  1. careful with your use of the word "until" in brackets people! #swearfilterroulettevictim
  2. Very few ppl going for Wigan to go down, while almost everyone picked Sunderland. And this would have gone to press before Fletcher's injury! Also interesting that only Chelsea, Man City and Everton tipped Villa to go down. Is it fair to say they've all been historically similar sized clubs and likely perennially competing with them *****il the influx of money into Chelsea and Man City, and of course ignoring Man City's dalliances in the lower leagues).
  3. It does provide a nice jumping off point for the "modern era" tho. It's not like it's only 5 years, it's a full 20 now, which feels about the right sort of length for comparing to history while remaining relevant (as well as still in a lot of people's memories). After all, I'm sure most would agree that the game has moved on so far from the 1920s that it barely merits comparison, so you do need some balance of history vs relevance in making direct comparisons. I'm all for using "Premiership years" in discussions, particularly when comparing general stats, but more because it happens to work out the right amount of time and not due to loyalty to Sky. Of course if some specific relevant thing happened in the 80s (or even before) that merits discussion then that's obviously fair game too.
  4. Poor old Joe.
  5. I was recruited by spudgun, and so was my wife.
  6. To be fair it was p*ssing down, not sure wool would have cut it in those conditions. Function takes a front seat when you're against the elements. Also, much as I've heard talk of him wearing Italian brogues on the touchline, looks more like he was wearing loafers on Saturday. Must have been all part of the more dressed down look when we play one of the smaller teams.
  7. Yes, I'm sure there's not one person in Hampshire would welcome the chance to sit next to the chairman of the local Premiership football team, business associates or otherwise. It must be that he can't find anyone to accept his invitations every week.

  11. Meanwhile over on Norwich forum: "Where is Grant Holt and John Ruddy?" Meanwhile over on Reading forum: "Where is Adam Le Fondre and Danny Guthrie?" Meanwhile over on QPR forum: "Where is Rob Green and Sean Wright Phillips?" Meanwhile over on Aston Villa forum: "Where is Darren Bent and Gabriel Agbonlahor?" Meanwhile over on Sunderland forum: "Where is Adam Johnson and Wes Brown?" Meanwhile over on Stoke forum: "Where is Ryan Shawcross and Peter Crouch?" Meanwhile over on West Ham forum: "Where is Andy Carroll and Joe Cole?" Meanwhile over on Wigan forum: "Looks about right."
  12. Nzonzi also 5th in the best signing category - although bottom of the nominees in both, so may be more of an issue with the people who drew up the short list.
  13. Chelsea's Brazilian playmaker Oscar came third. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2292008/Michael-Laudrup-best-manager-Premier-League.html
  14. Did anyone else just see a movement behind that pillar?
  15. Eyal Berkovic would be in there for me. Also prolly put in Crouch and push Le Tis into advanced midfield role.

    Possession

In your view, is it possible to put in a good performance but not end up winning the match?
  17. Does anyone know where I can get a life sized model of ET? I'm worried there'll be a run on them.
  18. So how we getting on with getting this song learnt, chaps? Are we all there? Should we have a get-together in the pub tonight to go through it one last time ready for Norwich?
  19. It's one of those homophobes I've been looking out for all this time!
  20. Get behind the song FFS! "No one's got a swell cleft in his chin like Gaston..." Full lyrics (for those who need it): Northam: Gosh it disturbs me to see you, Gaston Looking so down in the dumps Ev'ry guy here'd love to be you, Gaston Even when taking your lumps Itchen: There's no man in town as admired as you You're ev'ryone's favorite guy Ev'ryone's awed and inspired by you And it's not very hard to see why Chapel: No one's slick as Gaston No one's quick as Gaston No one's neck's as incredibly thick as Gaston's Kingsland: For there's no man in town half as manly Perfect, a pure paragon! You can ask any Tom, D*ck or Stanley And they'll tell you whose team they prefer to be on All: No one's been like Gaston A king pin like Gaston Itchen North: No one's got a swell cleft in his chin like Gaston Gaston: As a specimen, yes, I'm intimidating! All: My what a guy, that Gaston! Give five "hurrahs!" Give twelve "hip-hips!" Family enclosure: Gaston is the best And the rest is all drips All: No one fights like Gaston Douses lights like Gaston Back Block 42: In a wrestling match nobody bites like Gaston! Saintettes: For there's no one as burly and brawny Gaston: As you see I've got biceps to spare Kingsland Centre: Not a bit of him's scraggly or scrawny Gaston: That's right! And ev'ry last inch of me's covered with hair All: No one hits like Gaston Matches wits like Gaston Corporates: In a spitting match nobody spits like Gaston Gaston: I'm espcially good at expectorating! Ptoooie! All: Three points for Gaston! Gaston: When I was a lad I ate four dozen eggs Ev'ry morning to help me get large And now that I'm grown I eat five dozen eggs So I'm roughly the size of a barge! All: Oh, ahhh, wow! My what a guy, that Gaston! No one shoots like Gaston Makes those beauts like Gaston Then goes tromping around wearing boots like Gaston Gaston: I use antlers in all of my decorating! All: My what a guy... Gaston!
  21. Seeing as everyone is feeling so miserable this week and could do with a bit of cheering up, I thought it would be a good opportunity to channel our energies into something a little more productive. Therefore I have written a new song for Gaston. It starts off acknowledging his recent difficulties settling in and inconsistent form, then provides a motivational pick-me-up that is sure to get him firing on all cylinders again! I have also animated a music vid to go with it... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PK3x2DOoJIc There's 4 days til the next game - get learning it now!
  22. As evidenced by their current league position, I suppose?
  23. So your fantasy world is 2010?
  24. Oh for a forum that allows chat about not only football, but also music, politics, fashion, or even just to mess around. The good old days! The only criticism I had back then was that it lacked a bit of organisation and it was sometimes a little hard to filter out the genres you didn't want to read about, meaning the footy often got lost amidst discussions of the best sauce to go in fishfinger sandwiches.
