  1. we would improve going forward a huge amount if we could get the ball to Lallana a bit more often....
  2. seen some great players. probably the best players I have seen playing against Saints were Best and Gullit, although neither were particularly outstanding on the days I saw them. Also right out of the top draw....Beckham. however, two of the best performances I saw against Saints were by John Barnes (maybe the first time he played for Liverpool at the Dell), and David Ginola(playing for Newcastle?) We just couldn't get near either of them.
  3. quite. its more than possible to house, feed and provide a decent standard of living for everybody without stripping the planet of all its resources. UK per Capita GDP is around £35000. if you allow 40% for govt spending that still leaves £20k PER PERSON.......but as this wealth/income is distributed the way the rich want,(top 10 % have over 30% of the income) it means that many people are scrabbling around or working stupid hours just to live.
  4. can we go back into administration and sign 3 PL players please?
  5. Coupla things. 1. agree with Franny, the EU should certainly be joining in on the housekeeping front. 2. Nuclear weapons. IF we need them, I am (very) reliably informed that warheads can be fitted to an exocet missile, and that these can now go half way round the world. Bit cheaper, and every bit as scary as trident. 3. Threatening other countries with nuclear destruction isn't a really good way to go on anyway. 4.Allowing people like phillip Greene anywhere near governmanet is a disaster. Have you BEEN to BHS? 5.Funny how we have money for big projects like nuclear power stations, but pathetically nonexistent investment in proven small scale solutions like solar panels. 6The NHS is being privatised by the back door....just watch american healthcare companies come in and buy up, or take over the management of the new huge budgets that the GPs will have. 7. The tories really hate real businesses that actually make stuff....you know, steel, cars, coal. Unless they are chinese of course. 8. ALL politicians are brilliant at spending our money 9. Unless the lib dems do something amazing, and quickly, most people who previously voted for them never will do so again. 10.They tories want higher education for the few, like the old days.Sadly for them, they will have to pay to keep the oiks out, but it will be worth it.And they can get rid of those horrible new universities which help ordinary people get skills and improve their thought processes.... 11. This country can easily afford quality higher education...but thats no way for the rich and powerful to stay that way, is it? 12. Vince cable is the biggest disappointment since Kleber Chala. And don't get me started on Scotland........................
  6. seriously though, for a moment, if you cannot see why people (Saints fans and others) are outraged at a club(business) in administration buying million pound players , and paying £1m PA wages to individual players, your world view must be very odd indeed. Remember, administration is for failed businesses, and is supposed to be in the interests of the creditors. And remember, Saints fulfilled the terms of their administration, not least by only selling players before the new buyer came in.
  7. if your oldest is 13, my advice is "Quit while you are ahead". Oh and if you want a school to educate your child trust neither the child nor the school !!
  8. it surprises me how little other championship owners have had to say about the whole thing. By rights, in administration, and with the parachute payments spoken for, poopey should be nailed on for one of the relegation slots. But here they are playing fantasy football, buying million pound players and spending cash they really don't seem to have.in the process building a pretty handy squad. I think the Doncaster Chairman might have spoken up, but no one else seems to have......but I bet most champo teams (never mind the ones at the bottom) would love to have the two stoke players to call on. it may be that at this stage of the season none of them want to be seen as relegation candidates...
  9. this is all a great example of "Create the problem, and then find the solution you like". We could afford all sorts of desireable things, (like subsidised universities) if we wanted to. But those in power don't want to. Those at the top will be able to buy their prized places at top uni's, everybody else will be scrabbling around for scraps....and I reckon at least 30 unis will close or return to vocational courses only. And Oxbridge etc will still be cheaper than Eton and Winchester. Tory governments mean a country run by the rich, for the rich. Thats the whole point.

    I hate

old stuff is making a big comeback under the tories. University only for the Rich. Benefits only for the deserving poor(workhouses can't be far behind). military power enough to take on half the world(or Trident renewal as they call it). Country run by Old Etonians and bankers who nearly bankrupted us. Still ,look on the bright side, at this rate labour will be elected with a landslide in 5 years time, because the government will have upset everybody except the top 10/20%.
  11. early cure albums (after Three imaginary boys) may be like self harm, but they are good at it. "pornography" is still an astonishing album, but the band should have knocked it on the head after that.
  12. some of them presumably cannot work out the difference between "cup Final " and "more attractive fixture than Tranmere (a week after another home fixture.)" they ought to enjoy their success......while it lasts. like all football fans.
  13. Guly was brilliant. BBC site has posession as 53% Saints, 47 % Tranmere........ would love to know how THAt was calculated !!
  14. If Saints want to recruit the best players in L1, on the best pay, they should expect the highest standards on and off the pitch. given the general drinking culture in English football, I would say that such standards might include drinking on a Saturday night. They wouldn't really include being out drinking in known trouble spots at 3 AM.In my opinion. Professional athletes on top money, Ought to come with some responsibilites really. certainly not judging LB, but he has already let the club(and the paying customers) down once this season with the sending off.
  15. tHis is quite interesting . http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abiogenic_petroleum_origin Much beloved of new world Order believers, but interesting anyway.
  16. Lowest for a league match that I can remember was the Ipswich league game that we lost 1-0, Kiwomya got the goal and it rained like the monsoon season. Late 1993 . Official crowd 9000 but the Milton was deserted apart from the bits under cover.I thought there were only about 7500 there, as no doubt a lot of ST holders stayed at home. not our best night.
  17. One thing he tried to do, (but clearly failed) was to support the idea of the Phoenix league, (or pL 2). i give credit to him for realising that, however well run a "middling" PL club is, the day of relegation inevitably dawns, sooner or later.he realised, I think, that the financial gulf between the pL and thChamp is far too big for businesses to plan properly, and in fact that there are probably around 30 clubs in the country that can regard themselves as "potential" PL clubs. In my view, with less fear of relegation from the PL, clubs could be better run, players wages brought under control, and maybe even ticket prices reduced. And we might have a pL full of proper clubs (Saints, Leeds, SheffWeds , forest) with 30k gates not bloody micky mouse clubs with 10k gates living on murdochs millions.
  18. come back St Landrew. Not "merely a man", but a voice of sanity round here.
  19. bigger turnout than 4 PL games bigger than any in the champ, I think Bout 4 th highest in the country today. Decent, really.
  20. looking at the table tonight, the points to get promotion or into the playoffs this season look like they might be a bit more "normal" than last season. Play off teams at 1,6 per game, and peterborough in secon under 2 per game (just) so far.
  21. don't go.......us XTC fans need to stick together. plus the voice of sanity is a rare thing round here !!
  22. 4 points from 2 away games is still a good return. disappointing to lose a lead to a bottom half team...but that sort of thing happens in football, and 2 points a game will do us fine. whats more, our defensive record is good for a team not winning that many...will stand us in good stead when the front 6 start firing....hopefully !!

    Guly

if he turns out to be good, we might do worse than use lambo/guly/lallana in a 3, similar to the Dowie/MLT /Eckelund combo.(with LB being a quality option) Punch/Hammond/MS would be a competitive midfield 3.
  24. a bit of patience would help Adkins and the team. 5 points from 1 home and 2 away games is actually close to promotion form. It has been a really disappointing start, but there is plenty to play for. Getting either Lallana fit or Lambert in form would make a huge difference. Pretty worried about saturday though.........
  25. proper football back then ! Remember us beating dirty leeds 2-1 at the Dell around that time, (was it later in the season of the 7-0 drubbing ?), and feeling like we had won the league !! and what a team. Even our more skillful players knew how to look after themselves. Never a dull moment in the early 7o's.
