I believe it will all come down to if we land our transfer targets in the next 6 days!!! If we don't I think we will be very lucky to land the 2nd automatic place. We would need to be exceptionally lucky with injuries. If we land CMS and a couple of others then I believe we should land 2nd spot and might catch Brighton but at this stage I would happily take 2nd place

Tranmere 2 - 0 Saints Post Match Reaction
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
Typical result by Saints.Still very inconsistent and today is not good enough. It is now time to flex our financial muscle and get some reinforcements in as the bench today was on the whole not good enough imo. I will be amazed if we do not have at least 2 new players by the end of the window and from the way NA talks (reading between the lines probably 3).NC and NA will not want to chance it and that is why I am absolutely convinced that they will strenthen. With our current squad it is too much of a risk with their inconsistency that we will miss out on automatic promotion.Just imagine if this team stuck a performance like today in the play offs against a better side!!! -
If you really think we don't need to buy...

Our bench is not good enough imo.I think if we don't add to this squad we will not get an automatic promotion spot due to our inconsistency. Very very poor performance and result today. We all know it will be a rollercoaster ride but we really should be doing a lot lot better against sides like Tranmere. We need another winger, striker and central midfielder which I have been saying all season to have the strength in depth we need to cope with injuries and loss of form -
It is obviously not a done deal as he wouldn't be in our starting 11 today would he!!!?
-
My view has not altered all season that we need these players and the Notts County game proved Gobern is not ready that we need another winger and another striker if NA won't play Connelly. We should only bring in players who will enhance our team and be able to play in the ccc.If we can't get them then we should use the loan system. As I said in my article before you jumped down my throat this squad might get automatic promotion. I feel we need to strengthen to ensure the 5 year plan stays intact if the right players are available and want to join us
-
The 10 away games are Tranmere,Exeter,Peterborough,Rochdale,Hartlepool,Walsall,Colchester,Bournemouth,Charlton amd Plymouth. I would be vey disappointed if we did not win at least 5/6 of those.By the time we play Hartlepool,Colchester and Bournemouth they are all likely to be going backwards due to the squad sizes.I bet some will look at these fixtures and say we should win all 10!!
-
IMO Charlie Austin,Ryan Harley and Woolford = Automatic promotion. Today showed we still lack strength in depth for all the people who have been harping on here that we don't need to sign anyone.Oscar Gobern is not ready,we had no alternatives on the wings with Lallana and Holmes injured and if NA doesn't rate Connelly and won't play him from the bench we need another option there. This squad might get automatic promotion but with 2/3 quality additions I would feel very confident not just hopeful.I agree we shouldn't just buy anyone and we need quality. We should use the loan system like all of our rivals if we can't secure our targets
-
We are trying to strengthen with substantial bids in according to NA.If we can get the right quality players in to enhance our squad further with players capable of helping us challenge at the top end of the championship then all well and good. There is no point bringing average players in who will not be good enough for next season if we fulfil our goal this season. We can always bring in loans like all our rivals have done if we can't sign the players we want for whatever reason which can cover injuries and loss of form upto sometime in march when the loan window closes. I think our current squad is good enough but if we could sign Austin,Danns,Woolford or players of that calabre I would be very happy to have the extra quality in our squad
-
lets hope sky have got it right for a change. On the Southampton ins page it is saying Guly undisclosed as our latest transaction so lets hope they know something we have not had confirmed yet!!
-
We have already made substantial bids for players
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to NickG's topic in The Saints
Substantial bids means the likes of Austin,Le Fondre,Danns,Stock and Woolford could be being bid for? I think we will try and bring in another striker, winger and possibly another centre back and central midfielder aswell as Guly permanentely.Exciting times and we couldn't have timed our good form better as it will be easier to persuade the type of players we want sitting in 2nd place than 11th that we were 3 games ago!! More important is not losing Lallana,Chamberlain,Fonte and Lambert -
Walsall Weather Watch / Build-up Thread - Game called off!
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to Master Bates's topic in The Saints
Bet Sheff Wed wished they had been snowed off. They have been the only top side to play in the 2 weeks every other game has been called off due to the weather and they have lost both to Swindon and Exeter. This is excellent news for us as they have money to spend in Jan and will definately be a major challenger for those top 2 automatics at the end of the season. We just need to get our act in order now!!! -
Are we going to be dissapointed in January?
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to doddisalegend's topic in The Saints
we will bring 3 players in absolutely certainly imo.Chaplow, a winger and a striker as a minimum. Without these we can certainly kiss goodbye to promotion this season as our strikeforce is not good enough this season Both NA & NC know this -
Saints 0 Brentford 2 - Post Match Depression
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
lets hope the new players we hope to bring in January are currently finalising deals and are signed in the 1st few days of January before we lose too much ground unless the weather does us a massive favour a snows off the christmas fixtures.I do not fancy us beating Charlton and Huddersfield with our currently inept strikeforce. Really really poor result.Lets hope we have a big backlash to today and go on a serious unbeaten run -

