This has always been my favourite SWF thread. I love how it's mutated over the years, and how more and more videos are being posted. I thought I'd post a couple of video mixes that have impressed me lately. First up is a 10 minute video mix preview from Hexstatic. This is utterly insane. It feels akin to something the CIA would use as part of their Rendition Roadshow. I felt disorientated watching it, like I was experiencing sensory overload. At the back of my mind was the nagging feeling that I was being brainwashed. I recommend watching fullscreen in HD with some headphones with decent bass response. LSD will be provided. http://vimeo.com/65906479

It's getting on for 25 years since De La Soul released their ground breaking album, '3 Feet High and Rising'. United States of Audio have created a one hour mix that is essentially a deconstruction / documentary about the making of the album, that features original samples, interviews etc. The mix includes about 100 tracks and took several years to complete. It's in the same vein as the incredible deconstruction of Paul's Boutique by DJ Food, DJ Cheeba and DJ Moneyshot, that appeared last year. It's available as a free download here https://soundcloud.com/ninja-tune/solid-steel-radio-show-24-5-1 If you didn't catch the Paul's Boutique mix, it's still available to download here https://soundcloud.com/ninja-tune/solid-steel-radio-show-31-8-1 Both highly recommended.

Been listening to some pretty experimental glitchy stuff from Australia. I've put a mix together for those of you who like that sort of thing. Download it here https://soundcloud.com/hilltop_anarchists/in-search-of-ancient

I've now unrooted my phone and installed the stock Samsung 4.1.2 upgrade. I'm really impressed. The multi window function is excellent and really useful. Although the apps that are compatible are currently limited to the obvious ones such as Maps, Gmail, Chrome, YouTube, Video Player etc, I'm sure other apps will become compatible in time. I shall be sticking with this ROM for the time being.

The same issue arises with the Barclays banking app, which will not work with a rooted phone. However, ExTweaks, which is bundled with the Siyah kernel (which in turn is bundled with the Resurrection Remix ROM) gives you the ability to remove and reinstall all root files (su and superuser apk files). It will even automatically re-root when your phone reboots, thus neatly sidestepping the issue. Where there's a will.......

Rooting the phone will not remove bloatware. Rooting gives you enhanced superuser access to the phone, like administrator rights on a PC. Once your phone is rooted you can do loads of cool stuff like remove bloatware, remove ads, install root apps from Play Store, install custom operating systems (ROMs) etc. Here is a good place to start: http://www.xda-developers.com/android/how-to-root-the-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-xda-developer-tv/ Remember, your S3 will be the International version, not Verizon, AT&T etc. If you are interested in installing a custom ROM then have a look at this. http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-roms/how-to-install-custom-rom-on-rooted-galaxy-s3/ Any questions, give me a shout.

There's so much quality music to download from that blog. Some rare gems too. And it's all free. Tuck in.

Sounds good. I'll check it out. In the mean time, here's something you may like. http://90something.blogspot.co.uk/

I have rooted my S3 and have been experimenting with various custom ROMs. So far I have tried out CyanogenMod 10 (nightlies), WannamLite, Omega and Resurrection Remix. Both WannamLite and Omega are pretty similar to stock Samsung but with bloatware removed. CM10 and RR are excellent. The latter is probably my favourite so far, it is so ridiculously customisable. Has anyone got any recommendations for custom ROMs?

Ian Neal - All in the Golden Afternoon I don't know if any of you like prog-rock, but the above album sits quite comfortably at the 'feelgood' end of the prog spectrum. It's only mildly pretentious and is really rather good in a warm, tummy-rubbing kind of way. You can listen to the whole album (and his more recent effort) at his website http://www.ianneal.com/ I recommend 'Kingdom of the Birds' http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLOtPYcZI8A

Assuming that you have upgraded to Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, then you aren't going to be using a car dock for a while. Samsung have disabled the dock feature in the S3 4.1.1 JB update. A dock that previously worked with ICS no longer works with 4.1.1 JB, with both the charging function, and the audio out features totally knackered. The general assumption is that this is some kind of balls up on their part. Initially they just kept quiet about it but since they started to receive quite a few complaints about it, they have now admitted the problem and are promising a fix. This will more than likely arrive in the form of a firmware update, presumably 4.1.2. Users in the US are reporting that Sprint variant is arriving with the dock issue rectified. However, there is no confirmed date for UK users to receive a fix. There is a way around this issue but it's far from perfect. I have rooted my S3 and flashed the latest Siyah kernel; this fixes the charging issue and the audio out will function perfectly. However the in-call microphone does NOT work. You can still use S voice to control the usual functions but during calls the other party can't hear you. Here's the full story at XDA http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1879633 Rooting your phone and installing custom ROMs and kernels will invalidate your warranty with Samsung so it's not advised unless you're confident to do that kind of thing. If you're a happy tinker man then I recommend the Siyah kernel, not only does it fix 80% of the dock issues, but it also let's you dual-boot into your choice of ROMs. I've been running the stock Samsung as my primary ROM and Cyanogenmod 10 (nightlies) as my secondary. CM10 is so ridiculously customisable, and a fair bit faster than stock. If you are going to use your S3 as your main music device I would recommend spending a few extra quid and getting a 64GB micro SD card around £40 on Amazon here, http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007JTKM30/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00 I have stupid amount of music on mine, plus some movies and the entire first series of The Wire and I've still got 10GB of space left. If you're looking at music apps then Poweramp is fantastic. You can trial it for free for two weeks to see if it suits your needs. I paid for the full version and haven't regretted my decision. That said, don't overlook the Samsung music app. It's not in the same league as Poweramp but it's free and it's voice controlled (play, pause, previous, next, volume up, volume down). My kids find it most amusing to switch tracks when I'm in the head nod zone.
