  1. well I agree with the " never " bit. Not really sure about all those years of depression. In my 40 plus years of watching Saints we have had some bad years, (1974/2005/2008/2009) and some pretty mediocre years, but we have had lots of good years, some great teams, apparently endless supply of great youth talent coming through. apart from perhaps being a cup or two light for a club of our size, reckon I have been pretty lucky being a Saints fan over the years. for comparison, Huddersfield haven't reached a quarter final in the cup or league cup since 1971/2 !!
  2. yup, at a vital moment in a crunch game.
  3. Hope they do the decent thing for you tomorrow, Doddsy. taking a young lad to his first game tomorrow. Last time I took new lads to their first game was the brilliant 3-2 win over stoke in the Championship, so hopefully a good omen. Plenty of footy fans have to pick and choose due to finances and other considerations.
  4. Now, I don't pretend to be a tactical genius. But it seems to me that what Liverpool need to get some better results is to get their better players, Sterling, lallana , and Sturridge when fit, as involved in the game as much as possible, and using their pace. The blindingly obvious way to do this is to get Ricky in the team, dropping deep, and setting up the plays, at which is is exceptional. Balotelli won't do that. He is a waste of a player in that team , right now. He will win you about one game in 10 with a bit of genius. Not a luxury they can afford right now.
  5. Since there seem to be one or two people on here who actually know about the subject, (which I don't) Ithought I would throw this into the discussion. A scottish category A building that must have been extraordinary in its hey day, and now...... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/St_Peter's_Seminary,_Cardross No real connection with Southampton, obviously. I imagine it will need new fire escapes if it ever gets used again.
  6. That is very, very funny indeed.
  7. Tough luck on that, VFTT. At least the result made up for it somewhat.
  8. like all the others they will give them tax breaks to stay.
  9. He really isn't an appalling footballer. He is a decent Championship striker. he is actually pretty dangerous with the ball at his feet facing goal, no so good with back to goal, leading the line. Leicester really are going to regret that £8m though.
  10. The tax payer paid. WHU got an amazing deal.
  11. round about when I started going. Would love to see some piccies of the Archers from around then.
  12. Hi , LBA. No, went on my own, got the train from Paris. I did meet a couple of Saints fans there, can't remember who, or how !! Well I do remember one of them, he was a bit..er..strange...or seemed so to me ! The Belgium game was so horrendous on the terraces, that for the one and only time I gave up on the football, and the much anticipated Italy game, and took an overnight train the next day to Hamburg, and interrailed for a while. Can't say I regret it either. reports were going round that an English fan had been shot the night before the Belgium game, and that one was unconscious after falling from the top tier during the game. Funny thing is, given the conversation we are having, the end we were in was sort of neutral, plenty of Italians along with the English, and just next to the few Belgians. make of that what you will folks!! (Anybody know where there is footage of that day online?)
  13. Actually, it isn't necessarily that easy to buy a "tourist ticket", as games where the away team sell out go to database only. Great response anyway. Frankly I got pig sick of stupid violent unpleasant behaviour at football matches over two decades. I was at the Stadio Communale for England v Belgium in 1980 in the thick of the tear gas, for instance, and anything that makes football less tribal, antagonistic, and dangerous is fine by me. Neutral zones just might help. That is my experience and opinion. Facepalm away if you must.
  14. no, we had Fulham fans right next to us. And there were plenty of others. I had a good time, and everybody else seemed to. Except the Fulham fan near us who walked out at 3-0. better idea, lets keep segregation, stop people from coming in to fill empty seats who want to pay good money to watch, and keep it nice and tribal. I have no issues with Liverpool fans.
  15. well quite. Enjoyed Fulham last year in the neutral section.
  16. All part of the new "ca plane......."
  17. Will it please the plastics?
  18. He or his agent seem to have been moaning ever since he got here.

    Guly

would he have needed, or got, a new work permit ?
  20. Avoiding the drop after losing this many key players would be an extraordinary achievement.
  21. Early on, really can't remember the game, I made a point of just watching him for about half an hour and pretty much ignoring everything else. (not relly difficult in those days !) Thing was, the game was simply passing him by. It was obvious that he had some ability, but needed to actually use it in the right way, to make a contribution. anyway, my personal low spot was the home defeat to Plymouth on 19/02/08. (Nige's first game?) Just a truly awful performance against another terrible team.
  22. bit of a difference between high profile ex player and bloke posting on fans forum, no?
  23. Players have been known to step up a level. Anybody think of same recent Saints examples? Nobody is saying Billy should start in the PL, just that , as he is on the books, he might be worth giving a chance during pre season.Sometimes pays off.
  24. how good do you think our 4/th/ 5th/6th choice strikers will actually be this season? Would love to think they will be a lot better than Mayuka and Billy, but not holding my breath on that.
  25. Its not impossible that somebody in the board rooms would view having 3 strikers on the books, for whom we paid fees and are paying at least some of the wages, as pretty bad business. No reason at all that Billy and Mayuka wouldn't make useful squad players.
