Apparently 3 players are already the subject of bids from PFC, no idea who? Being completely honest, I'm not at all disappointed by the sales, a good relegation scrap is better than any mid table mediocrity, far more exciting than meaningless matches we have become used to over the last couple of years. Pompey are always best when up against it, the previous couple of years have bored the s*it out of me and I include winning the FA cup in that! Give me the last day win at Wigan in '05 over a Wembley trip anyday, We love the drama, we love to hate our Villains and we love to dig in and scrap, bring it on! :smt026:smt026:smt026:smt026

I think it's a great deal for Pompey. Defoe does not want to play for Pompey now, we do need another striker, we wont get one of the quality of Defoe, but we'll be better off without him and clearing more debt, than with him and him being a bad apple. When West Ham got relegated he put in a transfer request the day after, they still did not sell him. He then got himself sent off three times to force a move, how disgusting is that? I think parallels can be drawn with the way he has performed in recent weeks, culminating in the non game from him and alleged purposeful penalty miss. Glad he's gone but really p****d off with the CONSTANT negative media campaign against us.

I can't argue with any of that Nick.
-
Thank you Steve, yet again you demonstrate superior understanding. It's funny because all rivalries aside, spurs always seem to behave in a distasteful way towards other teams players and staff, especially in the past SFC's.
-
I'd happily have pompey re-sign all those players hypo. These are not examples of our 'deadwood'.
-
Yes Hatch, Viafara and Vignal to name just two.
-
Yeah but Al, it's relative isn't it? I'm a mega JCL compared to the old fella who sits behind me and has watched pompey for nearly 60 years. It's such a stoopid arguement. I don't know why i'm even allowing myself to be drawn into it.
-
Can we not start going on about JCL's on here. The tedious ongoing JCL debate (or i'm a better Pompey fan than you.) has been going on for 3 or 4 years on every Pompey fan site going and one of the main reason's I don't post on them anymore, it's sickening. Obviously your entitled to say what you want, but this site is so much better for the lack of 'I love saints more than anyone else' undertones to so many threads. Or is it that I dont notice it?
-
Sorry Nick, Sol is WELL past it, not a top player in anyones book anymore, he's a has been. I'm not just standing up for a fellow Pompey fan, It's the truth, I bet you'd burn him for pace nowadays.
-
Even if Pompey sold these Three players we'd still be less likely to be relegated than Saints. Not that i'm wholly confident pompey won't be relegated, I just wanted to bring a bit of perspective to this thread. Carry on.

Christmas is over M****R F*****S! F*** you all, when we get relegated we'll still be in a division above your rabble! All my charitable plans are now officially shelved. I still maintain all intellectual rights to Southmouth FC including Images and all likenesses. MY LAWYERS ARE WATCHING

Again, all figures I have seen quoted in the same press you decide to believe when it tells you what you want to hear.
-
Granty be fair, Distan is a seriously good defender, maybe 6m is high but i'd say a more acurate valuation is somewhere between what you stated and what I stated. If we sell those players we will get a good return, maybe 30 Mill was a bit optimistic on my part, but even if it was a combined fee of 20 Mill it would be a step in the right direction and would significantly reduce our wage bill. Also campbell's mega wage will be gone at the end of the season as well as upto 13 free agents. If we survive this year, which we should, we'll be in a position to cut our cloth accordingly next season. A situation any sane Pompey fan will be happy with. Also the prices I have quoted are from the Press, the same press so many people on here are happy to take as Gospel when it involves doom and gloom re Pompey, why should i be any different and not pick and choose to believe what suits me?

Kranjcar is my Favourite player, but when he has played this year he has been pretty awful. IMO our best players this year have been Crouch, Distan, Johnson and Belhadj, two of which will probably leave for hefty sums of money. The key is who comes in, if no one, then yes we will struggle. I believe we have a few good replacements lined up already.
-
Depends what your definition of 'Achieve' is a suppose. If it's winning things then yes, if its longjevity in the top flight? I suppose we can't assess that for another 21 years. For the record IMO 27 years of top flight football is a huge achievment. But likewise, I'm rightly proud to say I support the 2008 FA Cup Winners and current cup holders, as would you if you were Trophy holders.

Like I say if we stay up this year, we will be OK for a good few years. I dont believe that anyone who wants to go will be stopped from going Players who want to go: Defoe - 14 Million Johnson - 10 Million Distan - 6 Million 30 Million + Diarras 20 Million goes along way to paying off our debt and making it more reasonable. We cant keep these players, they believe we dont match their ambitions now. I will be surprised if anyone else goes. Others will be bought in. Alot depends on the quality and more importantly readyness of those coming into replace those going. The press is having a field day with us. The owner is tight lipped, this allows speculation. Couple this with Redknapp leaving for spurs and the presses desire for Pompey to play their part in the story they want, which is, Redknapp leaves Pompey, Pompey implode, Spurs rise to greatness. Sorry but i've seen it before. When Redknapp quite Pompey to go to Saints, he jumped ship, Pompey were to perish and Saints would be saved under his stewardship. As we all know it never worked out like that. I am still optimistic regarding Pompey's future, not in terms of league position, but I do believe we will maintain our status.
-
I dont think Pompey will go down, though obviously it's a real possibility. I'll tell you what the problem is in a nutshell. The owner has had a ambition adjustment, until 6 months ago he was aiming to 'do a Villa' and had bought players accordingly, now we are looking to 'Do a Bolton' and just comfortably maintain our Premiership status. many of our players are now unhappy as they believed they were joining a more ambitious club. DISTAN, DEFOE and JOHNSON. They will all go in January. If we get the right replacements (Cheaper but still able) we will be ok, if we don't were f******. I believe if we stay up this year, we'll be ok next, financially too as so many of our players contracts are up this year and most of them if not all, wont be missed, we will then be on a much more solid financial footing a few years later we may even bring a few players through our new youth set up, which is actually coming along leaps and bounds.

Yes again another great idea. Another possibility would be to alternate Pick ups. We could pick up Fans in Southampton Docks, then Gosport and finally Portsmouth harbour before floating out to just off Spithead fort for Kick off. The club would have a captive audience so all beer, food and retail profits would go directly to the club. Sadly due to geographical restrictions fans from Leigh park, Winchester, Fareham and Eastleigh (Sorry ESB) will have to make their own way to the 3 designated pick up points.

Yes, even better and reflecting the heritage of our two cities would be...... THE TITANIC VICTORY STADIUM (Which also serves notice of our intentions to our oponents) obviously stadium sponsorship may come into the equation so we would need to be flexible and for monetary reasons embrace our new home as....... THE KELLOGS CRUNCHY NUT CORNFLAKE TITANIC VICTORY STADIUM or such like. Sadly this will lessen the intimidating nature of the Stadiums name, but I guess this is the 'Modern' way.

Of course! Sorry Al, Brilliant suggestion. I guess we should drop one of the lesser luninaries from the list (Like Charles Dickens) to make room for Benny. I also propose the new team enter the Stadium to the Theme music from Benny Hill too!

Neutral. I suggest we use PFC's Harbour studies into 'Floating' stadiums and go one step further and place the stadum in the Solent Channel. Stands can be named after famous citizens of the two cities, maybe Dickens (Charles), Brunel (Isimbard Kingdom), Sellers (Peter) and David (Craig). Each name could replace the more mundane North, South, East and West stands. When I get a moment over Christmas i'll put flesh to the bones of these ideas with some technical drawings.

Thanks Hatch. Wait till you see my preliminary Stadium designs!
