    Coronavirus

I'm not a Labour voter but there are large volumes of images in the public domain of Savile with Tory campaign buses, with Thatcher who he was a close advisor to. In the 1980s, he was given all manner of accesses to public facilities he shouldn't have been. I'd quit whilst you aren't too embarrassed on this point.

Costco are a bit more like Makro. Netto tried in the U.K. market late 90s/early 2000s, there was one in West End for a while. Didn’t last and ALDI/LIDL had a bit more staying power.

Agree with this. China needs to clean up its act on the wet markets which are abhorrent but that can be dealt with internationally once COVID is under control. What Trump is doing is pure nationalism and xenophobia which is a fig leaf for the real issues his administration and indeed Obama’s had with the Chinese which includes the hundreds of billion dollars of IP violations. I’ve no time whatsoever for the Chinese government and it was great watching HK giving them a bloody nose. The issue is that Trump is knowingly stirring up the far right, and very specifically Neo Nazi elements in his fanbase against measures to protect the majority in that state. You can see it in Michigan. People will moan that I’ve used the term far right but have a look at the photos of the people threatening state troopers and legislature with guns, elected by the people of Michigan. A Neo Nazi is a Neo Nazi and we saw him do it in Charlottesville. The fact this is pure electioneering, and the judges are calling it out as that, is just revolting. The Republican Party is going to need a huge clear up after Agent Orange has dropped off his senile perch.
  4. Nor George W Bush but then no-one would expect either of those two to win anything after the Iraq debacle. On the other hand, GW-B got lambasted (rightly at times) for saying and doing some stupid things but I don't think there was anything that could get into the top of 10 of utter idiocy Trump has come out of with. Even given Iraq, Hurrican Katrina response and any number of other disasters under his time in office, GW-B's time as President actually looks competent by comparison. Just look at the turnover of key staff, some of them every few weeks in post. It's like Paul Gascoigne being elected as Prime Minister during his playing days, let alone now. As Whelk said, the upside is that the type of people who actually vote for him wouldn't be able to work out to get the safety cap off.
  5. Brilliant! GM -is Agent Orange still on for his Nobel Prize?

The Liverpool v Atletico CL game is also being investigated in terms of a resulting spike of cases in Liverpool. Madrid was one of worst hit areas globally for new cases. UEFA taking some flak.

    Coronavirus

I suspect it's two things. Firstly, many may have indicated that they don't want to do direct patient-facing work at the hospitals/Nightingale units, so that means there's only so much of other assistance to be doing. Secondly, people are just looking at this now and there's a debate regionally about provision but actually we don't know enough about this virus yet. Just say you can get it again, and although much of the economy has re-opened to some extent and we crack the PPE issue (without Trump gazumping us with the Chinese/Turkish - 'America First' remember) then we get into the autumn with large numbers still getting it/re-infections and winter pressures start again. Suddenly hospitals which have been OK on capacity aren't any longer, the Nightingales which were mothballed say next month are launched and more people needed to equip them/move equipment and people and welcome returning clinical people before they recieve patients = volunteers.

    Coronavirus

I see Brazil’s PM has joined his fellow populist lunatic Trump in organising his brainwashed idiots to organise protests against state governors trying to limit the spread and help their health services. Whatever I think of our politicians at times, it could be far worse governed by psychopaths like that
  9. I think he means Crouch's stupid sending off at Palace which ruled him out last day against MU. Mind you, scoring goals wasn't the problem that season - we had Beattie, Phillips, Crouch and Camara at various points scoring - but the appalling defence. I mean it was worse than the current one and that's going some. Jakobsson made Vestergaard look like Bobby Moore and Olivier Bernard made Bertrand even on one of Ryan's off games look like Roberto Carlos. As for Callum Davenport...worst player I've ever seen in the first team at SFC, you could see the dread in the rest of the side when he appeared.
  10. Millions, or rather billions is the problem. Their political system is like a political version of Football Manager with the editor on for 1% of the entire population and even some of those would be priced out. You wouldn't have the daughter of a greengrocer, son of a bus driver or single parent going for the Presidency there. The pool, not only for political leaders, but in their national media as well, is so tiny and partisan so no surprise the discourse is so narrow and stale. Talk of draining the swamp is an ironic joke - Trump was from a different part of the swamp but firmly part of the swamp. As are the Clintons et al. Sanders is from a part of the electorate that would never win there and is reminiscent of Corbyn in some ways with more savvy. Biden is 25 years past his sell by date but has the connections to compete financially. To think the Americans used to call Britain elitist as well.
  11. If you’ve read Dixon’s book it’s a surprise he could even get on the pitch, seemed to be in a mess for a few years. The Milton were singing Deadly Dixon Donkey Dowie but that song changed around within a few weeks. Speedie v Boro, some Saints fans were so outraged at the lack of effort that a few in the lower East tried to get on the pitch to remove him as Branfoot seemed incapable of doing so. Dixon and Speedie outscore Shearer? Mind you, Guido Carrillo underlines why Pellegrino achieved the impossible and toppled Branfoot as the worst ever manager in living memory. The Wigan game looked like a trialist from Bashley or Dorchester had snuck on so poor was the movement, first touch and lack of joining up with the play. Unlike at WBA, he was even not convincing in the air. Monaco must still laugh, we can only hope it was only £20m over many appearances he will never make. Ali Dia actually looked better v Leeds who genuinely was Southern League Level but could vaguely run although really couldn’t trap a bag of cement. Someone mentioned Frankie Bennett - he really did clear the family centre upper level in the Milton terrace with one shot on goal. For all of the MLTs, Bales, Manes, Channons, Shearers, Keegans, Lamberts etc we’ve seen some turd that belies belief.
  12. If I’m allowed to go further back where players were still in their prime (and still around in once case) I’d have Shilts Bally - you can’t not have the player described as one of the best one touch footballers ever in 5 a side Mark Wright (VVD was a bridge too far) MLT Mane