I am happy with NA despite yesterdays result.I think it is the players who are on trial and if they don't perform they will be replaced in January imo.I get the feeling we will be active in January if we need to be and we can be absolutely certain there will be changes upfront. Lambert is the big problem this season and if he had shown half the form of last season we would currently probably be sitting top with the amount of chances we have had in most games despite not playing that well. I will be interested to see if we try and bring another striker in on loan before the loan window closes to make sure we are still in the mix come January or will NA have the guts to drop Lambert and play Guly and Barnard next Saturday? It might just give Lambert the kick up the backside he needs and will at least take him out of the firing line for a game or two.

Who else is really worried by the fact we supposedly have wanted a back up striker all summer and then meant to be getting a loan and still no sign of one arriving!!! Are we skint? Does no one want to join us? Surely there must be some decent strikers out there who could do a job for us. If we don't get this sorted soon this could seriously derail our starting recovery. One fit striker for a team that wants to go places this season is unbelievable and I can't believe how long it is taking to sort out.We don't even know if they are prioritising getting a striker in as they never talk to the fans these days
-
If we do not get these desperately needed players in ie striker, winger and central midfieldere this sesaon is over.Things will not turn around without a couple of additions and I can't believe NC can't see this.Ambitious!!!!! what a total joke.GET THESE PLAYERS IN BEFORE THIS SEASON IS A RIGHT OFF!!!

If we don't add to the squad the season is finished imo with no chance of promotion or even the play offs and crowds will continue to be 17 to 18k as the rest of us will not return!! Yes I can be called a fair weather fan as many of the non season ticket holders are but with no fit strikers, the fact we can't score,no decent signings we were promised in the summer and in the season of real hope Saints totally shooting themselves in the foot no wonder so many are totally disillusioned and currently can't be bothered to spend there hard earned cash. Without the 3 signings I Have bleated on about all summer as many others have ie the back up striker, central midfielder and speedy winger we have zero hope of getting out of this league.I thought NC was meant to be very ambitious. At the moment he is showing no sign of this.Ihope he shoves this statement back down my throat very soon or I will start to believe the money has gone and we are skint. I hope the statement we won't be bringing any signings in is false -
4 defeats in a row, no goals......!
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to modern matron's topic in The Saints
Hope we have some loan players or frees like Vassell lined up to join very very fast.Ideally we need 1 in tomorrow and 2 next week for this season not to be a total right off. What a total shambles. How can a team that was generally so good in the 2nd half of last season be so pi** poor this season. The players should be ashamed of themselves. No doubt we will go and win at Sheff Wed Saturday week just as everyone has written off the season as that is typical Saints. -
AP should be ashamed of our pre season which was a total shambles and I have heard from one of the season ticket holders that went to the meeting with NC last week that NC was seriously pi**ed off with spending a lot of money on the Switzerland tour for them to come back unfit!!NA needs to get them fit asap There are still lots of decent players without a team like Vassell,Butt and Demerit available.I wonder if there are any worth taking a gamble on. We also need 2/3 loan signings pronto to get this side seriously shifting in the right direction.According to Scunny fans NA has an excellent record in the transfer market of finding gems and coaching them into much better players which sounds good. So good luck NA and don't take any sh*t from these premadonna players.Hopefully they will all be with you but if a couple aren't then get rid as none of them are bigger than the club

