Le Tissier: "Cortese is not a nice human being"
Chorlton replied to Saint-Armstrong's topic in The Saints
Roger is correct. And it is also irrelevant. -
The best saints perfotmance i've ever witnessed
Chorlton replied to The Majestic Channon's topic in The Saints
The 6-3 V United sounds obvious, but we were actually hanging on for a long time when they made it 3-2. Them having Keane sent off really helped us that day as well as Le Tiss & Berkovic had no one to kick them. Think it has to be the Liverpool 4-1 in my lifetime. We were amazing that day and slaughtered them. But I will also suggest a 3-1 win at Coventry (despite our keeper wanting Coventry to win). Le Tiss & Ekelund were inspired. I can only assume that Xavi & Iniesta were on a school trip in the West Midlands that day and managed to get in to Highfield Rd. -
Think someone missed one V Leeds on 90/91 (Rideout? Shearer?) then I don't remember anyone missing (because we always had Le Tiss) till Magilton in 96/7. Ruddock scored his most important one but also missed one or two.

Yep. 6Music. This morning I have heard The Kinks, The Jam, The Cure & The Stone Roses. Chris Hawkins & Shaun Keaveny are excellent in the mornings.

Might burst a few bubbles on here, but skate mate just said there is a new middle eastern takeover bud , reported on Arabianbusiness.com

This thread sometimes has some interesting stuff on it, and I know some decent skates who have read it and even learned from it, but moaning about Pompey OnLine, and squinnying to The Football League really makes Saints fans look small time.

Haven't actually been able to get on the website using IE since it changed. I just get a blank screen. If I use Chrome I can get on, it freezes quite a bit, but I was able to buy my Arsenal tickets easily enough once I had managed to get logged on. Then the money was debited from my account 6 times, but other than that, it was OK.

I thought this place had the extremists and the Ugly had people who didn't take themselves quite as seriously? And as for someone saying how they are beginning to dislike 'Matt the Prat" (jeez), well, words fail me. Can only assume they are under the age of about 20 and didn't see him at his height. Though they should know how he kept the club in the news during the dark days, or know how highly regarded he is amongst fans around the world? Not getting into the Cortese debate as let's face it, NONE of us know, but MLT not being welcome at the club, and indeed many past heroes not being welcome, is a sad state of affairs.

Went to Berlin for 4 days last year, On Expedia, a decent hotel + flights was only about £400 for me & the wife. Amazing city (and very cheap for a capital), took in a Hertha match, which was possibly the best atmosphere I have ever been in for 18 euros a ticket, sausage & a beer for 3 euros in local bars, very interesting 3rd Reich Tour (Berliners never really took to Hitler, and he never took to them), the television tower, Checkpoint Charlie museum, cheap public transport and some very alternative clubs. You can't go wrong.

Top 3 most mental goal celebrations at a Saints Game
Chorlton replied to JackanorySFC's topic in The Saints
me & some other matey both fell over running down the stairs towards the front when Rickie equalised on Sunday. My leg still bloody hurts but would do it again. Another one I dont think was mentioned was when Marsden scored V Wolves in the cup on 2003. St Marys was rocking as much as anywhere when that went in. -
We are the famous Southampton and we're in the Movie
Chorlton replied to Noodles34's topic in The Saints
Not a film, but in an early 80s Swap Shop or Superstore, Cheggers asked a young lad on Southsea Common what he was into. The lad said ''football', and Keith replied, 'of course you are, what with Kevin Keegan and Saints just up the road' -
That was The India Arms, now Alfie's, which is run by the same guy who runs The Exchange. It is a totally different bar to what it was. There was an infamous night in Winch when pompey had played at Reading and a load of their tosspot fans were invited to Winch, apparently by that landlord. Remember some 16 year old Saints fan getting half strangled by his scarf. Fulflood is bottom of my road, but have only been in there a couple of times. Nice enough pub but full of the Winch types who wear mustard cords with a pastel sweater tied over their shoulders. Glad King Alfred has been mentioned. I forgot about that one. Well worth a visit (but make sure you go to The Black Boy!)
-
The Exchange is OK for a beer, and normally my Friday after work pub, but for a more traditional pub, it is worth checking out The Hyde Tavern, The Wykeham Arms (very posh and pretentious, but with reason to be I guess) and most of all, go to the Black Boy. Really is one of the best pubs in the country (with all sorts of such awards). So you really need to go out of the city centre a bit, but it is a small city so that isn't too bad.

