  1. I always really enjoy his interviews as he is mature way beyond his years. If he keeps that passion and determination then he will be a success wherever he goes. Having viewed both the CA and PEH interviews, it seems to me that: a) there is a palpable frustration with the manager, and, b) a lack of respect for his authority. Charlie was quite forthright in that he used phrases like "out in the cold," and "the manager has a big decision to make" when referring to PEH's MOM performance. And now PEH has been quite strong in his opinions too. Add in the Boufal antics after he scored the other week, and I think this shows MP has a problem. Personally, I do not like MP's post-match interviews where he downright refuses to give praise to individuals. Footballers get frustrated when they are not playing of course, but it is very rare that they have the bravery to vent these frustrations so publicly. Having said that, it is now up to both CA and PEH to make themselves indispensable to the team.
  2. The team was better in 1984, no doubt. Some of the football played was amazing. Robbed in the cup semi-final, it was nearly a dream year. Liverpool were the deserved champions, though.
  3. Yep, I was there as a 14 year old with my Dad and his workmate (RIP). The atmosphere for most of the Match was strangely subdued as the football was a bit scrappy. I remember distinctly the cries of "Eagles, Eagles" coming from the other end and not having a clue what they were singing. I think I was in a state of disbelief at the final whistle that Saints had actually managed to reach Wembley, especially as I was at the Dell in the 3rd Round when we so nearly went out against Villa. Is it me, or did the players look so much older then than they do now? Great day.
  4. The worrying thing for me is that he chose to go to Swansea when we are 3rd in the PL - doesn't bode well for keeping other players.
  5. Our Nige had nothing to do with the Forren signing either. That was 4M down the drain also.
  6. Brought up in Hythe and supported my local team. Some of the kids at school supported Liverpool. I could never understand plastics.....never will.
  7. FA Cup. 4th means absolutely nothing in terms of history making, especially if we get knocked out in the qualifying game.
  8. No. Do you ask for a refund at the cinema when you've watched a rubbish movie? Football is entertaining because it is unpredictable. Personally, I would find it patronising if they made such an offer. Better for the players to man up, show they care, and win 2-0 on Saturday.
  9. Nigel did a fantastic job for us, end of story. How could he have done better, won the PL? The Championship has long been regarded as extremely competitive, and under his guidance we flew through it no bother. I don't remember Nigel losing 5 on the bounce either. Good luck to him in the future and I hope we see him managing the opposition at St. Mary's one day.
  10. This is the game we simply have to get something from, otherwise it could conceivably be 9 losses on the bounce. We only need 14 points to avoid relegation - I'm with Dalek, that's the priority now. I'm still traumatised from 1973/74 when we were 5th at Christmas and got relegated! Time to change tactics and grind out a result.
  11. Yes, I thought that was strange too, especially as it is obviously cherished by the family. His choice of words was a bit odd in parts, but overall it was a good speech. He obviously wants the very best for the club - I think he just gets a little bit over excited at times. He has the energy, the drive, and that should be applauded. Great videos, great day. All those interviewed were very impressive - Les Reed in particular. Great to see TP attend all the way from South Africa. I remember the days when he had a greengrocers not far from the Dell.
  12. He is probably not as athletic as some keepers because he is a big unit, but the stats never lie. If you ever saw Shilton play you will know there are similarities between the 2 - sheer presence in the goalmouth. Actually, Saints fans used to make fun of Shilts with regard to his ability to come out for crosses. No goalkeeper is perfect, but Forster to me seems very, very good. The first goal at Stoke was a well hit shot through a crowd of players and the angle was spot on. I think criticism of Forster for that goal is a bit harsh.
  13. Beckham was a great player and so was MLT of course. The difference between the 2 was that Matt was a tad laid-back and could often go missing on a cold afternoon up North. He was overweight but a great crowd pleaser and a crowd puller, but the lack of England caps is really down to his lack of dedication and ambition. But we love him for it. If you compare him to Mick Channon then you can see why Mick got the number of caps that he did and why he was injury free throughout his very long career.
  14. Your "mate" hasn't texted back though has he? Something which takes seconds. It's so easy to make these stories up just to attract attention. Why try and undermine everyone's expectations - is that the action of a true Saints fan?
  15. These sort of postings really get my goat. Why don't you go and do your attention seeking elsewhere.
  16. One game at a time...........I started to have these fantasies last year and then we lost 2-0 at the Emirates. Beat QPR on Saturday, quickly followed by horsewhipping the duplicitous Argie Bar Steward, and then we can start to believe.
  17. The vultures are circling already, but given he's a local lad we might just have a chance of keeping him.........might. He should take note of tubby Shaw's current situation and ignore Wenger when he comes knocking.
  18. I think these anti-Pardew threads are just silly. This has been misinterpreted pure and simple. There is absolutely no evidence that he is a heavy gambling womaniser either. He comes across well in interviews and at least recognised the Saints fans craving for a trophy. He got us back to winning ways and signed some really good players. I, for one, have no issues with him.

19 years old, 3rd season in the PL, and an U21 International. That says it all in my book. Great prospect and a very level-headed lad - until he gets tapped up on England duty of course.
  20. It was a very tame match if my memory serves me right. It wouldn't surprise me if there was indeed an 'agreement.' I think my biggest recollection was the behavior of the Spurs fans - real North London thugs. They spent the whole match demolishing the newly erected fence. It was a bit of an anti-climax after Orient away, but I guess the players were still hung over after that momentous night.
  21. Totally meaningless announcement - Saints have probably agreed an option on him with one of the Top 6 already. Saves them buying him and loaning him back for experience. More hollow announcements, and then by Christmas 'his head will be at Man U.' I hate this business model which Saints are seemingly adopting. I can understand some players leaving, but the likes of Chambers and Morgan should be persuaded to stay quite easily - particularly as RK is a high profile guy. There is no way a brand new team can gel sufficiently to compete in the PL. It's madness, really.
  22. "It's part of the philosophy to keep the younger players at the club" says RK. Shaw gone and now possibly Chambers? Why does the Club spout this nonsense? Fans aren't daft. It is becoming clearer that we are now following some parent/feeder club model for the Top 6's benefit. RK seems cool about it, though, but perhaps he also sees Saints as merely a stepping stone. This is not how football should be and the fans are the ones to suffer as always. We are the equivalent of movie "extras" these days - fill the stadium to create the atmosphere for TV only.
  23. This in a nutshell.
  24. Why all this negativity toward Sharp? As a poacher, why can't he play off the new guy?
  25. Yep, Yakin.................get him in.
