In case anyone has missed it, the Saints Radio forum is on Solent Live tonight from 7pm - available on FM and live online. You can turn up at the Mike Channon Suite from 6pm (no ticket required, no charge - but max 500 people). Solent are now asking for questions - solent.sport@bbc.co.uk I've sent one concerning the continual absence of Gillett and why we can't seem to take a corner properly (unless Mills takes them). Fill your boots guys and gals..

Yep before Lallana took it back off him and floated the next one straight to their keeper. Someone needs to have a word.

Even at quarter to six there were coppers with dogs at the station - heavy presence on the platforms as well. TBH some right tossers (Yeovil) were getting on my train back to Lymington - one middle aged git barged on the train before people had got off, past OAP's and people with kids - why? To get a table. Another's kid walked into our carriage with his Yeovil shirt on only for his dad to shout - 'Don't go in there - they're all divers' - in Worzelesque tone. Pathetic. As far as the Alfred is concerned, the same thing happened at the Brentford game - I think to be honest the source of the problem is the club no longer keeping the away team fans in after. Now they get out the same time to mingle and provoke - the Brentford lot were after a punch up from the time they were walking up the steps over the walkway towards Northam Rd. TBF our fans ignored them. Until they carried on by the Alfred. BTW, there was one bloke carried into an ambulance at Northam Rd Xroads - don't know if he was the Yeovil one or not. I think we're getting more of this now because half these teams just want to put one over on us (footballing wise) and some idiots think the same about fighting. All very 80's - just do it on a bit of wasteland away from everyone else - beat the sh1te out of each other if you like, but it's a problem we don't need at our club. It ain't Saintly.

Lawrie Mac's Centre For Football Research
Channon's Sideburns replied to Gemmel's topic in The Saints
I think sometimes perhaps those after dinner speeches probably do grate. It depends I guess on who you are speaking to - at the one I was at, it was full of yachties, some of which preferred to talk about how wonderful Chelski were...I was sat there thinking 'Fook me, you invite a guy who has been involved in local and national footie, and you talk just about Chelski?' So I got a question in about how they kept the Keegan signing quiet - the funniest thing ever, Lawrie looked happy as Larry that someone had asked about Saints - even Leon gave me a wry smirk. This was a few days after we'd gone into Admin. Half the people there had no idea we'd ever signed Keegan. Priceless. I just thought..there you go, stick your big spending Chelski up your ar$e. I'm Saints and proud of it. Good times! -

Have to disagree. Approached him after a charity event in Lymington, during a conversation and he couldn't have been nicer. Came across once he'd finished with the others and spent 15mins talking to my family about Saints and the old days. You take as you find - not a problem in my book. -
Shearer and Keegan were keen-MLT

I think he realises now what a mistake it was to get involved - unfortunately what we are hearing now is just digging the trench deeper and deeper. -
They've dropped some of the corporate prices though. You can now go into the Channon Suite (sorry now Bar) for £50 +VAT (used to be £99 + VAT). Price includes 'superior' seat, buffet, programme and player interview, plus suite host. No more sitting down or inclusive drinks (that's where the savings are) but I think that's cracking value for a special occasion.

I think it was more like this, especially against Liverpool (4-1) Flowers Dodd Ruddock Osman Benali ****erill Case Wallace Rideout Shearer Le Tiss Granted we did play 4-3-3 with Shearer and Ruddock coming on to change games (think Barry Horne was then the third midfielder a lot of the time) - but WHEN we tore teams apart it was 4-2-4.

Like the way in the Express that the Scots FA had a dilemma because they didn't want to pay the money to pay him off and get rid. Unfortunately no-one wanted to pay compensation to take him off their hands. Sounds familiar..

