  1. hereditary head of state? time this country grew up. no wonder the french despise us. the royals are a corrosive influence.
  2. Should. In theory and in practice. And they often don't. Have you heard of wholesale tax avoidance and evasion? Actually, now I think about it, the current economic model, based on the greed of those at the top, arms and oil and banking interests(all of whom want low taxes for the rich), is going rather well, isn't it. All we need to do is fix the collapsing currency, solve unemployment, deal with the deficits, keep the lid on inflation caused by giving money to the banks(QE) and then we can move on to helping the developing world. Doddle. I bet the lib dems can help. If it ain't broke.......!!
  3. Tax is best levied on a mix of income, spending and wealth. Our mix, in my very well thought out opinion(!!) is too much towards income , especially at the lower end of income, and not enough on wealth. All those wealth creators who are SO opposed to tax and SO in favour of the jobs they create, can easily avoid tax by reinvesting their profits in creating new jobs. Wealth tax percentage. Don't know. Very high for the rapacious bastards in the banks, and the aristocrats whose forbears stole the land . Lower elsewhere. rich people should pay a higher percentage than poorer people because that will make for a better world. Level taxes for all will lead, and are leading to increasingly unequal societies, and ALL the evidence is that the more unequal the society, the worse they work. The jealousy bit is a load of nonsense...its about making it all work.
  4. er, but corporation tax rates are at competitive levels, as are capital gains taxes on real businesses. The rich always find ways to screw the rest of us, and to convince us that they pay too much tax.
  5. I don't think they were. Big games, holiday games...ga,es like this sold out late , if at all.
  6. Adkins substitutions have won us match after match. Today, he may have made an error in his substitutions against one of the two best teams in the country. On reflection, I think we should forgive him, really !!
  7. After last week I felt that the acid test would be whether we could defend well against teams like wigan. If you can't defend in football, you are finished. For the life of me I can't understand how we have allowed ourselves to get to within a week of the window closing with no cover at CB, let alone improving in that department. Our defence last season was average for a promoted team......Jos and Fonte deserve a chance, but we are very vulnerable. As we found out in 2005/05, a bad start is hard to recover from......
  8. Enjoy...at PL prices you need all the entertainment value you can get to enhance your matchday experience !
  9. numpty maybe...but the option of when to take the -10 is open. While in admin they can spend the vast majority of their cash on players....
  10. every time i put solent on for sports news I hear some arse from poopey complaining about the need to be competitive. Never about the fact they are still in administration. Again. just very annoying.
  11. Saints home games in the PL , at SMS, just have NEVER sold out that quickly, if they sell out at all. In all the PL SMS years , I never had a ST, and I NEVER missed a home game that I wanted to buy for, and i went to perhaps 75% of games. (under the membership scheme of course). The only game that I recall selling out on the first morning was a home game against chelsea. Bit surprised at man u not selling out , though at £38, on the telly, and a recession etc, not that surprised.
  12. its clear to me that the key to our season will be how well we can defend against the bottom 14 or so teams...and especially at home.
  13. Suppose so. But as usual, other clubs can only look on as poor poopey outbid them with other peoples money.
  14. As far as I can see, poopey are in a decent position, for now at least. While in administration, all they have to do is cover outgoings....regular bills, the TB, and the rest, a decent amount by L1 standards , can go on a squad. They don't have to exit admin until it suits them. My guess....keep a decent squad going this season, get to 60 points around march, come out of admin under some new loony owner and take the 10 points this season if they are safe...penalty avoided, and promotion push next season paid for by everybody else. Neat. Wonder how Cov fans feel...bet they could use Howard.
  15. so poopey could play all of this season in L1, spending any money coming in on wages, and avoid the 10 point penalty.(and relegation to L2) They come out of admin next summer, and take the -10 at a time of their choosing. i bet the L1 clubs love this.
  16. it, or something that looks very like it. The bankers run the world.
  17. people need to be valued for, and properly rewarded for doing the ordinary jobs that keep society working. Employers need to value the health of their staff.
  18. the fans I despair of are the geniuses who have a go at other fans for the level of support that they show, like the utter half wits who had a go at the people in the Q when we were buying Donny tickets, so that we could go to the donny game, and NOT or the pompey tix it would have entitled us to. At £50 for a run of the mill, once a week football match, (you know, there is another one next week much the same), grounds SHOULD be half full at best. It is a LOT of money to some people, when job security is no existent.
  19. anybody know how quickly new purchase STs are being sent out? ordered one a couple of weeks ago , hasn't turned up yet.
  20. you go to PL football, you get ripped off. Sad but true. The only thing to do is take it on the chin, and make a sensible choice as to how to spend your money. Its pretty rubbish , though, if you have supported the club loyally through the bad times.
  21. so you can buy a ticket for Wigan, but you aren't actually guaranteed a Man u ticket, because ST holders could claim all the man u tickets before you get through to book one. Is that right?
  22. 1.It is irrelevant what the man u fan thought about the man u kit, though in fact he really hates it. I really don't like our new home kit either. 2. I really don't know what your definition of a fair weather fan is. Is more than 40 years, most home games good enough? All through the last 7 years? had a Season ticket for around half of that those 40 years ? I won't go on. but if we had more "fair weather fans like me we really WOULD need that huge stadium expansion !! In the time I was a ST holder , I always felt that non ST holders should have first go at available tickets for home league games, to those genuine, loyal fans who could,'t or wouldn't buy a ST. that avoids real plastics using their mates STs to jump the queue for the odd game they fancy. the old membership scheme worked pretty well in that regard. I hope this new system rewards people properly for their loyalty, especially those, for instance, who live up north, and find it hard to get to home games. The real fair weather fans are those who deserted 7 years ago, and there are plenty, and who have the last 7 years to save up for their PL ST.
  23. If that is the case a lot of people who have supported the club for a long time, will be mightily p****ed off. There is no good case at all for this, if in fact this is how it will operate. Although the club don't seem to care how the fans feel. Spoke to a manure fan to day who was amazed (in a bad way)at our new kit.
  24. So is the priority period for season ticket holders for all matches? Do they get first go at spare tickets for home league matches?
  25. This report is what used to be known as "Made up", or "A Lie".
