be signing good ccc players and maybe 1/2 out of contract prem players available on frees. With so many teams near admin we will be able to take real advantage this summer imo I expect 5 to 7 new additions to replace players like Murty,Thomas,Perry,Lancashire,Wotton,Gillett,Holmes,Thomson,Pulis,Boyle & Molyneux all of whom I think will be released this summer. It will be an exciting summer imo and we will sign some real quality for this league. We don't need many 1st team players signed but we need a better squad to win this league.I however doubt we will just sign squad players!? -
Saints V Orient Post Match Reaction Thread
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to St Landrew's topic in The Saints
The worst I have seen us play at home this season but at least they won!! The result is all that matters this time of the season. This team will not dominate this division next season imo.We do have the majority of the team in place however Assuming we don't make the play offs we will still need a number of new players next season if we are going to dominate this league and to cover for injuries.I would not sign Semi as I think we can find much better in the summer. We will no doubt sign a couple more midfielders, another striker, another centre back.I expect 4/5 quality additions to our squad reading between the lines from what has been said in the press. From what I have seen in recent games I think these players will be needed next season to have an excellent chance of an automatic promotion spot. Are Semi,Antonio,Wotton,Thomas,James etc good enough for our very ambitious chairman and chief exec? Can we get better players?Remember we have serious money to spend and clout and many players will be interested in joining us and there will be plenty of frees from the premiership and championship etc. -
If Huddersfield and Charlton don't win tomorrow then it will start to look very interesting again. Great results today and I think too many people on here assume that teams like Charlton,Colchester and huddersfield will win at places like Exeter. I think Huddersfield or Charlton or maybe both will slip up away at Exeter like Leeds,Colchester and we have. There will be more twists and turns in this play off race yet.Colchester will not make the play offs imo when you look at their fixture list.It is whether we can catch Huddersfield or Charlton

Brighton vs Saints Match Reaction Thread
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to SO16_Saint's topic in The Saints
This was our toughest game left imo and the late point could be the point that gets us a play off spot.Unlikely now but if we can beat both Leyton Orient and Charlton at home we can then see how many slip ups our rivals make as they all have difficult games and we would have a game in hand again -
After todays results have been looking at our rivals remainimg fixtures. Colchester have got Exeter(A),Millwall(h),Swindon(H),Charlton(A),Hartlepool(A),Tranmere(H),Huddersfield(A),Leyton Orient(H) Very tricky run in.Can see them losing to all their promotion rivals or certainly 3 of those games so a slip against an Exeter or Hartlepool away could cost them a play off place Charlton fixtures MK Dons (A),Carlisle(H),Saints(A),Colchester(H),Norwich(H),Exeter(A),Leeds(H),Oldham(A) Can see 5 defeats there possibly Huddersfield have got Wycombe,Brentford,Stockport and Exeter Away Oldham,Walsall,Millwall and Colchester at Home. There is definately 3 or 4 banana skins there. For the people who think Bristol Rovers or MK Dons could be a threat.Bristol Rovers fixtures include Norwich,Leeds and Saints and MK Dons include Charlton,Norwich and Leeds. They also have to play each other. It's a long shot and we can only afford one more slip up( if that) but looking at these fixtures it definately isn't over yet and 76 points could be enough to make it and 80 points certainly would be.Next weeks Brighton game could be the crucial one as it won't be easy winning there.I fancy us winning at Bristol and Yeovil and if we were still in with a play off chance at Gillingham I think we would win there aswell
-
IMO worst result of the season. This was a game we should have won with the side we have now got,This is a really really poor result and very disappointing particularly as Swindon and Huddersfield slipped up today. Why can't we beat these bottom sides? If we are going to win this league next season our away form will have to be a lot better. This is what worries me for the people who say we will walk this league next year.If we can't beat these sides now why will we next season and next season we are likely to be the biggest scalp in this league with every team raising their game against us. Very frustrating day
-
we apparently asked the football league what the minimum number of tickets that we had to give Leeds and were told 2000 and that is what we have given them

Wycombe V Saints - Post Match Reaction
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to St Landrew's topic in The Saints
Totally pathetic. If we can't start beating these sided we will not go up automatically next season. Not getting a cm in the January transfer window is costing us dear imho. That position must be addressed in the summer if we are going to go up next year -
So which games do people think we won't win then if you're giving up on the play offs?We can and should beat every team at home and I fancy us winning all our away games. So imho winning 15 games is very achievable with the fixtures we've got left.Wycombe is the crucial game to get momentum and to follow up the great win at Norwich. I really fancy us beating teams like Huddersfield,Swindon and Charlton at home and maybe even Leeds. The players are really up for a play off charge and believe they can make it if you seen recent interviews with people like Lallana and Fonte Why can't we have a run like Norwich have had ? Didn't they get 44 out of 48 points and we've just comfortably beaten them in their backyard
-
The next 8 games will determine if whether we could make a late season charge for the play offs. If you look at our last 10 games we could easily win the lot of them and you would certainly fancy us winning at least 8 of those games with Hartlepool,Leyton Orient,Charlton,Oldham,Carlisle and Southend at Home and Brighton,Bristol Rovers,Yeovil and Gillingham Away So to the next 8 games : Norwich(a),Wycombe(a),Walsall(h),Huddersfield(h),Tranmere(a),Leeds(h),Swindon(h) and MK Dons(a). Some tough games but I fancy our chances against anyone at home and we would certainly be very disappointed not to beat Wycombe and Tranmere away from home. Then we have already beaten MK Dons away in the cup and for some strange reason I fancy our chances at Norwich. So when you look in depth at our fixtures things are still possible. We probably won't make it to the play offs but with those fixtures we certainly could!!

