I thought Saints were poor overall. Everton only raised their game for 10-15 minutes and blew us away. The formation was all wrong and we left huge gaps at times.
-
Could be one of many things. Don't drive it if it is overheating - can warp the head and that's your engine gone. Take it to a garage straight away.

Everton at Highbury in '84. Why did 000's of Everton fans race to our end and goad us? Fair play to our lot, though - gave as good as they got. One guy from my local made the front page of the nationals whilst giving a demonstration on Queensbury Rules. The headline said "scum" or something similar. Sadly, we should have won that game long before the sand in the goalmouth made the ball bounce kindly for that dwarf Heath to score. I think that particular result was even more depressing than England's penalty shoot-out loss in 1990.

I don't really care what other fans think, and probably the examples given above are not a true reflection of the views of Villa fans. There are idiots on both sides of the fence. Just look at this forum - Nigel is not good enough, KD is carp, Fonte is not PL standard, Punch should be taken away and publicly flogged, Rickie should be dropped, Adam's performance levels have fallen since his England call-up, 12M was too much to spend on one player (Ramirez!), S Davis is not up to it.....etc. All these quite recent in one form or another. Too much emotion, chaps. In the old days, when we lost, we just went home and ate our Saturday tea in gloomy silence. When we won, we read the matchday programme over and over again in satisfaction. It's just football. We will probably get spanked at Everton and we will be written off once more. Deal with it. I for one am just looking forward to watching the partnership develop between Rickie and Gaston - it will be something which other fans can't fail to notice in time.

I think these threads are very disrespectful. Kelvin has been a great servant to the club and was voted top goalie in both the Championship and League 1. Okay, he has been at fault with some of the goals this season, but who says he can't have a positive influence at the club from here on. Show some loyalty please.

Three words: Gaston - Ramirez - CLASS.

Another guy with his nose in the trough. But it wouldn't do any harm to check would it?
-
If true, very unwise of Le Tissier to publicly issue this information. He is in danger of losing the respect of Saints fans if he is not careful. His day, like Lawrie's, has gone. It's time to support the club, not undermine it.

Why on earth would we want Benitez? A flukey Champion's League win aside, he started the decline at Liverpool.....he's lost it. Which is why no other club has employed him. Huge wages, huge ego to boot. Cut Nigel some slack - as soon as the new Le Tiss gets going (Ramirez) we will be okay. I was angry when he blew the Man U game with his daft substitutions, but he is learning the PL ropes like the rest of us. It's not as if we've been dross in defeat - we haven't. Even at Arsenal we played some lovely stuff in the second half. Keep the faith I say. I hope we (Ramirez) tear Villa to shreds so that this silly talk stops.

The western side of Southampton Water is not sparsely populated, and of course the eastern side is even more populated - and is in the fall-out zone of the prevailing wind. As the poster above states, strategic could mean many things. Of course, if the money grubbing French - EDF - get hold of the land, then they might try and build one of their nuclear plants on it. Judging by their performance at Olkiluoto and Flammanville, we'll be all pushing up daisies by the time it's finished. Google might even buy the site - they use old industrial plants which have a good cooling water system for their major server sites.
-
No way will it become a nuclear power station. The area both sides of the water are too heavily populated. RWE have pulled the plug on any involvement in nuclear.

I watched the game on TV here in Qatar and I am not as depressed as many on here. We were undone too many times by losing the ball in midfield and became stretched. That is why Arsenal picked us off easily. To blame Davis, Fox, and Clyne is a bit short sighted. True, we don't know how to defend at the moment, but it is as a team. I quite enjoyed the match once the result was never in doubt. The spell Saints had in the 2nd half was very good. Ramirez oozed class. The Japanese guy was fairly comfortable on the ball, but he is not a PL centre back by any stretch of the imagination. Most likely, we are heading for the abyss, for the reasons we have all known about for a long time, but there is still plenty of time to turn it around. Nigel has got to rethink his strategy and enlist the help of a defensive coach. We can't outplay teams for 90 minutes, and we are so vulnerable when we lose possession. He is too attack minded, and we know what happened to the "Charge of the Light Brigade."

I think we'll win this one.....2-0.

It was a very sad event, sure, but the motor car and cigarettes kill far more people every single day. The Russians lost 20M in the War, so I think people need to put this event into perspective. How many innocent people died when the Yanks illegally invaded Iraq? How many innocent people in the Third World die of disease and hunger to support World Order and our cosy little lives in the West? Do we have memorials for them? Personally, I am fed up with this continual 9/11 business. I feel sorry for the people who died, yes, but I do not feel sorry for the people who are alive and who are feeling sorry for themselves. It's the dead person who gets the bum deal.

