Are you kidding? It could never get any bigger than 1976. The FA Cup in those days was bigger than the League title....in both the eyes of the players and the fans. To put it into context, Saints chances of winning the FA Cup back then was as likely as winning the Champions League today. Seriously. Just because the FA Cup has been devalued by idiotic club owners today, doesn't devalue the massive achievement back in 1976. 100,000 at Wembley against Man U......versus 32,000 at St. Mary's against the might of Coventry. Get real. This game is on par with Orient in '78.....it's massive but not the biggest in 50 years, for sure. I, for one, can say that day at Wembley was the best day in my life and I will never forget it.

A strange case, but they should all be ashamed of themselves. Taking advantage of a 19-year old and even filming it on their mobiles. Both should have been locked up if anything. Evans will have a hard time now as a convicted sex offender. Silly boy.

Anyone Going Tomorrow At The Last 2 Top Flight Promotions?
Suomi Saint replied to View From The Top's topic in The Saints
The funniest thing I remember about '78 at Orient was the South Today sports reporter trying to climb a cat ladder to a gantry, which I presumed held the commentary box. His legs were wobbling and 00's of sympathetic Saints fans were giving him some "encouragement." -
Do you remember the scene in the Great Escape when the Germans machine gun all the recaptured POW's in a field? Just a thought.

It's up to the individual though, isn't it? I think anything over 3,000 would be a good turnout quite honestly. I wouldn't blame people for putting other priorities first. It all depends what age you are and on your status - if you are young, have no responsibilities, and want to go on the lash, then you should make an effort to go. 1978 at Orient was during the week, 15,000 Saints fans turned up, and it was an absolutely magical night. But then again, I was only 14, it wasn't on the box, and it was a different era. The 3,000+ plus will do us proud, and more importantly, they will be rewarded with some great memories. Priceless. The most important thing is that the team's performance rewards those that are going - not the other way around.

Go and watch the film "Gaslands." After you've seen that you will not think it's such a good idea. Basically, "fracking" is a patented method which was developed by Halliburton - you've guessed it...when **** Cheney was in charge. This method contains up to 700 TOXIC chemicals which can pollute the ground water. I saw the movie only a few weeks ago and people can literally light the water as it is coming out of their taps. 60,000 wells were drilled in the US using this method during the Bush - Cheney era. It is a major scandal in the US.

I was visiting my parents in the Midlands in England last year, and for a treat I decided to take my Dad and my eldest daughter to Walsall away. Okay, that was bad enough, but my Father, who is in his late 70's and hadn't seen Saints live for many years, happened to say out loud, "Who is that No. 7.....he's rubbish." Referring of course to SRL. Okay, Rickie had missed a couple of sitters, and my Father's eyesight is probably not as good as it used to be, but I nearly crawled under my seat with embarrassment. It still haunts me to this day. The defeat that day depressed him for many days thereafter, so that still proves he is a Saints fan. Good luck for Saturday whoever is making the long trip up North. I will be watching it (hopefully) via a stream from Qatar.

This could be the find of the century. It is amazing how low Cameron will go to get some kudos, though. Thatcher regained the Falklands....Cameron regained a few Spitfires. Not quite the same. But, hey ho, it is very exciting for all plane enthusiasts and anyone proud of their British heritage. It's a pity the engines are not Merlins - that sound is fantastic!

I'm not so sure he is mad.....but of course his actions are. The whole of the western world is concerned with the spread of Islam....and how many people have been killed in that struggle to date? "Thou shalt not kill" is a reference to the individual, not the judiciary, governments, or the military. Why should there be a differentiation? No one should have the right to kill another human being. Breivik is arguing that his was a military action and therefore he is not guilty. If we all did this type of thing, then the world would end up like a toilet....complete anarchy....Mad Max. Mmmm....Libya anyone? Anyway, it's all going to end as we know it will.....he will spend the rest of his life in a 5-star Norwegian prison cell....time enough to reflect on the evils he has perpetrated. It is a shame he cannot share it with George W Bush and Tony Blair. How many people did they kill on the basis of a lie?

The nerves are affecting Saints fans all over the world. However, it's only a game right? What would you rather see next season.....a dogfight against relegation or a swathe of superb wins? Of course we all hope for promotion, but the PL is pretty dull compared to the Championship in reality. There are 3 separate leagues within a league in the Prem...and the bottom 2 are pretty dross imho. Notwithstanding this, we will prevail and go up - I'm sure of that. If we don't, then it's more wins and greater entertainment next season. Tuesday's match is a must-win. If we lose, then it's the play-offs for sure.
-
West Ham will win tomorrow, so the pressure will be on us on Tuesday. I can see us losing that one, so it will go down to the wire. Reading are champions - it's a real fight for 2nd now.
-
Fox at fault for the first - terrible crossfield ball. Cork the 2nd - didn't pick his man up who had acres of space. And of course Fonte the 3rd. Just terrible defending, pure and simple. With this team we will be drubbed in the Premier - if we get there.
-
Reading could finish....Saints couldn't. Schoolboy defending by Saints for all 3 goals. I must admit, I don't think we'll make the autos now. They weren't penalties either. De Ridder was lucky to get away with his challenge IMHO. Reading are good at smash and grab. They deserve to win the title.

