  1. we are leaking too many goals . Have to get more clean sheets to get promotion.
  2. even teams that have a promotion season lose around 8 games...usually away, usually against the better teams. disappointing but not the end of the world.
  3. last time we were promoted from this league, we drew at burnley. spooky.
  4. we have 7 points from 4 aways, and rescued something from a tough away game. We will have worse days. And we are top of the table. Happy.
  5. leon is the one who deserves freebies if anybody does...
  6. he was also superb after his return from injury towards the end of last season.
  7. I don't know(or care really) if sheff utd are planning a new stadium, but Bramall lane is pretty much for for purpose up to and including PL level. As is Hillsborough. Actually, so is farton, given attendances at the wrong end of the M27, come to think about it. Oh, and as for split support base, well that is cleary true in Sheffield, but both teams are still better supported than most in the country.
  8. Rickie Lambert....a deep lying centre forward that Don Revie would have been proud of. Which is a big compliment.
  9. its all pretty simple. We averaged around 30 k in the PL.# ALL teams drop 25 % in the championship after relegation from the PL. our average of 23500 in the playoff season is thus about what you would expect. Our attendances for some games will suffer because the club didn't sell STs hard. There is a recession on, football iS an expensive way to spend an afternoon.(wouldn't be surprised if there are plenty of fans who are choosing 1 game per month ATM) so 22500 on a rainy sunday afternoon with 800 away fans is really a fair enough turn out. Comparison, wHU, who usually average a bit more than us, got 25000 for Cardiff for the first game of the season. And as for this "missing fans thing ".....when the really big games come around , all the regulars want a ticket. So, for example, those people who go to half the games in a season all want a ticket....thus explaining the upsurge. I bet there are at least 30K fans who attend SMS regularly...whether that is every game, half the games, or 4 games a season.
  10. AL mentioned this in his interview on solent...and its exactly the sort of thing we need to sharpen up on. We are playing amazing stuff.....and Deano is playing such a big part. if we can get the defensive side spot on, could be a great season.
  11. good to see hudders doing well. hope they go up.
  12. its the people who don't think that western governmemts will sacrifice their own people who need to think again. WW1, Vietnam, are two pretty good examples of this. Who benefits from our endless wars?
  13. so, those who don't care about this stuff are prepared to pay whatever is asked for a service, however good or bad the service, and won't question additional rises and fees, whatever happens? Personally, even with the Saints, the team I have followed through thick and thin for over 40 years, (including around 20 years almost never missing a home game) there comes a point where I stop paying. A £3 admin charge for a football ticket is too much IMO. Won't stop me buying yet, but it doesn't help. and if we get back the the PL...??tickets at £40+? someone else can pay that, because I won't, at least not very often. Shame, but there it is.
  14. dont believe what journalists write..believe in what you think for yourself. From that list you could build a very decent PL team, maybe lacking a bit in class up front.
  15. kids rack up huge uni debts, and can't get jobs, while the over 60's are forced to work on and on. I think there might just be a control agenda here....or maybe the government has loads of good ideas that I just don't understand !! What a crazy world.
  16. Adkins really earned his money today, changed the game when forest were in control. hammond completely bossed the right hand side when he moved out wide, a superb display by him all day.He may not be the most skillful, but he sure knows what needs doing on a football pitch. Chappers made a big difference also. As for Rickie, the sort of centre forward that Don Revie would have loved...and thats a compliment by the way !! Nige does have defensive issues though.. getting back to a stable back four is the first thing.. the best defences are based on stability and teamwork.
  17. both times I saw Siouxsie and the Banshees consisted of 1 hour, 1 single encore, and thats your lot. Good stuff, but really didn't put a huge effort in. musically, probably Echo and The Bunnymen, at hammersmith Odeon, in their heyday. mind you, the odeon was good for making bands seem rubbish. as someone else said, its nearly impossible in a big arena, my only time seeing the Jam was at Wembley arena..was a good night, but against the odds really. and as for venues, Earls court really is the pits.genuinely like a bus depot.
  18. won't be taxed if we are running at a loss.
  19. i agree. It really is a bad idea, in general, for football clubs to buy players at the top of the market. At £5 m plus, Maynard is a big gamble...might pay off, might be very expensive. As people have said, its a team game, we look full of goals, and the loan window reopens shortly. Its really important to keep team spirit by not breaking the wage structure. if NC doesnt want to "do a Leicester", then fair play. this is a really tough year at the top of the nPC(much tougher than last year). A longer game may be whats needed.
  20. family section at poopey is £25. Kids do have to pay though. god knows why.
  21. and all this "sitting at the top table" does what exactly? feeds politicians egos? This country needs to grow up. we need to stop arming ourselves and the rest of the world, and start building houses , transport infrastructure, feeding ourselves properly, and setting an example rather than threatening other countries with destruction. believe the politicians, bankers, gun runners(manufacturers) and drug barons if you want. Or you can choose to look for a way forward.
  22. I guess what happens is that they discus overtime rates. maybe they discussed millwall, had a look at the map,saw that its near the financial sector in docklands, and decided that a team supported mostly by finance sector workers shouldn't be too much of a threat ! Who knows?hard to imagine worse thought out(?) tactics. Strikes me police like a problem to solve, rather than preventing a problem.
  23. pretty surprised that the official attendance figure of 23300 i guestimated it at perhaps just short of 25000.
  24. the 1978 thing did annoy them at the time....though of course if they had got more points they would indeed have got promoted !!
  25. absolutely. Dickson came here as a potential first teamer, and sat out most of the season because the team were performing so well. When we really needed him he came in and did a fantastic job, including a vital assist at orient, and a promotion clincher at plymouth. Just the sort of contribution that keeps a promotion drive going.
