I think Holgate on loan is a decent option to add competition. Does it improve the starting 11, no. But it means we actually have some cover / depth in that position. I would imagine we would strengthen with someone better if we sell ABK. Otherwise we have him to come back into the team.
-
I don't know to be honest. Martin has always said that the team would be different come the end of the window. We still, today, have a very strong team which is a size of 26. So I would expect as we sell players now, then we will be replacing / strengthening.
-
Haven't they explicitly said that any money made will be put back into the club. This wont always be on transfers, but there has been zero suggestion of this from the club. It's just some assumptions from posters.
-
I'd argue Adams has been pushing for a move for the last two seasons. Every window he's linked with moves away, especially Everton... Doesn't seem much of a surprise to me. Tella is a tricky one. We farmed him out last season and I expect he feels he's proven himself a premier league player now, who deserves a chance. Again, depending what's going on behind the scenes, I'm ok selling him for the right money given we replace and strengthen.
-
They have an asset to protect, so why they might dig their heals in slightly, ultimately they will likely cave as they won't want to loose out on £10m if he goes for a free next summer
-
As long as they are good enough! Also it makes sense as they know how to play possession based football! Charles is looking like a really good player! Edozie is looking better this year, I thought he was really good at the weekend. I just want us to get the best players that we can that fit our system and add the depth and quality that we need
-
It feels now the squad is at a point (26 first teamers now) where any outgoings should be replaced now. Selling Adams / Tella will enable players in be brought in those areas. Ideally we want to shift Onauchu to bring in another forward as well to add some needed depth in that area. But it's still a very large squad! So I can't see the club moving now until we are weakened by further outgoings. Downes is the JWP replacement, and that will get wrapped up this week by the sounds of it as well!
-
Yeh! I feel he was second choice to Downes. It feels too much of a coincidence that we are getting Downes and he's now signed up to Swansea
-
I don't think it's time to shit the bed just yet. We knew we had to trim the squad before we could sign players. As of today we still have a first team of 26 players.... RM said we need another CM on top of Downes, other than that we need to shift a CB to make room there, and shift a striker to make room there. I think now when we sell anyone we will see the strengthening happen. RM also said this would run right until the end of the window and the team would look very different in Sept.
-
But none of those players have first team appearances! Harwood-Bellis is already proven at the very top of this level and still only 21. He would be a huge coup
-
We are making over £100m in transfer fees, they have said they will be re-investing. We have the parachute payments as well. So for this season at least we will have resources no other team in the league has! And we were already relegated when we spent £15m on Charles! I'm not expecting them to re-invest all of it. But it also wouldn't surprise me if we spent best part of £50m on a few players to strengthen us if we have space in the squad
-
I'm not sure it does. We spent £15m on Charles. I could see us spending £20m+ for one of the most promising CBs with experience out there!
-
Time will tell how well Martin will do with some actual resources and being backed financially. And we will see if he was holding you back next season. From the outside it looks like it did a great job to keep you competitive with such little money.
-
Yes, if we end up selling Bednerak ABK Salisu Perraud KWP Aribo Orsic Djnepo Lavia JWP Adams Onaucho Stu A Tella Already gone is Ely and Walcott That seems to be the likely list of players that are going, we might end up keeping one or two... That should give us something in the region of over £150m. Obviously there are areas to fill financially, but buying 8 players with a mix of youth and experience for this league seems about right for me.
-
I think we'll be signing more than 6 players.... My guess, depending if we get enough players offloaded will be GK, someone to challenege/back up CB, we will need at least two LB, Parraud likely off CM, we will need two to replace Lavia and JWP AM, depends who we keep here, but likely will need at least one ST, probably one or two depending who departs So I would say minimum we are looking at 8 players to rebuild the spine of the team. Money shouldn't be a problem either with the outgoings expected.
-
Yes we should, but it's a tight league and we are literally rebuilding the entire club, if we miss out by a couple of points but overall it's been a good season, then I think that's fine. As long as we are building / improving and look like we'll build on that for the following season. The entire back room staff, management, directors, players etc... are all changing. Including the philosophy of how we play. That will take time
-
I agree, and I think that was the issue with Jones. That loss to Forest, although 1-0 was fucking torrid! That was what made the fans turn rather than just the defeat. I hope he's given a fair crack! It's going to be a tough season and personally I think anything in and around playoffs would be decent given the overhaul of the entire club. It's something we can build upon going into next season.
