  1. Yeh, have heard it from a couple of people. One of which I used to work with in Winchester, but her parents lived in Norwich. How contrary to your post. All this Southampton nostagia sounds like a basis for a Men They Couldn't Hang song.
  2. Have been in Block 4 suince SMS opened but I don't mind moving now as I think it has got pretty crap lately with fans more interested in trying to argue with stewards over the right to stand up. It's not the stewards fault that they are made to make people sit down. But copied the above post as there were some fans at the Bristol Rovers game singing 'Are you Norwich in disguise?" at the match last week as Rovers were playing in yellow shirts and green shorts. If Norwich were to play anywhere in disguise, I would like to think they would wear a different kit than yellow shirts and green shorts.
  3. There was talk that it was because of the trouble caused by some of our fans there a couple of years ago...but it could also be because England are playing on the Saturday and many lower league teams (as we are) move their games so as not to clash with England games and lose potential fans
  4. It is the same bloke. He is not that popular at pompey according to my pompey mates. Have to say the Skates were unlucky to lose that. But wil counter that with the fact that Everton were pretty appalling and still won. I could still see Pompey staying up though as there are some terrible sides in the Greatest League in the World.
  5. Been over to watch barca quite a few times and that is fun. Different from what you may expect as it is not an all singing all dancing atmosphere, but there is still a buzz about the place. Been to some Valencia games as well and the Mestalla has a good atmosphere. Hope to go to watch Real Betis at some point, but Seville seems an expensive place to stay. Also planning on going to watch hertha berlin. No feelings fo rthwm, but have heard that Berlin is a fantastic city to visit so may as well catch a game there.
  6. Not bothered if the Scotch go thrugh or not. Would like to play them in a tournament again though. Would laugh a lot more if the frenchies fail to qualify.
  7. I remember this happening quite a bit around that time. the betting companies stopped that particular spread bet as so many players were doind it. MLT is certainly not the first player to admit to it (though sadly, I can't remember who the other one was! I will say Merson as it makes sense)
  8. Didn't they get Dindane as well? He is not too bad. I can still see pompey staying up. Still don't feel comfortable taking the **** out of a Premier League team whilst we are on minus 7 in some sort of no mans land between Division 3 & 4.
  9. I don't go in for the pompey **** taking that much, as we are currently somewhere in limbo between Divisions 3 & 4, but that is a funny title for the story.
  10. I saw us lose 4-1 at Old Trafford on a bog screen at the Dell. the quality of the picture was shocing and I got into a fight (and it was the last fight I was involved in) with a plastic manc. A mate of mine did go to Fratton when he couldn't get a ticket for The Dell when we stuffed them 3-0 (thee time before last when we stuffed them 3-0). though it was great being at The Dell, part of me is jealous of him beinfg there. he was one of the few to stay till the end.
  11. The way I read the comments made by Storrie, the fake Dr is not going to be taking them over and if he is, Storrie is out of a job. I think someone else is taking them over. Someone with money I would assume.

Not my earliest memory, but that Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" seemed to be played at least twice every home match in 84/85, and I always associate it with sitting in the Upper West Stand where I had use of a season ticket.
  13. It is quite sweet seeing that Brazil goal in 1st place (IMO, the best goal ever, I love the swagger and the arrogance of it) and seeing humble old Saints in 3rd. Though we had a bit of swagger & arrogance in the early 80's.
  14. OK, not a book, but it is worth watching Threads (which you can find on Ebay or Amazon). BBC drama from about 1983 about the build up to and aftermath of a nuclear attack on Britain. I remember being totally freaked out when it was shown, then I believe it was banned from being shown for years but has turned up on BBC4 in the last few years. The clever thing is, an attack in barely mentioned by the characters until it is imminent. You just hear Radio/TV reports in the background of their everyday conversations. Good bit of social history as well. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Threads
