Mowbray I agree, but he has been managing in the Prem and Celtic so L1 probably not to his liking. The other two I don't. Brown is an attention seeking idiot and Megson. Wow. I think the fans of every club he has managed would have swapped him for Adkins. He is the ultimate hoof merchant - hardly in the Southampton Style that NC wants. So he certainly isnt a better candidate. But totally its about opinions. Fair enough.

Who are the better candidates that are realistic?

So a manager can only spent his whole career at a certain type of club? How can someone progress unless they are able to step up after doing a good job somewhere?

What part of his credentials do you not rate? What more could he really have done

Some loons on here. Ask anyone in football and they only have good things to say about Adkins. Ask anyone here and he is useless before he has started. This is where those bull**** MON rumours do nobody any favours, they raise already warped expectations to crazy levels. Adkins will do well so prepare serious helpings of humble pie. Also maybe actually do a google search and read about him because clearly Most of you know very little about his credentials!

Agree 100%. a couple of clever loans and some optimism and we are sorted! Thats why Adkins is dropping down a div, he knows the potential.

Telegraph journalist told me on twitter: 'Adkins is a good manager, really good. Has always taken an interest in Southampton, went down there when Woodward was there.' Harry Redknapp also referenced him as being one of the most intelligent managers around the other day. As for his interview, the perceived waffle is due to the nature of the current situation, which isn't easy for him. He seems a very principled man.

Will be great to get him in. Hopefully NC helps him get in a couple of loans too. He has conducted himself well throughout this fiasco so lets hope it all gets sorted soon. Their result today is totally irrelevant to anything he will do at Saints...

Would be easier if we didnt know all the crap in the middle and were just told real news ie Adkins is appointed, when it actually happens rather than when a phonemcall is made or when agent tells SSN that Hart is being appointed or Talksport reporting Phil Brown has picked his nose. The only real news today has come from the OS and Adkins himself, all else is subjective and hearsay. Would Howe really be offered the job whilst NC was in the middle of negotiating with Scunny for Adkins? Of course not. But look at the lift his 'snub' has given AFCB. Its games, what the football media is used for. But people believe all they read! Less than half is probably true! NC is no mug. He has conducted an interview process. He wouldn't offer two guys the same job on the same day. Why would he? Because the AFCB chairman says so? Come on!!

Talking to a manager doesnt constitute offering them the job. If NC wanted Howe he wouldnt have spent all night negotiating with NA only to change his mind in the morning! Have faith and don't trust what people with agendas say!

Today shows the importance of the media and how people take everything as gospel despite the club saying all official news would appear first on the OS. We want to know too much and arent good at assessing information. It also shows that NC has targetted someone who knows this league, a clever move IMO.

Its easy to knock NC. Its harder to see that perhaps he might be doing whats right for his business, which believe it or not, he wants to succeed.

Howe clearly a secondary choice to Adkins seeing as he was offered the job hours after Nigel!