Wilkins 'admits' management failure to make signings
WATERSIDEIFASAINT replied to Professor's topic in The Saints
If we lose today our start to the season has been a bloody disaster. If we had brought in the players we had needed to strenthen the squad this would not have happened imo. I fear we could be heading for a very disappointing season and todays game will be a very good pointer. No disrespect to Rochdale but if we can't beat them at home then the play offs let alone automatic promotion will become a distant dream. In a season that should have brought so much every Saints fan I know and that is a lot are all totally turned off from the football thanks to NC'S actions. We will be lucky to get £15k today against Rochdale. This whole mess is NC's making(unless he communicates and tells us otherwise)and he needs to sort it out very fast unless this season could be beyond us by the time things do get sorted.Who fancies us beating Swindon,MK Dons,Colchester and Sheff Wed our next 4 games after today with the players current state of mind? Currently very fed up ,angry and dissillusioned like many others I know. Its upto NC now to change this self inflicted mess!! -

I do not agree. Our 1st 11 is strong enough to get us promoted our squad is not.Any injuries and we will end up in the play offs lottery and not automatics. -
From what I heard Paul Tisdale was offered the job before AP last time but had just signed a new contract with Exeter 2 days before and declined our offer out of loyalty to the Exeter chairman who he had given his word to.So if that has got any truth then up and coming managers like Howe,Clark and Tisdale could be in contention. I think NC will pull a rabbit out of the hat on the appointment.Doncaster fans are very nervous that we will come knocking for Sean O'Driscoll who I think would be an excellent appt. We now know why we have seen none of these high profile signings we were promised this month.Think the new manager will use the loan market and will then have £3-4 million to spend in January so this new appt is not going to be cheap for NC what with compensation to pay aswell. With the resources and players we have got a lot of the managers linked should be able to build a successful side.If they are better than AP who knows but I am willing to give them and NC a chance. AP has done a good job for us but not a great job and he has his faults ie substitutions,a dreadful waste of space preseason and our team does as fit as some of our opponents.I would not of sacked him and thought he was going a good job but if NC thinks he is not the man or he can get someone better then I will trust him as he has a lot more to lose than the rest of us with this decision.if we do not get promoted now this season NC will be blamed

Very worried after reading that latest interview from AP.We still need 3 players imo to be brought in not 1!!!! Why is he now not looking to bring in a back up striker for Rickie that he has said he needs?? Not convinced by Jaidi and think we need another cb We also need the pacy winger In the ideal world I would also bring in another cm as I would not want Wooton or Pulis anywhere near the 1st team. So far I have been totally underwhelmed with our transfer activity this summer.Actually I am very disappointed in it after AP said we would have a squad capable of challenging in the ccc not just div 1 by the end of the summer. So what has changed. Is NC unwilling to back AP? We have a good team but not the team I thought would destroy this league this season with the signings we were led to believe were likely to happen this summer. Hope to be proved wrong by the end of Tuesday night with 2/3 new additions I think we really need to add some serious competition for places in our squad. -
If we don't get these necessary players in fast we will definateley miss automatic promotion imo.Our squad does not have enough depth and some of the 1st 11 seem complacent and unmotivated at the moment due to lack of decent competition in our squad. We will probably also have the upheaval of AP being sacked in the next few games if things don't change fast which probably won't help our cause for the automatics
