Rodriguez, how do we rate him after a year?
Suomi Saint replied to norwaysaint's topic in The Saints
Tends to snatch at his shots, and his heading technique leaves a lot to be desired. This coming season he should push on. If he doesn't then he probably never will. -
How far are we off a Top 6 place (fifth or sixth in all reality)?
Suomi Saint replied to notnowcato's topic in The Saints
A million miles. Next question. -
I tend to agree on this point.
-
Yep, that about sums it up.

I thought you were referring to Terry Paine! Pulis = a big no thanks.

This must be a wind up I'm sure. Still, it worked to a certain extent.

If you were there in 1976 then the answer is very clear. Also, the history books will always show that have you won something. Fourth place in the PL is not winning.....do we celebrate 2nd in the 80's? Anyway, the CL will probably be re-branded in future, as the Fairs Cup, UEFA Cup, Cup Winners Cup, and the European Cup were. Therefore, what's the point in celebrating qualification for the preliminary rounds of some competition whose name will change continuously over the next 50 years - one that we will never win. I would take the FA Cup and a sojourn into the Europa any day. Yes, Arsenal are embarrassing, and if I were an Arsenal fan I would question why the club disrespects the FA Cup as a competition. 50,000 Saints fans had a great day out for the JPT. Imagine the excitement for the real thing? I am a football fan and therefore I want to see my glorious team win something rather than make a few million quid which would be quickly spent in the pursuit of the unattainable. Leeds, Leeds, Leeds….

I wouldn't touch Sinclair with a bargepole as he would rather take the 'cash' than play football. Swansea and us are similar clubs who play similar football, and yet he preferred to swan off to Manchester because his dim-witted WAG preferred the nightlife up there. We only want 'hungry' players at Saints; good, honest, hardworking professionals who actually prefer kicking a ball rather than being photographed with an airhead.

Good point. This is how it works in Finland and it works well. We had the civil ceremony the day before our church blessing. Strangely, the Finnish Parliament oppose gay marriage, though.

I'm afraid I have to disagree. It's not naivety but trust in the vision of our Chairman. The only player I could see possibly leave is MS - only because he is French and Wenger might tap him up. Luke would be mad to leave at this stage of his development; he can always go to Chelsea if he wants when he is the ripe old age of 21/22 and can make it in their side. Why would he want 60k for sitting doing nothing? He's a young lad who obviously loves playing football. He may well be on 15K in July anyway, which I'm sure he will be more than happy with.

Shaw won't be going anywhere....we are in the PL now and I doubt whether Luke has a father who is trying to engineer a move to supplement his pension.

I'm sure NC won't be happy the way the season has fizzled out - I'm not. Sure, we dominate possession, but we do very little with it. In fact we created more chances under Nigel. Hopefully, MP will be more tactically astute next season, otherwise the axe may be dusted off before Christmas. The real positive for me is that no team bar West Brom has really outplayed us since the turn of the year. We need more quality in the team that's for sure - especially someone who can shoot. I'm afraid the Champions League is still a very wet dream at the moment. -
Would you sell Shaw if the other team loaned him back for a season?
Suomi Saint replied to DuncanRG's topic in The Saints
A big 'No.' -
He hasn't done a lot since 2005 in all honesty, but he deserves recognition for what he achieved prior to that.
-
I'm not surprised Jones was upset.....I'd be livid. Leaving the religious connotations aside, this was an act that was in really bad taste.
-
No mention of the fans?????? Are we not part of the unity?

There shouldn't be a pitch invasion this year; think of the kids, the OAPS, the disabled, women, middle-aged supporters etc. who will enjoy seeing their heroes do a lap of honour. The club doesn't want it, the players don't want it, therefore why do it?

Our owners. Just because they are Swiss-based doesn't mean they are Swiss. -

No surprise. All the decent players will be off too. If the Germans are trying to sell then the valuation is plunging by the minute. This appears to be a real power play, sadly. -
This is a very interesting point about contracts. NC does not appear to be as ruthless with the players as he is with the management and anyone else. Does this mean that he does have insecurities and does actually feel the need to be "liked" by someone? On the signings front, I don't believe that Gaston will turn out to be a waste of money, and neither do we have any real evidence to suggest that Forren is 4 million down the drain. Of course if he continues to be " the invisible man" then we can question the transfer committee's judgement. Overall, NC has got it right - which is why I voted 'yes.'
-
I usually dislike men of NC's profile - vertically challenged, smug, a control-freak, foreign - but I cannot ignore his fantastic achievements at Saints; therefore I voted YES. The alternative would have been bumbling around in the Championship with the likes of Phil Brown at the helm. Perma-tanned cheesy smiles, back-slapping, the old mates network - and failure. I can't imagine that NC has leaked this news himself - it's not his style. If he did then he is taking a bit of a gamble. I don't believe the dispute centres on the way he runs the club or the way he treated Nigel, Benali, MLT, or even the spoons; hard-nosed German business people wouldn't give a hoot about such things. My personal opinion, for what it's worth, is that our owners don't want to spend what is required this summer.

Lambert still has the quality; it's the way we are playing at the moment that is the problem. Give the guy a break!
-
We dominate teams much more but create less chances over 90 minutes. The football is pretty to watch but we don't do a lot with it; primarily because we compress the opposition into their final third and there is little room to play in. That is why you need a player to pick the lock - someone like Punch who, unfortunately, has been sitting on the bench. The team has definitely run out of steam, and it seems MP has run out of ideas. However, let's see what he does with 3 or 4 new players of his own choosing. Presumably, "Mr Invisible" Forren wasn't his first foray in the transfer market? If he was then the U21's will have a good team next year!

We were by far the better side, but just lacked that spark in the final third. We really opened them up when JWP and Punch came on. I can't fathom why MP has used Punch so sparingly - he looked really sharp. JWP looked Scholesesque - he's going to be some player next season. I don't think anyone can blame Jos; the defence did okay and were undone by a wonder strike from a bloke who has got 2 goals in 2 years. True, some of the players looked a little leggy, but we did well overall. A win next week is a must - let's finish the season on a high.
