Think Barca may be transitional rather than rejuvenated. Would like them to win it again though. Otherwise, think Chelsea may take some stopping. And have to say they do look better to watch this season after boring their way to success the last few years

Co-Commentators (and how Claridge should be banned!)
Chorlton replied to Sheff Saint's topic in The Saints
I think Claridge is a pretty funny bloke and don't buy intio this 'he hates us' stuff. He seems to enjoy the banter and probably plays up to it at times. I am sure I read somewhere (possibly in his pretty good book 'Tales from the Bootcamp')that he was/is a Liverpool fan rather than a skate -
Guess it is just me that doesn't have great memories of the day. I know we looked good in the stansd and made a bit of noise, but it just seemed an anti climax to me. I don't think we gave it our all in the final and my journey home was just miserable. The semi final & Bucharest was excellent, but I didn't want us to be remembered as great fans who sang throughout even though we lost. Anyone one would put up a show at a cup final and it reminds me of another club. I think I am feeling miserable.

Would love to get my hands on the scum who did this!

Whatever the wrongs & rights, parents who have lost a child have to live with it for the rest of their lives. If a toddler has died in a pond accident then the parents or guardians will know what they could have done and it will haunt them for ever. Doesn't mean it was their fault. Just about every accident is avoidable, that is why it is an accident. It can take a great many things to come together for an accident to happen and no one can legislate for everything. There are bad parents out there, but there are good parents who have had their lves ripped apart through no fault of their own. People are so quick to judge others (can see that on here a lot), but no one knows what is just around the corner. -
Yeh, those people who tooil away in low paid jobs providing you with a service just so they can have a few days in the sun away from the grind really had it coming to them. Serves them right. It hopefully will get sorted for them, but they may have to change leave arrangements, school arrangements, stay elsewhere, but hey, they're cackers so it is OK, and if it almost makes you laugh, then that will make things a bit better for them.. It is worse for the people who have lost their jobs of course, but it is all relative.

I thought he was one of the better posters and IMO, he often won the arguments (though not the attendance ones). But then I have not paid my £5 through laziness and the fact I rarely post on this site anyway so what does it matter? The impression I get from this site though, is that that some people seem to genuinely hate each other and take things far too seriously. Point in case, someone the other say posted a great piece and it was thought provoking and open for debate. Straight away someone picked him/her up on their spelling. As someone who remembers the birth of the football fazine it is so frustrating to see It really doesn't matter as long as it can be read. Anyhoo, forgot what I was going to say so as you were

I love watching just about any football and really enjoyed the Euros, but I was still upset England weren't there and desperately hope that we qualify for the World Cup. I know England players are largely a bunch of tossers and they don't make it easy to support them, but I still do, and I enjoy going to England matches. Saints will always come first and I think that is the position for most fans, but each to their own. But I will say that if England were to win the Euros or a World Cup, lots of people who say they don't care about it would be drinking the pubs dry and declaring undying love for the 3 Lions.

Well done the w@ts who shouted abuse at Kevin Philips
Chorlton replied to 1976_Child's topic in The Saints
Don't doubt that, and it is the way of the modern day footballer, but maybe it was not right for footballing reasons? It happens. It was obviously a bad time of his life if it is true about his wife and maybe he just wasn't happy here? Still don't think he slagged off the club. We do sometimes look smalltime. It was written in stone that he would score today. Just would like us to get behind the team 80% and banter 20% rather than at times vitriolic abuse 80% of the time, cos when we are the bitten on the arse we have no comeback. -

The abuse he gets seems to stem from an interview he gave where the gist of it was that signing for us was the wrong move for him. Don't think he slagged us off as a club or as fans, it just wasn't right. It happens but people took offence and give him **** each time he plays agianst us. then people get upset when he scores and celebates by taking the ****. I would do the same. I saw one bloke run aboyt 20 yards to have a go in the Itchen. Got himself nicked and must feel pretty stupid now (possibly. Who knows?) Fair play to KP for putting his hands up to the 'stand up if you've ****ged his wife' chants. Think he had the last laugh. I daresay Beatts will have the same treatment later on this season (different words though), but if we were to draw Arsenal (for example) in the cup, Theo would be a returning hero. Nothing agsinst him, but who did more for us? Beatts, KP, Theo in that order out of the three. Do like banter, but we often take it too far and end up looking stupid. -
I have already said it, but will give it another go. Archers went all seater in Summer 93. Milton in Summer 94. Therefore, this must have been 93-4. Ground is packed, which means it would have been post Branfoot in that season as crowds were down till ball/Le Tiss took hold. Last home game we stuffed Villa 4-1 and I think the crowd was about 19000, and it was the last day of standing at The Dell, so many went to the Milton. And that away team could be wearing claret & blue (West Ham was a night match) Also, though I don't think it is this incident, Villa had their keeper sent off and a player (Cox?) went in goal for them. think we only scored one past him, and that was Madda, who scored and was then chased by Batman who ran out of the away fans in Archers Rd to chase him. And even sadder, that is from memory! Can't guarantee that is the game, but it does fit in! If a pic was taken an hour or so later could be sure cos the Archers Rd goal would have a broken cross bar.

It was home to QPR in 92/3 and yes, it was a protest about branfoot. I think one of the blokes may be reasonably well known these days amongst Fair Oak Saints fans (or anyone within 50 yards of him at a match), but I only heard it was this chap years later so don't know for sure. The fan went & sat in the centre cirle during the match. Speedie did not like it and grabbed him by the scruff of the neck. Which was about the only thing he ever did for us.

Think people may be talking about different things. I reckon the picture of The Dell was from the last home game in 93/4 when we stuffed Villa 4-1 and they broke the cross bar. Milton End was packed out as it was the last day of Milton Rd terrace. The RAF incident was before my time, but having read about it a lot, I think it was between 77-79