At first I thought the photograph was actually a joke - I'd imagined some sicko had cut/pasted it from an article about a group of physically challenged people on a day out to the seaside. If this is the photo that was the header to the article, then this so-called journalist does indeed need re-training. A really ridiculous article. I'm a 50 year old man with 4 kids, well educated, but even I would have given hand signals to these so called "best supporters in the land." The poster above was right, a real journalist worth his salt would focus on the financial irregularities of this dying football club. Having said that, Saints need to up their PR a bit if we make the PL. Not just Sibley, but also Nigel. Sky won't be happy pumping millions into Saints, only to receive the same tape recorded after match interview every week.
-
I think everyone should keep a sense of perspective. Today's game was a real spectacle for the neutral and Saints played their part in it. The Pompey keeper pulled off 2 or 3 world class saves and they scored 2 cracking goals. That's football. In 1977/78 we drew 2-2 at home to Oldham and everyone was doom and gloom after that game - it was a game we would have lost but for Tony Funnel. I do think Saints are lacking in central midfield, though, and I thought Hammond looked unfit. Cork couldn't get a grip on the game either. Maybe time for one of the young prospects to step forward? Add a bit of vitality. Just a thought. If we lose on Monday, then things are different. But we are effectively 5 clear of West Ham and still everything to play for.
-
The interviewer was so bad that he even referred to Kevin Keegan as "flaxen haired." Lawrie corrected him on that one. It was great to listen to Mick, my all-time favourite Saints player. Does anyone remember his early days at Saints when he was continuously falling over? So much so, that the crowd had a chant for it - simplistically, "Channon's fallen over!"

I live in Doha and it is not a dive, but you should be aware that it is light years behind, say, Dubai. If you are a married couple with no children, have your accommodation paid for, then there is very little risk here. The one downside to Doha is that there are not enough schools, but this will have to be addressed by the Qatari Govt. if they want to proceed with the scale of development required for the Olympics/World Cup. This may offer further opportunities for your good lady in the future. If you get bored of Doha then Dubai is only 45 minutes flight away. Good for a weekend visit, but of course you will need an exit visa. I have been here 8 months and have had no problems whatsoever. Life will be what you make it, and teachers here get a lot of time off. More importantly, Saints are shown on Al Jazeera Sport sometimes, and next year, hopefully, on Abu Dhabi Sports if we make the Premier League.

West Ham are too strong I think - 2 wins and a draw when down to 10 men shows their resilience in my opinion. I hope I'm wrong. Saints are going to need at least 85 points to stand a chance, and that means only one thing - they've got to buck up the away form....and fast.
-
For what it's worth....In the BBC Predictor I have Birmingham top on 85 points, West Ham second on 85 points, and Saints third on 81 points. I've voted for a loss in the play-offs. Saints away form is going to be the downfall I'm afraid. For me, a win this weekend at Watford is vital. I just can't see West Ham and Birmingham dropping too many points from now on.
-
I agree.......it's going to be too close to call. I think Saints will need a minimum of W8 D4 L2 to make 2nd spot. That's some going!

Have you ever heard an elderly relative complain about certain races/creeds that own corner shops? Would you hand them over to the Police? 1984 is upon us, where every citizen reports on others. I think the OP has opened a valid debate, but would he have done so in the absence of the Suarez and Terry scenarios? I think not. Sure, this guy was wrong in what he said, no doubt about that, but the punishment would surely be disproportionate to the alleged crime - a ban. I cringe when I hear anything remotely racist, and I tell the orator that it's politically incorrect. You don't have to be aggressive, just make a point. The guy is hardly going to leap out of his seat and attack you inside a packed stadium now is he? What about the chants "you fat bar steward" and "the referee is a tommy tanker?" Eventually stadiums will be silent in fear of criminal sanction. If you see/hear the guy do it again....have a word. We all make mistakes in life.
-
Have you ever thought that the guy got a bit carried away and made a mistake which he regretted later? If you report him for this one mistake then he could get banned from St. Mary's? And then the little girl you said he was with would suffer aswell. I think the first course of action would be to tell him to tone it down....not to set serious wheels in motion. How many times have you heard "see you next Tuesday" in public? That is the most demeaning word you can say about women. Have you reported that? Suarez got a slap on the wrist....this guy would get worse. Racism is bad, but at least give the alleged perpetrator a warning before you take away his first love....Saints.
