  1. One of the Spurs songs was predictable but the other one was going a bit far. That said, Pompey can't really complain after some of the stuff Dave Jones copped when he was at Wolves from their fans - particularly after Rix had been their manager. I still say the worst song I've ever heard was from Leeds at the Dell in the mid-90s at a midweek game. Their fans were steaming drunk and sang their notorious "Munich Air Disaster" song at full volume and it's a real sickener. So drunk were some of the Leeds fans that they were urinating at the back of the East Stand upper tier at half-time and it was running down onto their own fans below (The Dell was never reknowned for it's plentiful toilets).
  2. I live on Hayling mate (originally from Woolston) and I drive to games so send me a pm if you want to go to a game and I'm about (ie not holed up in a conference or out of the area for work)
  3. Good post buddy, debate is healthy and good but some of the posts and threads on here - particularly the bi-polar one, are not on and the mods need to pull them a lot faster although mods do have a tough job I admit. One of my mate's ex-girlfriends has bi-polar disorder and whoever started that thread is a moron of the highest order. I usually like GM's posts as well - very informative and funny but even he made a pillock of himself with the comparison to WWII.
  4. You have to say he was poor in 06/07 Nick, it wasn't just the QPR blooper but also Preston home and also he got banned at a critical time by kicking an opposing player up the arse. Admittedly, the Sunderland fans gave him a very bad rap on S4E at the time but he was in and out of the side. He had a horror show at Hillsborough last season and that's been a watershed for Kelvin, he's played well ever since and this season has looked the keeper he was at Ipswich. His second half saves V Blackpool were up there with Antti at his best and possibly even Shilts for the fans like us over 30. If there was a poll for player of the season now, Kelvin would walk it despite some promise from Lallana. Us fans are fickle - Dowie also took fearful flak but won us over, helped by a super finish over a title-challenging Villa side. Crouch is another example although the planks in the Northam stand who booed him (and Fuller) initially need their heads examining.

    Pekhart

Credit to JP, the shape was better although BWP still doesn't convince me as a winger. He's only really looked the business as a sub in 06/07 but was unlucky to hit the woodwork last night.

    Roeder

Sod him, we've had enough rough decisions over the years from refs. Anyway, I think Stefanovic swore directly at the ref - "you c-nt" for example - which only ever means a red card. Unless of course you are Wayne Rooney.
  7. This is just football fans reverting to type, look at the Norwich fans on the "made me laugh" thread on here today. Yes, great to get 2 wins and I was there last night (Kelvin was superb again), well done to the lads but we still need a takeover to keep Lallana, Surman et al and you can't escape that I'm afraid sonny. A credit to the lads though that they've turned it around after the Rotherham debacle and are now above parachute teams in Charlton (who are heading rapidly for similar problems to us) and Derby.
  8. Crikey - a sensible takeover thread! Whatever next?
  9. Good to see another bar at Ocean Village, hope it does the usual range of good real ale. Then again, it might be more like a Lloyds No 1 given the waterside location. Soton has a fair few JDWs now - this new one, Standing Order, Giddy Bridge, Moon Under Water (Shirley). If JDW had ever built the planned pub in Portswood for the student market that would have been five in one city!
  10. It's a better-looking team and 4-4-2 is the best system for Saints. Mills is making a difference at LB. Keep Cork in CM too JP and stay with 2-up please. Ta.
  11. The position where Cork won player of the season at S****horpe and was excellent Vs Saints @ SMS last season. I'd keep him there but wish we'd swapped Dyer for a full-back.
  12. Hope we beat Notts and Durham beat Kent. Adams is a tosser at Sussex but I'll never forget how Kent just gave up Vs Notts and handed Notts the title 3 or 4 years ago. Warne has certainly never forgotten it and a fired up Hants thumped Notts by an innings and plenty in the final game at the Rose Bowl. Kent and Sussex are battling it out to stay up IMO. Durham would be worthy champs.
  13. Agatha Christie.
  14. Not sure "fun" would be my choice of adjective to be honest! I mean I do have a giggle at Scooby even though he's a skate as he is quite deadpan but Sundance is just consistently offensive and not in a funny way anymore although he had his moments at first. When GM and Alpine get going it's entertaining but at least they can both take some back, Sundance doesn't seem to be able to. I still reckon he's a skate on a wind-up, I just find Scooby funnier.
  15. Or Linford Christie..
  16. Agreed from the first-half crosses from Holmes, if JP had started John we'd have scored at least 1. Pekhart has already scored though and his pedigree is terrific. Perhaps JP's system is at fault here as much as the personnel?
  17. I think we'll be in administration before XMAS and I've heard possibly even before the end of November. The Askham era of politics and infighting is going to collapse soon and let's hope that the FL don't hit us with further penalties. I also hope that we have a strong administrator that will ensure that another Secure Retirement shower doesn't get to buy what is left.
  18. Rupert Lowe July 08: " Jan Poortvliet and Mark Wotte are very excited about what will be a young dynamic team determined to play fast and attractive football." He can't PR spin it now. Reality has finally hit home - perfect reply from another poster. Askham, Wilde and Lowe have never backed SFC - well barring clearing a £3m overdraft 12 years ago. There's nothing left to get behind unless there is a total change of ownership as far as a lot of fans are concerned and Lowe's boys on here can whine and moan but the gates speak for themselves. People have no confidence left in the old guard, time to give up their shares and go.
  19. 2-1 to Doncaster.
  20. Lowe did some hard bargaining when other clubs were skint - ie Derby circa 2002/3 and let's face it we all, me included, approved. Now the tables have turned and clubs know Barclays run the show.
  21. You've probably read the board's mind Foxy, two problems assuming that you are right though: 1) Stern is the only player in the squad with a proven CCC goal record 2) Who is going to want BWP? I'm talking at full-time, professional level. Not even Bournemouth would and they are even more up sh-t creek than we are!
  22. Yes but look at what Dave contributed to SFC. Yes, he's a bit older than us and that comes across sadly but he's got more passion for this club than the last few boards have ever had. He also helped to bring through another generation at Leeds and was only made manager because Askham had buggered up and couldn't afford anyone else - I was told by a source close to Dave that he never wanted the job in the first place. LM ran the show anyway. He kept us in the PL on 15k gates for a season - no mean feat for someone not suited to the job. Compare that to Wilde or Askham. I'll exclude Lowe as Lowe has done some good things for SFC although he's been past his sell-by-date since 2003/4.
  23. He must have a lot in common with Rupert and Mike then GM....
  24. Best post of the thread as ever from FC although I disagree that Lowe won't be bothered by the slumping attendances, I think the bank will be seeing that as a total vote of no-confidence from the fans. By the way GM, my grandfather was a POW on the Burma Railway and a lifelong Saints fan (and a steward for many years too) and he'd definately want these cvunts (Askham,Wilde,Richards,Lowe) out of SFC if he was still alive.
  25. The fans certainly are OSM. We've now got a huge surplus of - Lallana and Davis apart -average (being generous) players, albeit younger, just like we had in 04/05 and we all know what happened. Is this lad going to be better than Patterson? Doubt it. What's the point of signing other club's youngsters and blocking our own? Is this Rupert's way of admitting our lads aren't cutting it at CCC level? Or are they not being given the chance because the "strategy" isn't being followed by the board?
