Even with SJ gone I thibnk we have the players to keep us up. BUT Good teams are built on solid defence. If only JP would pick the same, best back 4 week after week we would have a chance. I fear the only way is down, because we will continue to leak goals, and either Donny or forest will pick up.

hate to agree with a skate, but I agree. The Smiths was a lousy name IMO, but they managed very nicely anyway. Sweet and tender hooligan was a good one.

With this defence we are doomed. Which is what I have written time after time this season. Cork Wotton Perry skacel(or maybe mills) would give us at least a chance. James and Lancashire are costing us game after game. There is room for perhaps one youngster at the back. Lowe is running things, I suspect. you simply cannot do well with a hopeless defence.

What I don't get is that I heard "an expert" say that the government money being injected would have to be borrowed!!!!!!!!!!!! From who?

the secret (and its not a secret) to good defence is: Stability. you really don't need world beaters, just roughly the same competent back four week in, week out. so: Cork Perry wotton Skacel picked every week might very well quickly develop into a decent t back four(especially if they get adequate cover- NO defnce can cope if left exposed). As an example the amazing Arsenal back four of Dixon Bould Adams Winterburn. At that level only one exceptional player IMO, but they were a superb outfit, and none of them ever seemed to miss a game.

all very simple. With a defence this poor, it reallly wouldn't matter if we had Chelseas's front 6 we would still struggle in a lot of games. IF we ever get a half decent back 4 we will do OK, (not that doing OK in the CCC is anything special!). IMO a back 4 of Skacel Wotton Perry Cork played every week might soon gell into something reconisable as a defence, at least perhaps average for this division.

Why would a teenager pay £20 (or almost £20) to watch CCC footy unless they were a die hard?

its not just stay aways though. I strongly suspect that lots of people are just going less often. There are lots of people who like going to see the Saints, but aren't prepared, at the moment to go week in, week out, especially in the uncertain financial climate. Teens £10 2 games for £30. 3 games for £50 might work.

the clubs that get big crowds in the CCC sell lots of STs, usually with low entry point prices. As another comparison, palace got 16000 for the Charlton game last night, a very poor turnpout for a local fixture, so its not only us. The club will HAVE to either 1. Do much better match by match deals or 2. Sell lots of Sts to get crowds up.. They really haven't tried hard to do either IMO.

yup, and Saints should have forseen this. Saturdays crowd will be well above Weds- So they should have sold both games for, say. £30, and got a bit of extra cash in.

6 games is , in general, a good guide to where we are. Where we are is a team witha a very suspect defence,that plays some lovely football, and that bdoesn't score enough goals. If defence gets sorted, we will be Ok. If not....................

Until we get it right in defence we are in trouble. Love the attacking style, but we HAVE to have a solid back 4 and some presence up front or we are doomed.
