It looks like this new owner is a bit clueless about football.....perhaps in business too. Maybe our Board has not told him about the catastrophic financial consequences of being relegated, and the fact that all the decent players will leave. I guess he will get a rude awakening just like the Venkys did at Blackburn. Things are not looking good at all.

Good point, it is very divisive. Paxman is, to some extent, guilty of attention seeking - he has the ego the size of a house - but I suspect his comments are rooted in the result of the Brexit referendum, which, whether you like it or not, was a truly democratic vote. Hence he makes the suggestion to reduce the influence of the 'grey' vote. Sure, the ageing population has had an effect on housing and the NHS, but to say mass immigration has had no effect is simply wrong. The population at the time of the Maastricht Treaty was 57.58M, it is now 66.57M, i.e. an increase of nearly 16% in 25 years only. All this in a very small island, which is one of, if not the most, densely populated countries in Europe. The land mass here in Finland is 1.50 times the UK with a population of only 5 million, and despite higher wage costs than the UK, houses are probably, on average, less than half the cost of the UK. Personally, I would ban the purchasing of second homes in the UK to try and solve the problem of shortage of supply, but will voters be prepared to accept it (young and old)? I visited the UK a couple of years back and stayed in a place called Upper Slaughter in the Cotswolds. A once thriving village, it is now a weekend retreat for rich people from London. I was shocked how local people had been economically cleansed from their own area.

Weighing reduces the power of the single vote and would make the elderly second class citizens. It is still disenfranchisement of a large proportion of the population. Paxman is an idiot.

Banning old people from voting.....how is this any different than banning the Jews from voting under the 1935 Nuremberg Laws? It becomes the thin end of the wedge and where does it end? Old people would no longer have the ability to influence government policy, so what would happen if the new Nationalist Socialists decide to punish the elderly for their privileged years of inaccessible university education, interest rates at over 20%, unheated housing etc. Would you treat immigrants in the same manner? I doubt it. Then don’t even suggest doing it to decent people that have bought you into this world and have given you the freedoms you now enjoy. Older people recognise that the young are having a tough time particularly with respect to housing, and it is time for some of you to realise that the old are not your enemy. Btw, anyone who questions the effects of mass immigration is not a racist or a bigot, they are just comparing how things functioned prior to Maastricht to how they are now. The liberals always try to shut down valid debate using the R card, which is an attempt to limit freedom of speech and freedom of debate.

I sincerely hope that the above comments are tongue in cheek? Just wait until you get old, chaps. The UK's problems are not being caused by old people, but stem directly from stagnation in wages, which is a direct result of the mass immigration of cheap labour. Low wages do not help to stimulate the economy (and create well paid jobs), and, furthermore, do not help increase fiscal revenues. Younger people are suffering more because they cannot afford housing, which has become prohibitively expensive due to demand exceeding supply. The NHS is on its knees because it has far too many customers caused by the large increase in population in the last 10 years. None of this has anything to do with the old folks who have paid handsomely into the system all their working lives. With respect to voting, older people are not as daft as you think, they have the benefit of long experience and have seen life. Quite honestly, I find the above comments to be very distasteful.

That's how I see it....it will definitely affect 20/21, 21/22 and 22/23. For 21/22 there will have to be a 3-month shutdown minimum. Nothing like changing the basis of the bid.....Qatar was supposed to have built 12 air conditioned stadia, which is now down to half a dozen open air ones - all in a city smaller than Birmingham. Most are not very big too, but I suppose if the land border remains closed as it is then no fans will want to attend anyway. Huge disruption to leagues everywhere, for what? Money.

I must be delusional too - I think we'll win!

Is this being done also to facilitate the 2022 Qatar winter World Cup? I hope not.

Keeping Track of the Contracts 2024-25
Suomi Saint replied to Over land and sea's topic in The Saints
I would keep Forster, Yoshida, McQueen, Long and Austin from that list. Maybe let Long go if we bring Gallagher back, but I will miss him because my 82 year old father will no longer have anyone to complain about! -
I don't care that much about any of them tbh. I would much rather focus on supporting the current lot......before they too catch the gravy train to Liverpool.
-
Haven't many posters being saying the same thing, though? I seem to remember seeing many posts complaining that we have become a "player trading club" being "asset stripped" by the owner and so forth...........
-
Stephens was a bit of a powder puff on that corner to be honest, but he made amends with an excellent goal. Fans shouldn't be too harsh on him, he is contributing well to the team.
-
I'm with you on this. Goals are what it's all about, and Austin can be relied upon to provide a few.
-
I don't see any reason why we can't give Liverpool a good game. I am quite confident about this one as long as he plays the same team (except he needs to bring in PEH for OR).
-
I think Pardew will keep them up as JRod/Sturridge will do the business. We, on the other hand, have bought a striker who does not know the PL and has very little time to get up to speed. A big gamble by Saints.
-
This is a good point. I watched Pardew's interview after WBA beat Liverpool, and he said that at this stage of the season it is important to play with no fear and just go for it.
-
Remember it well. Went straight from school via the Hythe Ferry with a few mates, still wearing our school uniforms. Great view from the boy's box at the Milton end. Happy days!

I am not a fan of MP, but I have to applaud that he is taking the competition seriously unlike others before him.....and we actually WON! The younger brigade might regard the FA Cup as trivial because they have been brainwashed by the CL over the past few years, but to us older supporters it is still a great competition. 1st May 1976 at Wembley was the best day of my life thus far, and you will never get the same feeling by finishing 4th in the league.....ever. History only remembers winners....and you have to be in it to win it, which we still are. Therefore, I do not see the reason why certain posters wish to be so negative on a day such as this. Take another look at our semi-final win over Palace in '76.......that was really ugly football, but it was only the result that mattered.
-
I agree with you. Personally, I am sick of this disrespect for the FA Cup. Getting through to the 5th Round will start to create a buzz in the fanbase and within the club - which will help in our fight against relegation. Play a full, settled team!!
-
This. Saints will not be able to keep him if relegated. He is too good for the Championship. Top, top player in the making.
-
75 million received and nothing spent. I realise that the 75 million will be received over time, but by the same token we only have to pay for new players over time also. Therefore, we can afford to spend 75 million on players now and still break even (minus Celtic's sell on fee).
-
Where did all the transfer money go?
-
I agree, but we have no strong leader in the team to organise such an insurrection.
-
I think people are referring to the fact that the victims of Heysel have been somewhat overlooked over the years. However, this transfer does seem rather strange, and I am not surprised that the mayor is querying it - albeit it is probably not within his powers to do so.
