Would be amazed if De Boer was actually not interested at all given he was definitely interested in the Everton job (almost cringeworthily public about it) and was also recently interested in Swansea too. Why wouldn't he fancy Saints?
-
Agree. Certainly don't think replacing Koeman will be an easy job despite the oft stated "we will just go and get someone better" stance. If it were that easy everyone would do it.
-
His last trophy was a Cup with Valencia in 07/08 I think (he still got fired). De Boer has only been at one club and has won the league four times in a row since 2010 (a record). Whilst he has only been successful at one club, thats still very impressive albeit at a big side. Koeman has only ever won the league in Holland also, and hasn't in almost 10 years. He has also been active as a Manager for about three times the length of time as De Boer who is much younger and hence is now looking for his next step. Tough to say one's record is hugely better than another, especially as overall Koeman's times at Valencia and Benfica were not successful ultimately.

Can this be merged with the other Manager thread?

Alex Crook's penpal has come up with this: http://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/521374/Southampton-replace-Ronald-Koeman-Saints-manager Going off Howe if he continually refers to his friends as "pals". Crooks's office obviously has a hotline to De Boer although only got one word out of him.
-
Possibly but at some stage we may need to throw our weight around like others do to us. If we rate him that highly then make it attractive enough (not just financially) for him to change his mind...like Koeman has.
-
"Yessh but in mine opinion" should get an outing.
-
There was a good Sky interview with him after their live game with Cardiff and he said they play that way because they have some pacy players but aren't the greatest squad technically so thats what works best with the blend they had. Comes across well and will surely have a good management career. May well be on our shortlist but as a 6th place PL side you would probably say its too big a step just now. Of lesser proven Coaches I think Howe would be ahead of Rowett for me.

This reiterates that Lee and Watson are staying at Saints: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/06/07/everton-agree-compensation-package-with-southampton-for-ronald-k/

Dunno if this has been posted before but...

Excellent article and good insight into what we would also look for in a new Manager. Thanks for posting. #everysip -
http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/everton-agree-ronald-koeman-deal-8135351 Mirror says Saints wanted a clause to stop Everton coming in for any of our players but under the rules its not enforceable. Suggests VVD is a major target for Everton, but is probably speculative. Quite repetitive from yesterday to be honest.

Haha. Its true though.
-
A bit different. But there is definitely value available with good scouting. Just because a team spends loads it doesn't always mean they will buy ****e.
-
That Koeman's Win % is just short of Adkins who had most of his games as a league front runner shows how good a job he did. Makes a change to have a PL win% so high as a club over the past 3 seasons.
-
Same thing could happen with Watson too. Nothing to prevent Everton making him an offer and/or him deciding he fancies the pay rise that could be on offer and telling Saints he wants out. Hopefully not of course but could happen.

According to reports in Spain quoting the Daily Mirror.

Considerably less than £40m also got Saints Van Dijk, Mane & Tadic. Money can be spent well as much as it can be spent badly.
-
Yep. Obviously not my words. Just an interesting outside perspective that Everton is perhaps perceieved as being bigger outside England than we realise.
-
Europeans in this context.
-
Balague usually well respected. Interesting (and new viewpoint): @GuillemBalague: Many people in England don't realise the weight that Everton carries 4 Europeans. We see it (and it is) a huge club https://t.co/OZWQAhQfgO

Rivals/Other Prem clubs transfer thread

Definitely a bit more business seems to be being done early each season but still the majority will be in August. -
Lets hope so. He didn't have a 47% win rate for no reason afterall.
-
Telelgraph article said we had made inroads on targets agreed with Koeman. Has to make a difference in some form as surely we won't actually sign anyone until we have a new Manager and whilst deals arent likely to be confirmed now lots of the leg work will be being done so has to put us at a disadvantage versus teams who do have a Manager. Hopefully we get someone in within the next two weeks.
-
We aren't going to be interested in a stop gap IMO. Definitely grear we have higher expectations and its a sign of how well the club has done. But far from easy to keep churning out top quality managerial appointments every two years so still a massive decision ahead for Reed and co.
-
@GraemeBailey: Everton will pay Southampton £5m for Ronald Koeman - you can't even get much in the Championship nowadays for that - could be a bargain! Tend to agree for a top Manager. No slight on Saints as we have got more than many teams have. But its a good deal for Everton as Koeman seems to have been Moshiri's no1.