  15. Yeh, think I saw her on the Sunday up the Arbor. And agree about the dinosaurs, they were great fun.
  16. Think that Betty was at Winch Hat Fair today. Did she do the human carousel?
  17. The Beck goal was for Derby in another 3-3 (we were 3-1 up and Ripley got one of them. pahars scored a screamer, and Delap got one for Derby) Remember a brilliant 4-3 win V Ipswicjh in the early 90's, with le Tiss getting a last minute winner for us, after Ipswich had equalised a minute before The 4-1 win against Liverpool was probably the best performance I have ever seen from us though. We ripped them to pieces that day, and could have had 7. Later on that season we beat Swindon 4-2 in the league cup AET. We were two nil down and we brought on Shearer & Ruddock to play up front. They terrorised the Swindon defence, kicked anything that moved, and we finally took the tie to extra time, when Le Tiss & Rod Wallace won the game.
  18. I think when Giggs calls it a day, people will start to class him in the same bracket as Charlton & Law. Maybe not Best, but you would argue that Giggs won far more than Best did, and over a far greater period of time
  19. Don't think he scored, but Darren Anderton was superb that awful night when Spurs beat us 6-2. Henry just about every time Seeing Beckhams full arsenal of deadly passes & crosses in a 3-3 at Old Trafford Schmeical (sp) in a 2-0 win V Citeh at SMS. WOuld have been at least 6 Memory block on the name, but a Boro forward riipping us to pieces at The Dell in a 3-1 win. think he was Croat or that neck of the woods. Boksic? Southall just about every game he played at The Dell. For a couple of seasons, he was the best in the world IMHO And one from nowhere, Carlisle's keeper in a classic Milk Cup tie at The Dell. We were 2-0 down from the first leg and threw everything at them but he stopped it all, till Martin Foyle got a late goal and we won in extra time. All a vivid memory for me as it was my first night match.
  20. Are you serious? really? I have seen Saints on about 60odd different grounds and I don't think I have worn colours since I was about 15/16. Seems that people want to have a pop at Nick for any reason at the moment. The reason The Echo/Sky contact him is that he has made himself known for over 20 years now since the formation of the ugly. I am sure he would be more than happy for more fans to take the initiatve and start a fanzine/webzine/supporters group and take time out from their personal lives to voice opinion, but despite many people moaning, very few have done this (there are honourable exceptions such as Steve Grant & Daren Wheeler). Sure, I don't agree with all he says, but then, that is what the game is about. I have been given the chance of airing my views on Sky but I chose not to as I did not feel confident enough. Fair play to anyone who does. Perhaps instead of just having a go at the likes of Nick/Richard Chroley, people may want to think about exactly what they want to say, and how they can achieve their proposals. And if Nick IS the voicepiece, perhaps conact him, I am sure he would listen to you.
  21. I did the same a few weeks back. Said could not afford Sky anymore and got 25% discount for 6 months and told to phone back when that is over as they would be able to offer something else. Also phoned my ISP and asked for MAC code. They asked why I was thinking of leaving and I said I was just shopping around. they increased speed to about 8Mbps, gave me 3 months free and reduced price to £7.99 a month after that. I also cancelled Setanta about 18 months ago and stopped DD payments. Setanta have kindly never switched off my signal or taken any money despite me having an Email from them saying it is cancelled. I don't think this is a special offer though. More their stupidity (I think I may lose it when I get the new Sky card soon though?)
  22. Didn't think much of it at the time, but as with others and has been mentioned, I was expecting a similar album to the first. Now I am that bit older I reckon I listen to it at least as much as the first one. Great album, just different to TSR. Stand out track for me (at the moment) is How Do You Sleep? Also, check out the video to 10 Storey Love Song. I think you can see what sort of influences the band were under at the time...
  23. Yeh, but it is easier to slag people off, isn't it?
  24. Yeh, you are right, sorry. We may not be able to emulate Barca, but we are having a good go at emulating Valencia. They are on the verge of going out of business as well.
  25. Unlike United,, Milan, Citeh, bin dippers, Juve etc etc? Though I think their fans wouldprefer they just gave money to Unicef rather than have the shirt 'defaced'. Fair play to them though (and Villa)
