Rochdale 2 - 0 Southampton - Post Match Reaction
teamsaint replied to Saint_clark's topic in The Saints
on the upside..we would have settled for where we are now at almost any point this season. on the down side, we are clearly a team carrying knocks everywhere..badly need to beat rovers and get a week of recovery time. Away defeats are part of football..the results, if not the performances , of the last 10 games are just fine. all WE can do is turn out in big numbers on Sat and give the team huge support. -
people who are complaining about the standard of play might reflect on the thought thatr in fact there was the best part of an hour today when we were comfortably the better team. There was only one section of the game when mK were better, the last 10(including fergie time). MK were perhaps a little fortunate to be 2 up having created very little real threat. to come from 2 down to beat a really decent side reflects well on a lot of strengths that we DO have. and i have to say that 5 mins fergie time was bonkers.

at the time the 2-1 win over leeds at home in 1973(?) seemes quite amazing to me. Never enjoyed a game more than the 3-2 win over liverpool in 1979.

wasnt the green shield stamp place down there ?
-
so what happened to the farton end after the rebuild then?

I wasn't at the game, but i do know that Tony Funnell hit the post. which is a pretty tidy skill if you are trying to not score !! not only that, we could have been champions if we had won. Now the game may have petered ort to a draw, and it may have suited both teams to get a draw, but the intention was not there from the start, of that I am sure. Anyway let bha have their hour of triumph over us. They will have plenty else to keep them out of mischief next season..hopefully we will be there, maybe we will be the first team to win at the spandex or whatever its called. Oh, and just in the cause of balance, bha have plenty of potential to be a big player...back in the 70's they regularly got crowds around 20k at the goldstone..and the atmos in the covered end was pretty good too.It would be nice though, if, after their pretty rubbish years of exile etc, they could win the league with good grace. I do recall the Spurs came was tedious but what else would you expect? I could be wrong but did we not hit the woodwork in that game ? In any event it is utter nonsense though to be fair I believe most reasonable Brighton fans realise this.

What would you rather have - 3 games in hand or 5 extra points?
teamsaint replied to kpturner's topic in The Saints
another way of looking at it is to say, if we were offered the chance of automatic promotion if we get 5 from our last 3 games, would we take it? I would. But we still have to get the points. -
last season Millwall had 65 points with 10 games to go. THey picked up 20 points but They missed out on automatic promotion by one point... but with 10 to go leeds already had 71 points. In the last 10 games of last season charlton picked up 18 points to finish on 84. Hudds picked up 22 to finish on 80(and were safe in the play offs before losing their last game) swindon picked up 16 to finish on 81 all of which proves that of the top few teams ,someone will have an outstanding run in the last 10 games, and most will pick up their seasons average. as posh have just had a great run, and hudds are unbeaten in 18, lets hope its us that has the great run in the last 10.
-
our last 3 lots of 10 games I think went like this: last 10: W6 D3 L1 previous :10 W6 D2 L2 10 before that: W6 D2 L2. that sort of points haul would give us a great chance, but 7 wins would surely be good enough?

i would rather be in our position than Hudds...especially as they only have 3 left at home. We need to get 20 points to go up in any case so 5 from 3 is just something we need to do. -
Saints sign 21 year old Dale Stephens on loan - official

so that he can complain about it not being in the right place? -
I reckon fergie would bite your hand off for 22 points from 4 homes and 5 aways. So assuming that we dont slip too much on GD, 22 would do us. 4 wins and a draw at home, 3 wins 2 defeats away. Easy if you say it quickly. Hudds will carry on picking up points, but they won't get to 85.
-
quite. from walsall Charlton colchester and bompey away, 7 points is promotion form. 4 points from sheff weds home and charlton away is promotion form. After 7 games this season, we would have happily taken the position we are in now. sometimes in football you get lucky sometimes you get unlucky.
-
quite possibly some of the bestest brass noise in the history of ever.
-
one little thing about the crowd...it would be nice to see the folks in the Itchen Centre stay around long enough to clap the team off the pitch when they have won a big game. I know there are a lot of corporates round there but still....
-
I agree with most of what you say..but in fact if we had made anything like a decent start to the season,(12-14 points from the first 7 games)automatic promotion would be looking comfortably within our grasp, and we would have been on track for a more than respectable 90 points.

hudds score

If Surman is't good enough for Saints, I would sure like to see the players that are !! he was superb tonight, as he was for us.
-
but we do have to worry, because if governments tax these parasite too much they will leave for another country. And that is a very bad thing because, like rupert lowe, they are irreplaceable.
-
well, you deserve credit for being a Saint in gosport anyway!
-
funny game football. I mean, with our players and resources we should be tearing up league 1, and playing football like Arsenal. Thats it,, we need to try to play the arsenal way. if only we could have beat barca, and then ....OH. If NA gets us promoted, he has done his job, if not, he's failed. All WE can do is give him and the team 100% backing.
-
frankly mosy of us just want promotion by any honest means. And we DO play some attractive football. both the first two goals against Yeovil were well worth waiting for, even if some of the other stuff was ordinary. Keep up the current results and we will be happy enough come May.
-
poopey should be docked points for cotterills interviews on solent.. last night...unbelievable.
-
i may have expressed that badly. We are not going to play champagne football for 90 mins every game and thrash everybody. To get promoted will require doing a bit of that, but in the main by grinding out results in some tough matches..keeping clean sheets, and nicking the odd game at the end. look how many games manure win late on. Thats football. Its going to be a bumpy ride, but we might just get there.