-
I do think he was partly forced into a more forward role over the season. They have been faced with a lot of people leaving as they aren't happy with SR's changes. Whether these are the right changes or not, only time will tell. But we weren't exactly excelling in any areas before they arrived. Yes we had a budget, but even within that our recruitment has been largely poor over the last few years! They are trying to rebuild the club from top to bottom, and if people aren't aligned with that vision it makes it a lot harder to achieve. Granted they haven't shown much to have confidence, but I think next season is going to be the season to judge. Personally I think they weren't quick enough to make their changes and now are realising it needs to be more drastic. Again, only time will tell if these changes are the right ones, but I think this is what they should be judged on.

As posted above, he's part owner and co-founder of Sport Republic. He will not be going anywhere

I don't get the negativity. We have just been relegated in pathetic fashion. We aren't going to have a huge pool of managers, and I expect the top managers in the league aren't going to be interested. They've acted quickly with someone who appears to have a good football philosophy and knows the league. A manager, that is successful we can build around as well. The club needs a gutting and rebuild from top to bottom on and off the pitch, what we have been doing hasn't been working so they are taking a new approach. Personally I will back him and see what the summer brings and see how well he does when we actually play some games. I'm looking forward to a better brand of football that might actually result in us winning some games! And if that fails, then we are right to complain. I get there is little trust in the owners, but they have also had to gut the entire club as we have been on a slow decline for years! I saw since we finished 7th under Puel we have something like a 25% win rate.... Might even be slightly less now! Something new and different needs to happen if we stand any chance of rebuilding and having a successful club! For me the owners will be judged on where we go from here and how we do next season.
-
Because since then we have recruited Jason Wilcox who has different ideas he's bringing with him from City. This is about rebuilding the club in a style that's more successful and better suited to success. Whether this is the right decision or not is to be see, but that's where the change appears to have come from. It was also why Marsch decided against the job because we want to move away from the Red Bull style of football
-
I don't see why people are getting to annoyed about the Martin's link. He seems to play a good brand of football and has something about him tactically. It's clear ideally they want an up and coming British manager that we can build for the future with. Yes he might not work out, but writing him off as worse than Jones seems a tad extreme in my opinion. I'll get behind him, and get behind someone that will hopefully try and be progressive and get us playing football and actually trying to win matches.
-
But why is it on us to take all of the risk? He's had two failed appointments now with a hell of a lot to prove. We've offered him a chance to redeem himself. It works both ways, we are taking a risk on him, so it's only fair he takes some risk on us imo. Otherwise it's another very expensive failure. Two days ago the board were a shambles for thinking of appointing him I was on board with him, but wasn't under an illusions of what he might bring. Like everything it's a risk... I think seeing what Selles can do, given the players seem to be big fans of him, is worth a look
-
Exactly! While I was onboard with him, I don't think anyone thought he'd 100% keep us up. And if they don't think he's capable of doing a job long term then you can't blame them for that. He's had to disasters in his last two jobs and we were willing to give him a chance. It works both ways, why do we take all the risk when he also has a lot to prove.
-
So two days ago Marsch was useless, tactically inept, and a terrible appointment and it means the board have given up and it's a shamble, and we may as well have Selles in charge because the players really like him... Today, the board are useless and have given up because we couldn't sign the manager that everyone thought was useless and would 100% take us down... If they don't see him as a long term solution at present, and he doesn't want a shorter term contract or a contract with clauses, then it's probably better to part ways. Personally he wouldn't have been my choice given his recent history, particularly at Leipzig, but I was happy to give him a chance given our predicament. However I don't think "missing out" on him is the be all and end all. Selles was brought in as a potential long term replacement for Ralph. I don't think rushing out to get a manager that may not save us from relegation anyway and just cause more issues is the right thing to do (I'm not saying that is or isn't Marsch). If the right person comes along then great!
