  1. We are not going to get promoted playing champagne football for 90 minutes and thrashing everybody. if we go up, it will be by keeping solid at the back, having enough firepower to win whether we score early or late, and by everybody, players and fans, sticking together through a really tough 13 games. Most teams we play will also have something to play for...we will scratch some wins, have the odd break, have a down when we lose or draw a game we "should" win. lets hope that the team have plenty of bottle, and are keeping their best form for the last 10 games when its all decided. There are one or two high profile people on this forum who seem to have an agenda.....
  2. I agree about crouch. Should have been given a corporate box for life for the way he put his money where his mouth was. He was the only one. A true Saint.
  3. so, as I see it... we keep at it, and try to win every game. With even a modicum of luck we keep right up there, and then we cheer the lads on through a great run of wins in the last 6 games to clinch 2nd place. And we can maybe even convince bha that we are repaying them for stitching them up in 1978. (Something that they would have done if it had been the other way round. Mind you , I still am still amazed at Tony Funnells skill in deliberately hitting the post, but thats another story !!)
  4. long term we have been doing 2 per game...with 7 home and 7 away we ought to carry on doing that. Bournemouth and peterborough have only 5 each at home, and have to play each other.you are right, its in our hands.
  5. peterborough also only have 5 left at home....
  6. we have also now got over our away games deficit....and bompey only have 5 home games left, which is good. Keep up the 2 points a game, and we will do it !!
  7. Have thought for a long time that it should be more heavily weighted to the third place team. I really don't know why this cant be...you could devise a simple system , like the OP, that would make almost as much money, and be much fairer.
  8. its not hard for ince to go up in my estimation..but he's done it in style. Actually interesting what he says about Italy....we have much to learn from them in terms of how to get the best out of players.
  9. quite . Most of us do this stuff to get away from the slog of real life. All I want at the moment football wise, is for us to be up against our "equals"....derby, ipswich, cov, forest etc.not that much to ask. Excuse me if i am pretty fed up as our multi million pound team screws up at hartlepool and walsallwith Average crowds well under 5k. And genuinley, no dispespect to them.
  10. that is the most disappointed i have been with a result in a very long time....which is quite something given the events of the last few years. however, we have been well out of form...and if you look back, the goals are drying up. Too many games where we fail to score, covered up by beating swindon, who must have the worst back 4 in the solar system. do we have the bottle to match a buoyant bompey, who are on a 2 year roll, and battle hardened huddersfield.......very worried tonight.
  11. as ever, the people at the top are fine, and keeping more and more of everything for themselves, leaving the bottom 90% to fight, (maybe literally before too long) over the scraps. we must be mad to put up with these parasites owning and running our world........
  12. at the moment we are clearly below our best, but we are picking up points at a rate that would see us go up, probably in second. The time you really don't need to lose form is in the last 10 games.. I am cautiously optimistic that we can claim second, but we do need to pick up some real form. Using Barney and MS more should help.....
  13. if someone had asked Adkins 8 games ago, with 6 of the 8 being away, if he would take 15 points, he would have been mad to turn it down.
  14. if we get 2.1 points per game NA will have done his job. If we get 90 points he will have done his job. If we get promoted he will have done his job. If we get 85 and don't go up he will have failed, despite the poor start he inherited.
  15. i have been there, although I'm not really a klier. I would say its pretty good for a family holiday. Tuition would be good, pretty much guaranteed skiing, and an attractive resort. Lots of that strong dark rum to keep the chill out helps !! THeres a big posh hotel at the heart of the resort, can't remember the name, but although too expensive to stay in, did great food at decent prices. Good choice.
  16. Nigel Clough scored a dream goal for forest at the Milton road end. seemed to run through the whole team, round the keeper, and rolled it into the net. Just stood there with his arms in the air, and you could hardly blame him.Celebrated in very clough like, gentlemanly style. Class. Certainly my favourite.
  17. WAY back when, in the late 70's the format was different again. As i recall, for midweek matches, there would be reports during whatever show happened to be on. As I recall, but I could be wrong, there was a HT and full time report , and maybe for a goal. One of the good things was that it was often a rock show with Gethyn Jones, which was quite good, not least since this was still in the days when R1closed down between 7.30 and 10 pM, when John Peel was allowed to play for a couple of hours, so Solent provided some much needed music.
  18. I am told that Batley V Hunslet is pretty tasty.... but Rangers Celtic is the one i would love to see.
  19. i really wish that he was the worst player we ever had..but he wasn't. And he was pretty decent in MF.
  20. good question.. but as they scored in the 92 nd minute, its not reaally an issue. 3 or 4 mins would have been right.
  21. also, we have now pretty much got through our backlog of away games, now only one fewer than at home. Still all to play for......
  22. in the cold light of day, this will be a difficult away game out of the way with no real damage done. Lets just hope we can keep scoring. But its all too clear that we have defensive frailties.Far too many silly freekicks conceded. Big run of wins neede from some very winnable fixtures coming up...
  23. if some of the rich people and ex players who claim to love the club had shown as much loyalty to the club as Nick over the years, we might not have suffered the indignities of the last couple of years. He is a true Saint.
  24. did you see them at charlton on the telly?
