We've been spoiled over the years. Yes we've sensibly invested in our academy do rightfully are reaping the benefits, but we should be proud of this fact. Not many youngsters can be instant first teamers like Bale, shaw, AOC to name a few, or look comfortable like mcqueen NZ sims, but we've had a few so must be doing something right. How many clubs have binned off their academy? Bet their fans are jealous of this stat.

Leicester did something fishy like this in their promotion season. Was being investigated, but it's gone quiet since I read this a while back https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/apr/11/leicester-city-finances-football-league-financial-fair-play-investigation

Gary lineker said caulker was too slow on the turn to be top class. Maybe he ain't all that. Cardiff ST holders I know said he went missing whenever they went behind and for the entire second half of the season. Head already thinking about his relegation release clause perhaps.

New song inspired by the Argentinians at the World Cup
gogo_saint replied to gogo_saint's topic in The Saints
Why? The Rickie lambert song had more than 8 words and took a little learning. Yes it was shorter than this one and had a verse of just the word 'la', but proves that our fans aren't as dumb as some like to make out on here. I take your point about the word stewardship though. Couldn't think of a better word, and as it rhymed I stuck it in. -

I did think originally it wasn't worth singing about Pompey at the moment but hey. It's fun to laugh at them. Here's another version. (Still can't get it out if my head) We are the red and white Southampton; Forget, those fish from down the road; Our kids are better than your first team; It's the way it's always going to be; Bobby stokes in 76; For a decade Matt Le Tiss; The saints will always hunt you down... league one to the premiership; Under leibherr stewardship ; The saints are always marching on... Repeat -
Well, stolen from them. This will probably be my first and only attempt at this, but this tune has been in my head for about 4 weeks now so I thought It must be a good one. To the tune of Creedance Clearwater Revival's Bad moon rising, as sung like these guys below: This video is good but confusing as it shows it in three languages so everyone knows that they are better than Brazil. And my version. *anticipates ridicule* We are the red and white Southampton; Koeman's, the leader of The Boys; Up front, we've got Jay-Rod and Pelle; And back, we've got Clyne and Fonte; Wanyama and Davis, Schniederlin and Tadic, Means Lallana/(you're team) will be sucking on our dicks Repeat over and over and over and over

http://www.wokingfc.co.uk/news/article/4535/nicky-banger-joins-the-cards/ Anyone remember him? Despite growing up watching Woking regularly as my nearest team and supporting the saints I can't recall ever seeing him play but I remember the name well. Did anyone here have the pleasure? Good to see him staying in football though.

England World Cup Squad - Lambert, Lallana and Shaw included

http://m.fifa.com/worldcup/news/y=2014/m=5/news=lallana-it-s-happening-so-quickly-2346727.html Fifa article on Lallana. Only posted it as there is no mention of a move and I felt it made a nice change. I read it in fear waiting for that inevitable paragraph at the end but it never came. You lot can read it safe in the knowledge it's all about our captain playing for England. -
Gary Neville? Could be fun...

Well done Gareth Bale! Fantastic to see one of our youth products win such a trophy! Good on him, he must be delighted. Thoroughly deserved for such a hard working and down to earth man. Feel sorry for Atletico, but so chuffed for Bale. Maybe more British players will consider moving abroad? Anyone know if any other saints have gone on to win the European cup?
-
Very proud to say he came through our youth ranks!

Would take Sinclair for the reported £3m, be interested to see if rodwell was available and put in a bid for Redmond. What are the chances of winston Reid from west ham? Is he better than fonte? Certainly an upgrade on jos. Be happy with either of swansea's LB's as back up to shaw. That leaves the vital striker to replace osvaldo... No idea. Also, I wonder if Ralph will try to maximise commercial opportunities and sign the best players from any far off untapped markets? Who's the best Chinese player at the moment?
-
I agree with what you're saying, we did it in the summer to an extent, but we could improve the overall quality of the squad with some lesser names too. I'd take players like Shaun Maloney, Nathan Redmond, Callum McManaman or Nathan Dyer. Anyone of these on the bench on Saturday would have been useful I think.
-
Would completely agree. Though IF we'd scored in the first half we probably would've won comfortably. After 55mins it was obvious we weren't gonna score and there was nothing on the bench which would have changed my mind on that. Would like to see some more young attackers on the bench to try and win games rather than 2 sub centre backs next time. McQueen or Rowe or Sinclair? Couldn't hurt. Our squad isn't big enough/good enough/ needs 5 years to mature / to cope without more than 2 of our first team at present IMO. Oh well, still a remarkably good season, rather this than a relegation dogfight! Poor Cardiff fans here are dreaming of survival now. It's the hope their feeling this week that will make it hurt so much more when they go down.

why would anyone pay £5 for this?

Should saints break the bank in the summer for a striker ?
gogo_saint replied to killer fan's topic in The Saints
First choice would be Lukaku but thing we have no chance. Next best thing would be Benteke but again I don't think we'd get him. Would certainly bid for Hernandez. I would bid for all of these, but doubt we'd get any of them. Same goes for Michu. Not many players who fit our bill and would be available. Time to pull out a gem from left field. -
Really interesting, thanks for posting that. Very reassuring and makes for very positive and pleasing reading. I don't think our youngsters would gain anything playing in a B team in conference football or below. Inwould even say the same about league two. The pitches alone aren't condusive to passing the ball for the winter months and you're relying on other managers and coaches too much. Can see it working for some players though, and hopefully mayuka's loan spell will help him. However, I have to say whatever we're doing at the moment - let's keep doing it. We're on a very very good run of producing talent currently and long may it continue. He clearly knows what he's doing. Very happy.
-
Actually smug, Lahm had played as a defensive midfielder for most of this season. He's a better LB than shaw though. Asks us in 5 years and could be a different answer.
-
David Gill or David Dein would be perfect! Probably a bit out of reach though.
-
He chose: Kelvin Clyne Fonte Lovren Fox Oxlade-Chamberlain Schneiderlin Idiakez Bale Lambert Walcott A couple of surprises there

http://www.thefa.com/news/the-fa-cup/2014/jan/fa-cup-fourth-round-draw-numbers The family theme for this season’s FA Cup with Budweiser continues on Sunday when Martin and Paul Allen make the Fourth Round draw at Wembley. These two up to scratch for you?
