Because he wouldn't be going to a CL team so we would be directly strengthening a competitor. If Pelle wants to return to Italy then fair enough. If he wants to stay then we should give him a one year extension IMO.
-
Silly thread IMO. Lukaku anyday of the week. Just the same as if it were Benteke instead of Lukaku. But that doesn't mean we should sell Pelle or that he isnt an excellent player.
-
If he did he would be one of the very best strikers in the world. Is there a massive difference between Pelle and someone like Giroud? Not for me. Whatever way you look at it Pelle has been a massive part of our two good seasons under Koeman. Would only let go to a different league and if we had a proven quality striker lined up and those cost £20m plus which we won't pay. Remember we have the European games so will need more than just Long and Austin has fitness concerns and only one PL season under his belt. Jay Rod is incomparable to Pelle IMO and more in the Mane type position.
-
This guy was correct with the Koeman to Everton thing but not sure Everton fans would like this: @riccosrant: Every chance that Pelle will replace Lukaku at @Everton when Ronald Koeman arrives and Evertonians won't be disappointed. Would be amazed anyway if we sold Pelle to another PL team, that would be extremely odd.
-
But his teams press so well and he lets the U14s eat in the same room as first team players.
-
Quality finish and really good allround display from the hapless Pelle.
-
He hasn't been a first choice since about Boxing Day but still made vital contributions...Stoke away, Liverpool home, Palace home etc. He still has a couple of good years in him and teams like us shouldn't be tossing away one of the three or four regular scorers we have in the squad.
-
How many strikers are banging goals in all season? Would you not take Giroud because he has periods in which his form drops? He has also clearly played through knocks for Saints, probably because Austin and Jay Rod aren't reliable fitness wise. He doesn't have to start every game but he is a great option to have. Experienced, knows his game and of his type is one of the best in the PL. Don't think we are a good enough team to just sack off someone of his influence and quality.
-
We have them already so no need to let Pelle go. Especially as he is better than Austin and post injury Jay Rod. Strange IMO to be happy to let a very good striker go, one who scores important goals, allows the team to play a certain way that none of our other strikers can facilitate, and (crucially) is available for a high percentage of games. Are we likely to do much better than Pelle without spending very big money?

Agree. Looks like he fits at this level. Still a bit mad that we are seemingly not bothered to lose him in the summer. Must have someone pretty good lined up!

Few young, ball playing CBs around these days who can also defend. Luckily for us, one is ours at the moment. -
Yeah I thought that just seems incorrect. Also if a Manager came in and didn't come 6th I don't think the fan reaction would be overly negative. Most didn't expect 6th this season and very few will next year.

No clever passing in midfield to release him. He has been feeding on scraps.

Depending how far along a deal is it must be a right pain when a target gets hyped at a tournament.

Both points spot on. He writes to get a reaction.

All Martin Samuel wants is for people to talk about his articles. Job done from his point of view.

Obviously not that bad. But you need to take into context the leagues and the relative power of the clubs when looking at win percentages. Half of Porto's games they are about 1/5 to win. Probably similar with Fenerbache. I think Saints would look at more than results anyway but the Portguese and Turkish leagues contain some whipping boys with miles smaller budgets than the big sides.

Yakin didn't do especially well at Spartak hence leaving: http://www.skysports.com/football/news/11095/9869734/spartak

We know he is going so might as well just get it done and not have him doing a Lovren and moping around during the start of pre season. £11m or so an absolute bargain for whoever signs him but little the Club can do as his contract is so far run-down.

Saints were interested in Emre Mor, the supposed Turkish wonderkid who joined Dortmund. http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/arsenal-transfer-news-emre-mor-targeted-amid-interesed-from-southampton-and-galatasaray-a6803816.html

In some cases it is but obviously not all the time, clearly. The violence eacalated from when the first reports came out, especially when more Russian fans turned up. Its the genuine fans (including children) who aren't throwing chairs around and being dickheads, who deserve better protection especially inside the stadia. There is definitely a section of England fans looking for trouble, I'm not overly bothered if those morons get hurt by people who give it to them. For example after the game a group of about 200 England fans went looking for a bar in the same area as the violent incidents happened earlier in the day - surely that is just asking for trouble?
