  1. Cork's goal.
  2. Has any song suggested on this forum ever caught on?
  3. Perhaps the Shane Long enquiry is a clever ruse to flush out Hernandez...?
  4. http://I have [urli]cX can io[/url]
  5. This thread has gold potential.
  6. Room for about 32,000 more.
  7. Five years or so from now, the European Super League will be a reality. United, City, Chelski, Liverpool & Arsenal will be playing the likes of Real, Barcelona, Bayern, PSG etc week in, week out. The EPL will be at the same level as the SPL is now. All the Sky money will go to the Super League clubs and the EPL money will dry up. We will more than likely be a top 4 EPL side, as the money we get from selling our academy products will not only sustain us, but will give us an advantage over the other EPL teams. All IMHO, of course.
  8. Here's my radical plan. I'm going to go to football matches with my mates. I'm going to get drunk and have a laugh hurling abuse at the officials, opposition fans and players.
  9. I thought there had been some serious transfer news when I saw how many new posts had appeared. But no. Just a bunch of sad old men reminiscing about who they used to knock one out over. FFS.
  10. Sky sports breaking news..... QPR sign defender Steven Caulker from Cardiff.
  11. It's one half of a double album. This half is like inter-dimensional alien abstract hip hop. The other album features a host of rappers (Kool Keith, Del the Funky Homosapien etc) rhyming over Qbert Thud Rumble madness. All good.
  12. DJ Qbert - Extraterrestria Astounding stuff! Reminds me of a DMT trip. Whole album here..... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fGcl2T2LVEs
  13. I believe the intention is to build a VIP hospitality area for Brendan Rogers and his entourage.
  14. If he was to pull a stunt like this at Liverpool, I'm sure his family would receive a visit from some chaps with shot guns wearing shell suits and balaclavas. I think we've all been rather civilised about the whole sorry episode. F*** him.
  15. Message in the Music - The Ashley Beedle re-edits. This is a fabulous double CD, and you'll be hard pushed to find a better release this year. As a simple compilation album this would be a winner, the selections are first rate. But each track has been worked on by the master of re-edits to bring out the best in each tune. There are no duff tracks and no fillers. Stand out tracks for me include Ruth Copeland's cover of the Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter, which has become a 9 minute psychedelic masterpiece, Railroad Man by Bill Withers, Cymande's For Baby Ooh and Whatcha Gonna Do by Heaven n Hell. I have always been a fan of 60s prog / psych band Family (their first two albums are essential) so I was blown away by Ashley's treatment of Burlesque; he has teased out the drums and bass to create something that borders on obesity, it's so fat. And Roger Chapman's vocal.... Here's a taster from YouTube, Burlesque by Family for the prog-rock-funk heads.
  16. This forum really needs a 'like' button.
  17. High Skies - 'Sounds of Earth'.
  18. Boards of Canada - 'Tomorrow's Harvest'. Well it's great isn't it. More like the first album than any of the subsequent albums. And that's a good thing in my opinion. They have a sound unlike anyone else; with a beguiling warmth that sits so well with those chubby beats. When I listen to it I'm reminded of those 1970s 'futuristic' scientific research / corporate puff films that were mimicked by the Dharma Initiative in the TV series Lost. One wonders if those two Scottish lads were abducted in the 1970s by some kind of benevolent, analogue synthesis-based alien life forms.....
  19. I never thought I'd see a thread like this on SWF. This happens to be my "thing". I started DJing when the acid house scene kicked off, and moved through the various mutations of house music. However, I tired of house years ago and began hunting out all those classic dance tunes that producers used to sample. I started broadening my horizons in to funk and jazz funk a few years ago. Some great suggestions so far. Dinger has come up with some corkers (Zapp & Roger - good call!) Also check out 'I can make you dance' by the same guys. Then check out the tragic story of the Troutman brothers Good tunes from Hamilton Saint too, however I would suggest 'Could You Be Loved' as the danceable Marley tune of choice (more uptempo) and THE Blockheads tune to dance to is 'Reasons to be Cheerful'. So here are a few of my own suggestions of classic dance tunes. Jimmy Castor Bunch - It's Just Begun (currently being used to sell Bulmers cider) D Train - Keep On Exodus - Together Forever Donald Byrd - Change (Makes Me Wanna Hustle) Wish & Fonda Rae - Touch Me Class Action - Weekend (or the version by Phreek) Brooklyn Express - Sixty Nine NYC Peech Boys - Don't make me Wait Loleatta Holloway - Love Sensation The Police - Voices Inside My Head Archie Bell & the Drells - Where Will You Go When the Party's Over (Tom Moulton mix) Bataan - The Bottle First Choice - Dr Love (Tom Moulton mix) Instant Funk - I Got My Mind made Up (Larry Levan 12" mix) Salsoul Orchestra - You're Just the Right Size The Clash - The Magnificent Dance None of these are particularly unknown or obscure, they're all just solid dance tunes. How long are you going to be playing for? That should be ample to make up a great one to two hour set. You mention wanting to play across many different genres etc but that is incredibly difficult to do in a way that maintains continuity and fluidity. It sounds like a great idea in your head but not many DJs would have the confidence and ability to pull it off. You could quite easily end up sounding like a bad DJ at a lame school disco. Lengthy beat mixing will be nigh on impossible due to many of these tunes having drummers and not drum machines. Will you be mixing or playing like David Mancuso? The tunes I've listed are all pretty much 70s / early 80s dance classics (think Paradise Garage etc) You'll have to trawl through YouTube yourself to check them out, I'm far too lazy. Interested to know if you will be using CDJs or Traktor etc because getting these tunes on vinyl will cost you a fortune - The Exodus 12" alone (on the original Charlotte Amalie label) will cost over £100 in mint condition. Most should be available on various CD compilations, but even that will cost a bit. I hope you're being well paid. Give me a shout if you want more suggestions or want to seriously venture into funk etc.
  20. Another Boards of Canada diversion....... DJ Food has edited 'Reach for the Dead' into a 10 minute version. He did this for "purely selfish reasons - because it's so incredible and way too short". You can hear it here https://soundcloud.com/strictly/boc-rftd-djfood-10min, but be quick, it could disappear soon and without warning.
  21. I believe that mix is part of a new forthcoming live show. Gotta be worth seeing live if they're playing anywhere local. Here's another older Hexstatic AV mix: http://vimeo.com/30103637 In the mean time, if you like that kind of stuff then check out the Solid Steel Vimeo feed. There's some really clever stuff in there. http://vimeo.com/solidsteel/videos For the full tilt immersive AV experience, try DJ Food's Dome Club event at Birmingham Dome. It's not on for much longer and it's pretty unique. http://www.thinktank.ac/page.asp?section=968
  22. Hi LV, hope you're well. BoC usually come up with the goods.
  23. And here's a one hour AV mix from Mr Armtone.