I am as well, we had another family, London again, who were caught by the local police going for a fishing trip to Torquay, not too far from here. We want people to visit, but not right now. All of the Police forces, tourism bodies and government have been pretty clear.
  14. Not enough loan money has churned through the club yet clearly to sources he can access. It will feel like SFC again when he has gone although dread to think what mess he will leave behind.
  15. Sorry, typo, meant clean it out, all of the scouting and back room team, get rid of Kreuger/Reed stuff and Ralph have his own team
  16. Not surprised. Will be interesting to see if the market is more muted overall. Top priority is moving Gao on and achieving new ownership. Clean the club again, unite the fanbase, fresh start. Hope we keep Ralph, best manager we could have in the circumstances.
  17. He’s now fired the independent official tasked with spending the federal US bailout. Has also been firing senior naval officers raising COVID according to the NY Times. As for Fox News, their presenters and stories make a David Icke YouTube webinar look sane. The same people watch it, vote for Trump are the same type of IQ level as the idiots setting fire to 5G masts in this country. Would swallow anything they were told if it fits their nutty worldview.
  18. The papers circulations are all going down the plug hole so they feel the need to shout louder. Unfortunately as with all sectors, less income reduces the calibre of the staff - journalists are no different. I’ve stopped watching the briefings because of it - you can see the bewildering expressions of some of the politicians and experts as well at the poor Qs being asked. Raab as Deputy PM steps in until Boris is better - as it looks as if he will eventually will be. Same as if Blair had ever got ill, Prescott would have done the same. Not sure what the journos can’t comprehend. Heard the nuclear button question - idiocy. Virtually every nation in the world, and all of those with the bombs, are either in lockdown or close to it. Going forward, all we need is two right wing ish papers, two left and one in the middle. TV news is fully independent and has to be anyway. Quality not quantity. The Mirror Group buying out Desmond was just the start
  19. Quite. Brm Brm comments rightly condemned as they are vile but shame on a (very) small minority on the other wing for trying to score points out of them. Hopefully Corbyn being deposed and this crisis weakening the far right will lead to an improvement in the public discourse so the extremists crawl back under their pre 2010 rocks. Also QT audiences having a far smaller presence from Momentum/UKIP/BNP or whatever Robinson’s group is called would help. Frankly, whilst I can’t stand say Len McCluskey or Mark Francois, I would still want them to survive this virus as badly as Boris has because they are fellow humans. Not ones I like but still basic respect and care.
  20. Gordon Taylor and his annual wage has been a key issue IMO all along - time for the press to finally force him to go with some help from the clubs and PL. I get the impression many of players are not happy with the PFA tactics and it’s all a smokescreen to protect him making a fortune. The PFA has been a blight on the game along with agents for many years.
  21. Man City 1 QPR 1 - Sinton scored a 25 yarder for the equaliser. David White IIRC got the opener first half
  22. The PL is not coming out of this well - although Ashley is a league of his own. There are players overseas trying to help at elite levels eg Bundesliga and some of the clubs have helped key workers with accommodation eg Chelsea but the PFA should be stepping up to the plate to at least ensure the lower leagues are able to survive, and it really wouldn’t be noticed much in PL players’ wage packets.

    Coronavirus

Yes, I agree. Although we all need to be patient on the data; if it stabilises after a week or more, we will know the social distancing measures are having an affect. The measures will she in place for a long time yet though. The more time we can buy, the better the health service can manage. In the summer, although we know the virus isn’t killed by heat, only cleaning, the fatality rates might fall proportionally due to reduced risk from additional complications. The alternative breathing technology developed by one of the big London universities and F1 could help fill the ventilator gap too. So some signs of optimism but some very dark days to come too. The news about the 13 year old is awful.
  24. Which I could understand was it not for the fact that at this very moment a 13 year old has died of it, a 21 girl with no underlying conditions who was seemingly fit and healthy died last week of covid-19. If other people want to share his views, that’s up to them but thankfully they seem to be a minority although I don’t doubt there are some - actually I know there are. Would like to see him explain them to the parents of those without known underlying conditions dying young. It’s also rubbish what he said about the NHS capacity. Trouble is Hypo, this isn’t just the flu and you can have a 90 year old survive and it kills a fit 30 year old.