The Director of Football Contradiction?
Channon's Sideburns replied to trousers's topic in The Saints
I guess there's a myriad of options. Either as Cortese has also said, he's happy covering the role in the meantime... or, it could be (with my cynic head on ala Worzel) he's not 100% convineed about Pardew and is holding off bringing someone in for that reason - after all, why bring someone in who gets on with AP, but may not get on with someone else. TBF we've done ok player wise with NC pulling the strings so far. -
Yep very true, the days of having quality wingers like Le Tiss and Rod Wallace seem an age away... Chris Nicholl wasn't that bad was he? ;-) ---- 4-2-4 the formation of guts.
-
Agree wholeheartedly with that, I think as fans we suffer and remain negative at times because it been so FRIGGIN long since a Saints side played like that.
-
I think it's fair to summarise that Mr Lallana is the footballing equivalent of Marmite.
-
It made my mind up during the summer when they teased all day about live coverage of Fry's Press Conference - went to it, then cut it short only to return to that daft bint who presents in the afternoon. Saints get taken over after lengthy admin, and we get pulled off air for....wait for it.... 'In a minute, I'll be talking to Bella Emberg about her career in comedy, before that over to Doris who has just had her cat neutered..' You couldn't make it up - yes Radio Solent - the FIRST for Sport in the South. Thanks guys.
-
Careful Trousers ;-) *conspiracy alert* (I happen to think you could be right, but let's be careful and patient for now).
-
What was it Tarby used to say in Winner Takes All? 'Difference of opinion' - that's all. I'm not saying he is as good as him NOW for a million years but if he ended up at Arsenal he COULD be another Fabregas. How many other players in our squad REGULARLY get picked by their national coach? Saga? All of our other players that have played more than 10 minutes this season (apart from Davis,Trotman and Lambert who are clearly CCC standard) are League 1 standard only - until they get us out of this league that feeling will not change.
-
..and a REGULAR for his country as well at his age level. In time it will probably be proved that Lowe did at least three things right: 1. Signing Niemi 2. Signing Schneiderlin 3. Leaving the first time. Everything else could have been done better by others.
-
Alps..be careful, you'll be accused of holding a vendetta if you're not careful ;-) For me, Schneiderlin could do well in the Prem. Even by the shots he was taking against Millwall - he definitely has the talent, strength and ball control to succeed. I bet it hasn't turned out how he thought it would either.
-
TBH I can't see it coming to that. Regardless of what anyone feels is a decent timescale on here, it's down to Cortese and Markus to decide how long he's got. If they are not happy with progress, we'll see a change made, I'm certain of that. They didn't invest that money in trying to repair this club to go further backwards. Yes we have a new team in parts, but many who have been here for a while are still on board - so there's that excuse out of the window. The reality of it is that we are on -5 (yes, MINUS 5) and at the moment even without the points deduction we would be bottom three. That's not acceptable is it? - that's why we need a good win this Saturday. Something to bring some positivity and bigger crowds back.
-
To be honest we only need to look at our colleagues in League 2 down the road to see what can be achieved. Bournemouth have spent NO money, brought NO players in and yet sit top of the table. It's all about spirit, fight, belief and the right players in the right positions - when you have limited options it focusses the minds. THAT'S the attitude we need - NO MORE EXCUSES. We have had plenty of that in the past thank you very much. Shape up or ship out.
-
I think to be honest had Solent not made such a fuss before about having proper Sports Updates at 20 past the hour in the afternoons we wouldn't have an issue. During the summer they dropped these, and guess what they haven't come back. I sense the feeling that since we now have a 'professional' team running the club, Solent don't get heads up on rumours and therefore aren't so interested anymore. That may be incorrect but it certainly feels that way - Solent aren't as committed to Sport Coverage as they once were - remember when the Sports on Saturday started at 1pm with a PROPER BUILD-UP instead of 2pm? 'Talking Balls' indeed. Bally's bit was brilliant. Controversial at times, but brilliant. Miss you Bally.
-
I know we've questioned Wilde's judgement in the past..but that's a step too far Mikey...what size Umbro shirt would she need???? Seriously, saw Boyle in the Bournemouth friendly, I thought he did ok.
-
Agreed - unfortunately because I mentioned the events of this summer (Wotte etc) in one of my posts it allowed others to berate me on that point rather than accepting that I held a different view to theirs re: his performances. I wish I could have put it as succinctly as Derry above - what has been typed there is a fantastic synopsis of my thoughts. Can we end the accusations of 'vendettas' now please?
-
I happen to think that corners are very important - not only do we finally have the height to pick up goals from them, but when we commit defenders to attack the corners, it risks a counter-attack if we can't deliver them to the right players...e.g the ones in red and white stripes.
-
All that is true Nick, but we can't get away from the fact he spent £7M + on players and did next on nothing with them. Even though we're bottom - Pards has only spent around £1.5M - and we look more of a unit now than we did then.
