Middlesbrough IRONOPOLIS. Now there's a great name. Note to Cortese.......Southampton OCEANIA, Southampton LINEROPOLIS, Southampton GATEWAY TO THE EMPIRE not very pc......

There are a few games where you just know that you have been lucky to be there, even though you've been stuffed. For me the totally outstanding Gunter Netzer who ripped a great England side to pieces at Wembley back in 1972. (and best individual Saints performance definitely Peter Osgood at home against Marseilles in '77).

I so much prefer us playing towards the Northam in the second half normally.....................but where I think it goes wrong is when the opposition bring large numbers, and then they end up playing towards what effectively becomes their end, once the central Northam blocks are given over to the away team. I still wish Nicola had moved away support to the Chapel Kids Corner, whatever the Police views were.

Very clever marketing to time the release of the kit with the first England game of the World Cup when we're all thinking about football anyway. Nice one, whoever it was that made that decision, you've probably added a few hundred sales today through that simple move.

Realistic expectations that we will be Premier league again in three seasons, whereas for the past 20 years it has mostly been a case of, can we hang on to the rest. I'm happily clapping as well.

People say that infection with hookworm, generally caught when walking barefoot around latrines, is a cure all for hay fever and other allergies. http://www.kuro5hin.org/story/2006/4/30/91945/8971 I'm sticking to Clarityn nyself

Lots of changes in a few years! Had me thinking, I got an old 60's style leather football, laces and rubber badder etc, out of the shed the other week. Compare it today's version and it really is a 'different ball game' now. Anyone else remember the moment on a cold wet Winter's day when the ball would get lumped in and you had that micro-second of anticipation mixed with fear when you knew just what was coming with the old leather balls - like getting hit with a left hook. .........by the way TT, the Bromley postman finally turned up the other day with Ron's cartoon of Brian O'Neill for me.......pass on our thanks to Ron ..........ta of course for your involvement.....it will get pride of place in my Saints shrine above my Dell West stand seats and Le God photos. If anyone else is stuck for ideas for a present in the future get your orders into Ron, a real Saints legend.:supz:

So who's travelling the furthest for the Pompey game?

Another couple of us from the South London / Kent borders. Glad I looked at the tickets last night and finally noticed the 12:30 start.............I was planning to leave at around midday to park up in Woolston @ 2 pm. as usual. -
He had tons of self belief in the U18 team...........but was lost in the first team.......agreed might well be a good shout next year.

I fear it would be throwing money away........ a bit like the contributions we all made when Saints were in admin. A horrible reality when everyone was trying to do their best to do what was right; but did our donations then really help our club? Personally I hope they survive somehow as life really would never be the same without them. We need them like City need United, like Liverpool need Everton, like Rangers need Celtic, etc

Supporters Group Meeting at St Marys Today. Important News About the Future.
Gis replied to Son of Bob's topic in The Saints
I think the TV angles at the moment put everything in favour of visiting fans both visually and noiseways - tucking them away in the Kingsland/Chapel corner would be a very good move from this perspective. -
Remember lots of strategic crowd surges to get under the chocolate boxes, and the only covered ten square yards of the Milton, when it was raining
-
Nice club, massive crowds considering the size of the place...........there is something so wrong about football finances at the moment.

Didn't think I saw him warming up at half time..........I don't think I saw him warming up before the start of the match either, but might have missed him. All seems a bit strange to me. Did anyone see Connolly on the bench or is there something going on?
-
What are all the comments about putting Connolly on as a sub?.......he wasn't even on the bench was he?...........I presumed he was still injured

Lucky to get a point today, but a bit gutted we didn't take all three after scoring right at the end. Positives to come from the match are that Fonte is Claus reborn. Tall, skilful, commanding in the air or on the ground. Not so certain yet about Dan Seaborne who couldn't seem to win anything in the air during the first half, but looked a lot better in the second. Ostemebor didn't show too much; but I didn't get that nervous feeling I always have with James at right back - actually the pair seem to compliment each other well and I reckon they will form a good partnership on the right. Antonio was great in his cameo performance in the last few minutes and warmed us up again because in general the match was pretty dross. Don't expect to see a worse referee again this season - he missed so much, got so many blatant decisions wrong, and how we had two booked and none from Millwall I'll never understand.
-
Can't help thinking that Paul Hart (see above), might now be a useful target for the Academy - would imagine he is thoroughly disallusioned with management and might just want to do some 'grass roots' work for a year or so, whilst he gets his head back together. He did a great job at both Leeds and Forest.
-
On reflection; todays signing of Fonte, plus the prospect of Danns and others has cheered me up enormously.....roll on Millwall next Saturday

Great buy for us a big but mobile Centre Back, just what we needed The Saints TV interview impressed me, it sounded like he was here for the rest of his career to me. Loads of positive feedback about him from the Palace forums which is always a good sign. One comment I liked from the Holmesdale.Net site ' Ime palace til i die The Ghetto That Is Penge Today 1:14pm Gutted about this, genuinly gutted. Met him last year at the HF player of the year, which he won, and he was a top bloke. He had time for everyone, signed autographs until everyone who wanted one had one, chatted with anyone who wated to talk to him for ages and he even had a customary round of Sambuca at the bar. Great memories, but you do have to wonder whats going on on where selling arguably our best center back to a team in the division below and accepting it like its just a normal bit of news.

Mills and Thomson were 'stand outs' in their last year with the U18s, the same as Lallana and McGoldrick were, a year and a bit earlier. So maybe not that bad an analogy.
-
Fish can be a great little left back, he can tackle, and has the pace and skill to be a real threat when defence turns to attack. He's shown all of that at U18 level and now needs to make the big jump to first team level. But for now it's simple Harding is better so he will have to bide his time. There will be a time when he makes this position his own but Pardew obviously wants an experienced player there now. It's been great seeing Morgan, Lallana, and Lloyd James make stake their claims in the team this year. To be honest with us pushing for the play-offs -that's enough youngsters for now though.
