While I imagine there are dumber things to do than nuking the country next to you in terms of keeping your own population onside but not many. Can you imagine the panic in the Russian border regions?

In a relatively short amount of time (30 years or so) slavic Russians will be outnumbered in Russia by minorities (particularly Muslim ethnic minorities). Putin is well aware of this demographic “crisis” and it has been a matter on which he has spoken repeatedly. I feel like the Moscow elite consider the minority citizens as not only expendable but in fact see benefits to reducing their population numbers.

Apparently they have knocked out power to a good portion of Ukraine by targeting power plants. Hardly military infrastructure.

The biggest risk that I playing armchair general see at the moment is Ukraine advancing too far and too fast stretching their logistical lines. Russia in theory can consolidate and defend in depth rather than being so overstretched. There are worse problems to have as the Ukrainian military though I guess.

In terms of London Bridge her death is blacked out and announced at 6pm so maybe.

Our new prime minister intends to freeze energy prices which economists are saying will drop inflation back to 2% and shorten the expected recession. It will cost an eye watering 131bi of taxpayer funding though. At least it is a plan which is more than we have had for the last few months.

So with the latest news from Russia that gas supply will only resume after sanctions are revoked the price of gas has jumped another 30%. I know that this is a crisis of Europe’s own making given that there were warnings about Russian dependence for years but bloody hell the politicians have cocked up. There’s no more wiggle room for the common man.

The problem is that every single time stronger sanctions are tried they are reduced on appeal. I can’t remember a single case where it was upheld.

I would NEVER think of telling someone what to do but… don’t do that mate I beg you, we are hardly in a position to crow at Leicester who won the prem a couple of years ago.