Nicola wants better League Results
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to Channon's Sideburns's topic in The Saints
AP should stop tinkering with the team.IMO the team is weaker with Seabourne,Semi and Barnard in at this particular time than playing Jaidi,Thomas and Waigo in their positions.I would also pick Harding infront of Mills. Then Holmes gets back in the team does nothing wrong and is then dropped. This tinkering can not be helping with team morale. same could be said for Bart. I wonder if this tinkering has contributed along with Hammond & Connelly's injuries with the downturn in performances on the pitch. I'm glad that NC has put pressure on AP.At least he now knows he can't just coast for the rest of the season and needs to get this team back on track I want AP to succeed and be our manager next season as we need stability at this club.Another change would not be great but NC & ML will not accept failure so AP needs to get this team motoring either this season or certainly next -
I think the recession and the fact most ccc sides are broke will play into our favour for next season.look at how depressed the transfer market was in January.Very few ccc will come knocking for our players they will be looking to pick up frees Most sides will not be able to afford Lambert,Lallana,Schneiderlin etc and we dont need to sell.We might be able to pick up a few more frees like Jaidi,Connelly etc from premiership and ccc sides. We will be a highly attractive side to join in the summer outside the prem as we will be favourites by a country mile to win this league next season with the resources we have got. If we were to lose a couple of players we now have the resources to buy decent replacements.I do think there will be another 4/5 decent additions to our squad in the summer with all the deadwood or certainly most of it moved on.We will add more players to ensure we have a core squad capable of destroying this division like AP said he wanted to. Currently proven by the Exeter game we still have more rebuilding to do imho to ensure we finish top 2 next season,ML & NC will not be taking any chances of not succeeding next season
-
What worries me is that we need to be comfortably beating and outplaying these sides if we are going to walk to automatic promotion next season as the play offs have now gone this season.I'm not convinced that this team is capable of that and will need further additions in the summer. It'a a shame we couldn't agree a fee for Stock as I think he would have been the difference with Hammond missing against both Exeter & Brentford Our form on the pitch at present is not acceptable. Yes we are getting draws but what has gone wrong since November!? We are seriously missing Hammond and Connelly and desperately need them back asap.
-
over 26000 now sold for the game which is fantastic for a mid week game.Heading for a near sell out.Should be a cracking atmosphere. Now we just need a performance and result from the team.
-
I think it is very realistic with our current squad and home form to think we could at least win 8 out of our remaining 10 home games. You then look at our away fixtures Exeter,Wycombe,Tranmere,Brighton,Gillingham,Yeovil,Bristol Rovers and MK Dons are all very winable games.Norwich is the 1 real tough game.I could easily see us winning 6 out of the 9 games which would give us the 14 wins AP was saying we needed. Play offs difficult but not impossible imho
-
AP would just turn round and say too good an opportunity to miss came up tomorrow if we did sign someone!! For me Danns is exactly that and would be an excellent addition to our midfield which is looking threadbare at the moment.ie not enough quality. We have only one chance of getting this player imo which is tomorrow as he will not join us in the summer as Palace will probably be sorted out by then. We have had a very good transfer window, getting Danns would take it to a totally unbelievable level. So I for one hope this rumour does have serious legs.

Saints V Stockport County - Post Match Reaction
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to St Landrew's topic in The Saints
Hopefully we will have a few players back next week like Connelly,Hammond & James.Murty can't be far off being fit now and we've got Puncheon to add to the midfield. So hopefully we can only get stronger from here. Thought we could **** it up today after the 1st half so relieved with the win. -
Dont know who is out of contract in the summer but assuming we can keep everyone we want to in the squad I think the following will be replaced in the summer:- Perry & Thomas Wooton & Gillett All likely to be moved on but you never know AP might feel they could do a job as squad players for another season Possibly Otsomber & Murty Holmes Waigo & Antonio Bart If AP does not want to keep these players or better players become available So I think there is likely to be atleast another 4/5 arrivals in the summer aswell assuming we are still in Div 1. What do other people think?
-
could be a smokescreen so the supporters aren't expecting a signing but would not surprise me if one of these other 3/4 players we were enquiring about became available at the right price on monday that we would strike a deal?
