  1. If just some of our better players are likely to be sold for more than £100m why, oh why could they not have been moulded into a team good enough to compete in the Premier League?
  2. This. Jones is here at least until the end of the season and probably longer. Looking for reasons to make things even worse for him just plays into the hands of our opponents. We need points and points are more likely with a supportive fan base. OK I guess to criticise him here but at least support the team and him during a match. The away fans at Newcastle showed how to do it despite the odd team he chose.
  3. It was a long time ago and I was considerably younger. As I remember we were along one side of the pitch towards the end Saints were kicking to. Tommy got the ball on the left, the far side from us, maybe halfway in our half. Then he just ran and ran beating numerous opponents before firing home. As Tom & Jerry says the entire ground was applauding and we couldn't really believe what we had just seen. But maybe there's an element of nostalgia in there too. Looks like we'll never know if there were no cameras there.
  4. Yup. That's mine too. I don't suppose there were cameras at that game?
  5. Interestingly 1 more goal today and we would be 15th and on the same points as 13th. It's not a great start to the season but all is not yet lost.
  6. Why on earth is this ridiculous thread not in The Lounge?
  7. Confidence is so important at this level. We lost it at the end of last season but with the last two results you can see some belief returning. Long may it continue. With so many young untried signings there's no doubt it's a risk but if it pays off we could be in for exciting times again. I have the feeling that SR are pretty astute with a realistic long term plan.
  8. Any idea how fans of other teams view our transfer window so far?
  9. New keeper looking impressive. Saints tidy but as expected little up front so far.
  10. Another headed goal from a first time cross from the right. That's the third following JWP's two against Spurs. Surely something that's been planned and worked up on the training ground. Excellent crosses and three tremendous headed goals. The first touch cross must give the defenders just a fraction less time to organise and provide an element of surprise.
  11. Does it really matter whether we are regarded as a 'big' club? I'd prefer to watch the Saints in a full stadium every week rather than one that is only three quarters full half the time. Even now there are often plenty of empty seats evident.
  12. Semmens was simply laying out the way the club will be run over the next few years. I am hugely encouraged by his proposed approach for a club such as ours which is unable to compete financially with the big spenders. We appear to have good people in post, a plan, realistic aspirations and the possibility of watching some exciting young players playing entertaining football. Although he didn't say it I have no doubt he also believes that this model gives the greatest opportunity for continued team progression and potential silverware.
  13. Received from my Leicester supporting friend .... "Vestergard and Bertrand - I hear Southampton are starting a new venture selling snow to Eskimos🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 how did we fall for that?"
  14. Listened to Dave Merrington's first half commentary and thought we were doing pretty well in a hard fought, well balanced game. Come on here and apparently we're not! Prediction? 2-1 Saints.
  15. A good read on Kindle. Cortese is definitely not Frannie's best mate. An all round good bloke with a body as hard as nails and a mind of steel.
  16. Thanks Minsk. Used to really enjoy this in the past. Gives a great idea of how the season is progressing.
  17. Franny is one of my heroes. But I'm stuck abroad under Covid lockdown. An ideal time to read his autobiography. Is his book available online at all?
  18. Sometimes these match threads include the date of the match and the UK start time included in the title. I find this really useful. Could it be included routinely?
  19. Last year I predicted 7th and halfway through the season that was looking on the pessimistic side. But then injuries and some poor decisions wrecked confidence which is critical and easily lost. We never recovered. But, apart from losing Ings the team is much the same as that first half season, with most of the squad available and looking very fit. If we can replace Ings with someone half decent I think we'll be a comfortable 14th/15th. If not it's going to be a long, hard season. I'm going for 14th. Looking forward to Salisu, Adams, Tella, Perraud and Livramento having great seasons.
  20. Kudos to him. It can't be easy to pull yourself out of that sort of situation.
  21. I'm going for a bold 7th.
  22. Both circle and star show for me on mobile phone with Android Chrome.
  23. Wow. We're fun to watch again after several years of back passing. Well done boys, every one.
  24. I've just bought a 24 hour NowTV pass for £9.99 which I hope will allow me to watch a legal stream.
