I was a big fan of Cortese but I just don't buy that the players wouldn't have left if he was still here. The only reason players didn't want to leave under Cortese is that he successfully bull****ted them into thinking we could afford a champions league push. It's clear he wasn't going to be able to bull**** them any more, as this summer is the point he'd have been found out as having invented it without the financial backing to carry it out.

It's really very simple. If there were in a position to say "we 100% will not sell anybody and Pochettino will definitely stay", they would say it. They are clearly not in a position to say that, unfortunately, and so they can't really say anything.

What do they want the club to say. "Yes, we want to keep Pochettino, Lallana, Shaw. No we can't compete financially with United, Liverpool, Chelsea. As a result we don't really know what's going to happen."

I remember the moaning when we were always the last club to open renewals. How times change.

I'm afraid that clubs have spent so long treating fans as "customers", that's exactly what they've ended up with.