Quite like Brighton. Had a great day out at Goldstone for Fans United day and have kept half an eye on results since, They performed a miracle staying in the league that year. Don't particularly like Poyet, but that has nothing to do with him being manager of Brighton. And didn't care much about the supposed rivalry in the 2011 promotion compaign. Their fans got wound up, some of ours got wound up. That's football. Have to say that Brighton is a great night out though, far better than Southampton.

Watch the BBC Drama film Threads. If you grew up in the 70s/80s it will terrify you. Set in Sheffield in the build up to and aftermath of a nuclear attack. Mind you, the first Paranormal Activity completely freaked me out, so I have a low threshold.

Apols if I have missed the irony, but are they 'plastic walk up fans', if they are walking up to a Friendly? The need to feel a better fan at SMS and on here is astounding. Though if it is some sort of in-joke, then really, I apologise!

Despite the relegation, had some cracking away days in 08/09 but also one of the worst ever. Getting humped 3-0 at Swansea, we barely broke sweat in our efforts to get into their half, police were right miserable tossers that day, not allowed in pubs, crap journey up, fights amongst Saints fans, crap journey back after being kept in the cage outside. Oh, and some psychopath I know accused me of sleeping with his sister. I hadn't.

They knew the Buttner deal was in trouble, so they are trying to sell us a German left sided player instead. However, it turned out to be an dodgy agent, and the player in question was in actual fact Prutton dressed as Lahm. here all week etc etc

I work with a few skates, and one was my boss. We just have pretty good natured 'banter' (I hate that word!), and it doesn't get in the way of work. As an aside, I had the snip a couple of years back and asked at the pre op if I would be OK to go to football the day after the procedure. The doctor said he couldn't see a problem, then asked who I supported. When I said Saints, he looked at me, smiled, took a sip from his till then hidden Pompey mug and said "Well, sometimes there are complications...." When I had the actual snip done, he kept on saying how he was enjoying making sure there were no more little scummers going to be running around the place, and what fun it was mangling a scummers balls.

Picture I took a few minutes after relegation in 2005
Chorlton replied to bender's topic in The Saints
Yep. George the Postie from Winch. Quite a 'character'. -
As they would have got 40% or whatever from that match, surely we would have owed them for the cup match at SMS? Wouldn't they have just kept their ticket sales, and we would have paid the difference over to them?
-
FWIW, I think it would be a shame if Corp stopped posting here. People may not agree with him, and maybe he has been wrong about things (who hasn't?), but I think he certainly adds something. Certainly more than people taking the **** out of his job (why FFS) or grown men called Pompey 'Poopey'.
-
Jan, you have mail on Facebook!

yep, totally agree. I wish Capello had stayed, but failing that, Hiddink would be my choice.

He left when we were 3/4 months in to the first Championship season, and we were going nowhere. The near miss was the following season. Whatever you think of harry, (and I despise the bloke), his time at Saints has been airbrushed out of history in the media. I think the Guardian Fiver are the only people who have mentioned his relegation with us, and they are some of the only ones who have questioned him. Bale has been mentioned elsewhere, and that is the man Redknapp barely played and was rumoured to be sending out on loan to Forest until injuries forced his hand. he may be a good man manager, he may have the passion, but when Germany or Spain are running rings around us, thumping your chest for the three lions won't get your very far. Ask the last 'people's choice', Kevin Keegan I think I am right in saying that when Harry took Saints over, we were 4th bottom. We had a half decent team that was lacking a dominant centre back. It wasn't a lack of money, it was a lack of decent transfer dealings and some terrible team selections (agree with the poster above as well, the team for the United match was a joke).