I have to say that I actually like the new red kit. I don't know what all the fuss is about. I liked the "sash" too. Maybe next year we can return to the 1960's classic red and white stripes...that would be good.

Of course Nigel doesn't deserve the sack at the moment, but he's got to learn fast. As previous posters have said, blowing 12M on one player and not bothering to strengthen the defence and gk position is criminal. The Japanese fellow is a major gamble, and is most obviously a Cortese signing for global branding reasons. Nigel's got to grow a pair and tell Cortese to bugger off. The 3 substitutions were just plainly ridiculous in real time (not hindsight), and anyone who disputes that is just plain deluded. However, Saints were superb at times, but 3 of the back 5 need replacing PDQ. Otherwise we WILL go down. In all a blaze of glory maybe, but you win nothing for gallant suicide. Ward Prowse was simply sensational for a young boy....sensational.
-
To be honest, Nigel's judgement is starting to concern me. He should man up and tell Cortese to stick to his job. The substitutions came from "upstairs" I reckon. It's not hindsight as some have suggested. I shook my head in real time at ALL 3 substitutions. I'm so angry right now because the boys played out of their skins. Ward Prowse was amazing for a 17 year old, and Puncheon/Schneiderlin were just superb.
-
wtf? There is only one person who lost us that game - Adkins. Maybe it was Cortese insisting on the new signing making an appearance?
-
Not happy about Billy leaving, and I question why we have gone for signings who have no PL experience. For me, it's part of Cortese's masterplan for marketing Saints in South America, Africa, and Asia. I had never heard of any of these guys before, therefore I can only wait and see if they match up to the hype. How many Japanese central defenders have been successful in the Prem? Why didn't we strengthen midfield? Where is our PL standard goalkeeper? All pertinent questions IMHO. Having said all that, at least it seems that we are serious about life in the PL - judging by the fortune we've spent.

Billy Sharp - Joins Notts Forest on Season Long Loan
Suomi Saint replied to Saint Garrett's topic in The Saints
I'm not happy about letting Billy go - mistake in my opinion. He knows where the goal is. I think Cortese has got carried away with his business plan and attempts at global branding the Saints. Don't get me wrong, the new signings look exciting, but can they stick the ball in the net like Billy? Only time will tell. If we get relegated - and that is likely - we'll need Billy back again after the others have cleared off. -
Yes, man up, it's easy. Biggest tip is to make them sleep in their own room right from the start. That was the best advice we received from the midwife. Don't put too many bed clothes on them, make sure they sleep on their back or side. Enjoy the projectile vomiting....that is really spectacular when it happens!

Selling RL is the most ridiculous suggestion I've ever heard. On Saturday he was the only player (apart from Adam) who remotely looked like scoring. The guy is class and has a nose for goals....even at PL level. He is a very canny player and has great control too. Okay, he doesn't run around a lot......just like a certain MLT. If he goes then we will certainly be relegated in my opinion.
-
This is all becoming rather dull. I would have expected that Saints had done their homework on who owns what with regard to Ramirez before they embarked on this soap opera. The trouble is that it is all Latinos involved in this process.....Italians, Swiss Italians, and Spaniards (Uruguayans). All emotion, double dealing and brinkmanship. Personally, I couldn't care less if he signs or not, as there is no guarantee he is actually any good. A lot of money for a 21 year old, and ask yourself why have no other top clubs gone in for him if he's that good?

Who is the best SFC player you saw as a youngster
Suomi Saint replied to Miltonroader07's topic in The Saints
My favourite players when I was young were Mick Channon and Steve Williams. For me, Mick is probably the best Saints player of all time. Stevie Williams was fantastic to watch, and his running battles with Souness were fascinating. Souness would kick him early on and then Stevie would hunt him out and give as good as he got. Best young payer? Mark Wright - a class above any central defender I've ever seen in a Saints shirt. -
The worrying thing for me was the motivation of the players after going 1-0 down...they showed no real fight. Whether this was because they felt restricted by the game plan or were confused by Nigel's tactics I don't know. The game was so slow and dull at times, it was like watching a park match. Swansea, on the other hand, whip the ball around to make lots of space. Their players are not much better than ours, but they don't plod around like Saints did yesterday. It's early doors, but that performance doesn't bode well. You couldn't really pick out individual players who were terrible, but there was no collective urgency. It may be simply that Nigel is over-complicating things. 3 or 4 new players definitely needed, including a goalkeeper. Kelvin's distribution is not good enough for the Prem. Hoofing it down the left wing is not the way to go.
