Jaidi has taken up a non playing role, so that is irrelevant. Lambert probably got a new contract on account of the massive number of goals he scored and continues to score? Hooiveld was initially on loan but then signed permanently in January 2012. Davis started the season as first choice keeper, and is the clear choice at the moment for reserve keeper. Most importantly, these three players have actually played and performed in the Premier League. They are arguably all certain to feature in a match day team/bench when fit. I'm guessing that's why they got new contracts, as opposed to Cortese getting all misty eyed over what they did when we were in League 1.
  2. So we should be in all white then? Or red and blue stripes. Or blue and black. Red and black. Wait, what about black and white? This psychology thing is complicated... I mean, I'm sure it can't be the much simpler explanation that Man United, Bayern Munich and Liverpool are much bigger clubs with better players than Southampton, Stoke and Sunderland. Far more likely to be the colour of the top they're wearing. When does the era of european domination start for Walsall?
  3. No, you can set it to boot to the desktop. Best way is actually to install a 3rd party app to replace the start button (pokki is surprisingly good). The changes to the windows ui in win8 are totally counter productive without a touchscreen. The *sole* advantage with a desktop is that it runs slightly quicker than win7, but nowhere near enough to make the workarounds worthwhile. Best advice I can give you is when your machine arrives, format it and install win7.
  4. I would expect to see Forren a couple of times once we are officially 'safe'. Banging on about how long it takes to get fit is missing the point. We saw at the beginning of the season how catastrophic it can be to have an uncoordinated defence. It took an almost fatally long time, and some big calls, to fix it. Despite our steady improvement, we have remained in the danger zone up until very recently. On that basis, the manager would have to be absolutely mental to bring in a new centre back at that time.
  5. 2/10, try much harder
  6. Exactly. It's a very common statistical misinterpretation (and the reason so many idiots 'No Deal' with Noel when in an insurmountable position...) being in 11th place and 6 points clear of the relegation zone is a *completely* different prospect, mathematically, to being 6 points clear and in 17th would be.
  7. one of the oldest Internet urban myths around.
  8. To be fair to the hellspawn, anything in the Mail is likely a) ghostwritten and b) specifically written to cater for the lowest common denominator. I know he gets a lot of grief for his 'punditry', often entirely justifiably, but having not watched him for a while and then catching the post Reading 'wash up' at the weekend, I was pleasantly surprised at his analysis of the game. When talking about Lambert he really focused on his first touch and ability to make a yard of space with intelligent movement. When someone brought up the typical lazy comparison to Grant Holt, Redknapp said that he had far more in common with Sheringham with his style of play. And he didn't once say literally. Ruud. ps: none of our players will be future regular England players, with the possible exception of Shaw, if he moves.
  9. No you don't. You end up dying in a freezing vacuum.
  10. Given that you're in the Windsor/Slough area, bear in mind that if you buy near one of the fast mainline stations on the Reading to Paddington line (Reading, Twyford, Maidenhead and Slough), you're going to get a significant boost in value in a few years when Crossrail goes live.
  11. Much worse off than 5 years ago. In that time there have been no pay increases, massive reduction in benefits, massive increase in salary deductions and a corresponding massive reduction in what those deductions get me, and no promotional opportunities so no opportunity to offset any of that with an increase in salary. In real terms I'm probably 15-20% worse off short term, and about 40% worse off long term. And it's set to carry on for at least another 2-3 years. Pretty sure that the arseholes that got us in this trouble in the first place are okay though, so that's alright.
  12. Or they can just approach the player and offer him a massive wedge, like in every other major transfer. The naivety towards this whole business every time one of these stories comes up is amazing. Nine times out of ten, if one of the big clubs really wants a player from a smaller club, they get them. Chelsea will have about half a dozen prospective targets for right back, and this little bit of media briefing is the first salvo in what will be a very long and drawn out summer if their interest is serious. If they decide they really want Clyne, they'll probably get him. And there's little or nothing that the club can do about it.
  13. The correct answer is Raphael Varane. Centre back at Real Madrid. Tipped by Zidane to be the best defender in the world within 5 years. Two Clasicos. Two wins. Two goals. No fouls.
  14. Because he's ****ing useless
  15. I used to drink only red, nowadays I'll go for a white every time (and in fact get killer hangovers from anything more than a glass of red). Tastes change, you're not doing anything 'wrong' per se. I know when I'm drinking something special like a pomerol, I just don't get as much out of it. Instead try diversifying your choice of white, a South American Sauvignon blanc is worthy enough but you'll find far more depth in something like a pouilly fume, and far more clarity in a good Sancerre. You could even (dare you whisper it) try a rose...
  16. So 'easy' that despite doing it, it still took the Danny Fox Effect for us to lose.
  17. Cardiff have been nearly-men for years, repeatedly getting to the playoffs before bottling it at the death. The shirts change colour, and in the next season they're 8 points clear at the top with 5 to play (including a game in hand). Difficult to argue against on that basis.
  18. Mogadishu
  19. Cristiano Ronaldo Thierry Henry Didier Drogba All had woeful first seasons. All turned out to be not too bad in the end.
  20. Format and reinstall
  21. presumably because he doesn't want his front garden to look like something from behind the Iron Curtain?
  22. The idea of beating Liverpool in the transfer market is not as far fetched as it seems. They are resolutely a upper-mid table side now, the days of them being part of the 'big four' that had a lock on the Champions League places year on year are long gone, so their revenue has taken a massive nosedive. In addition, their owner was one of the earliest adopters of 'Moneyball' in the US, and he saw it bring success back to Fenway after years in the wilderness. The Red Sox were a massive club, living off former glories but no longer part of the top table, saddled with big-time players past their best and prospects who never turned out as good as they had hoped, all on huge wages. Sound familiar? Henry saw a statistical approach based on limited funds bring the World Series back to the Sox, and now he wants to do the same with Liverpool. In Rogers he has got a young manager who will be prepared to operate without the ridiculous largesse of recent years, and he will want the likes of Henderson, Downing and Carroll off the books before he allows any more significant spending. For as far upwards as we have travelled in the past three years, Liverpool have travelled the same distance downwards. Do we equal them in terms of history, reputation and that fabled 'big club' measurement? No, of course not. But can we realistically compete, safely, on a financial basis? Yes, definitely.
  23. Never did really, it's just the blinkered idiotic default English mentality that centre backs should be hulking giants. Amazing really, considering who captained us to our only ever World Cup.
