Did I see on another thread that Pardew was being paid £500k pa? Based on record, Adkins should be worth a similar amount - but I'd hazard a guess at £300k basic + hefty bonuses based on league position. Poor old Jan....remember his £50k??? Mind you, I'd do the job for £45k....

Cortese, rightly or wrongly in the players' eyes, is paid to run the club as a business. He's not there to be their 'best mate'. The players are paid to put in 100% effort for their club. If they think he's a 'dickhead' there's every chance he's doing things the right way. The fact they think that whilst putting in 50-60%speaks volumes.

TBF to Cortese Merrington was ranting about Les Reed's role BEFORE Cortese found Adam Blackmore. There's possibly your reason. Also, another reason why Cortese doesn't like the 'old guard' - too quick to spout off with no thought of the consequences. I love Dave Merrington, but he needs to back up his words with evidence - how's Asturius Dave? Or did MLT preach it as gospel?

TBH if what Cortese said the other night to ST holders was right, then the whole trip to Switzerland was not taken seriously by Pardew et al. Now whether this trip consisted of a jolly (hence NC's comment to AP about 'drinking buddies') or not is a matter of conjecture. What I know is this, we look less prepared for the season than ever before. There are so many comparisons to the end of Burley's tenure it's unreal - a manager who blames everyone but himself for results, bizarre substitutions (when they finally happen) and rumours of fall-outs with players (for Player X read Skacel/Rasiak). We're in the sh1t - but THAT DOES NOT MEAN THE PLAYERS ARE ABSOLVED OF RESPONSIBILITY. Pull your fricking fingers out, get to training and work your arses off. THAT'S THE LEAST YOU CAN DO.
