Is it fair to say they've all been historically similar sized clubs and likely perennially competing with them *****il the influx of money into Chelsea and Man City, and of course ignoring Man City's dalliances in the lower leagues).

It does provide a nice jumping off point for the "modern era" tho. It's not like it's only 5 years, it's a full 20 now, which feels about the right sort of length for comparing to history while remaining relevant (as well as still in a lot of people's memories). After all, I'm sure most would agree that the game has moved on so far from the 1920s that it barely merits comparison, so you do need some balance of history vs relevance in making direct comparisons. I'm all for using "Premiership years" in discussions, particularly when comparing general stats, but more because it happens to work out the right amount of time and not due to loyalty to Sky. Of course if some specific relevant thing happened in the 80s (or even before) that merits discussion then that's obviously fair game too.

Oh for a forum that allows chat about not only football, but also music, politics, fashion, or even just to mess around. The good old days!
