It’s been brewing since Nixon’s Southern Strategy of the early 1970s eg get the racist Democrats in the south voting for the Republicans and rev them up on inter-racial busing initially. Since 1973 and Roe Vs Wade abortion has been another rallying point for the lunatics in the Evangelical Conservative movement with whackos like Pat Robertson and the rise of large scale direct mail campaigning pre internet. Of course these people and their descendants are voting Trump in huge numbers along with the alt/far right which has ballooned in the last decade. I can’t see either the NE states, Washington, more modern South/Midwest or West Coast states following it, it’ll be the hard right states like Florida, Texas, Mississippi, Virginia who slavishly follow this. Florida has been a far right authoritarian state for a while now with very conservative censorship and electoral restrictions, the Governor controlling Florida State University’s academic appointments being the latest overreach. A lot of the skilled people I know in Florida are getting jobs in democratic states north and west and escaping. They will lap this ruling up the Florida Republicans, especially the Americans Cubans who are the worst in Florida for being extremist. Biden might be last President that rules the whole country, Trump has divided it so badly I can only see hefty devolution amongst the states keeping the US together otherwise it could go up in flames. Might be a good opportunity for the states more aligned with western civilisation to curb the NRA, put proper universal healthcare in place and push their educational systems ahead. Let the Republican-dominated states die on their arse like Detroit did at one stage.

I can’t remember much before that goal, possibly it was 1-0 Saints and 2-1 to them, Paul Dickov possibly getting a rare goal for them. Will have to look it up. It was a weird game in a weird atmosphere, muted celebrations even for the goals. I think the fans knew trouble was brewing behind the scenes with Sturrock then Wigley.

Yes it was. Went back his sailing instruction business on Lake Windermere after he finished playing and then got drawn back into managing and coaching. Not sure what he is up to now.

The Tories are screwed. SW turning yellow again (delighted as a Lib Dem voter), Red Wall rebuilt brick by brick and their traditional SE seats alienated by a catastrophic hard Brexit costing thousands of jobs and harming living standards. East Anglia will vote for them regardless but tricky for them to win anywhere else. If Tiverton and N Shropshire, with huge Tory majorities can go, any other rural seats could. Delighted to see the return of tactical voting as well after a long absence. They are a corrupt populist rabble, worst in living memory and the sort of government we’d malign if it was in the global south as the inevitable product of an unstable and poor country. Disgrace for the western world. Large numbers on food banks, people earning north of £30k needing two jobs to heat and eat. Some of it is Ukraine and pandemic but a lot is also self inflicted by cheap and nasty nationalism. Even if the 1922 is in action again in 12 months to oust him, damage is done. -
I remember that game, we were 2-1 down in a weird atmosphere as lots of rumours Sturrock might be sacked beforehand. Friend I was sitting shouted ‘hit it’ which echoed around the Kingsland North as it left his boot and it flew in. Mix of cheers and laughter! IIRC wasnt this Andy D’Urso’s watershed as a PL referee - booked Barry Ferguson twice and no sending off and the laughable penalty decision when Short leaned over Beattie with no appeals? Bet Blackburn weren’t laughing although by May they were as we went down. As for Anders, had some great games, not least the Leeds goal in a 3-2 win 2003/4, but it was either him/Oakley for me. Would suit the current side well, at his best when paired with stronger physical engines around him eg Tessem, Telfer, Delap.

It’ll be Jan going, has been linked with Roma and Napoli for good money and has seemingly wanted a change for a while.

Grant Schapps/Michael Green doesn’t feel the government should broker - another way of sewing the seeds of culture war. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-61854567 Not that someone like him would ever need to use trains https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2015/mar/15/grant-shapps-admits-he-had-second-job-as-millioniare-web-marketer-while-mp Fine if he wants to do that but his constituents had housing and other pressing concerns whilst he was channelling his inner Harry Enfield character:

I was at the Dell for that one. MLT was so shocked that he blasted the rebound over. Keane strolled through our midfield and Hurlock like they weren’t there, an also ageing Glenda improved things second half. Belting volley from MLT ironically second half. All season people thought Forest would get out of it but couldn’t score after Sheringham sold in August (after scoring the first live TV PL goal) and only Rosario came in before the March deadline. Here’s the Nottingham local paper thread - mostly good humour involved but we have our share of planks like every fanbase https://www.nottinghampost.com/sport/football/football-news/southampton-fans-pile-nottingham-forest-7223497

Maggie did a bit more than that. Do put more effort into your trolling Jamie, this is too easy. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/revealed-jimmy-savile-s-close-friendship-with-margaret-thatcher-8432351.html -
Bednarek will be the one leaving, linked with Roma and Napoli. Hasn’t had a good couple of years for Saints but has clearly wanted to move on and a fresh challenge will do him good. Left footed CB, Poland regular and only 26, should get £15m. Hasn’t been the same since Ralph played him at RB when the club/Gao were too stingy to bring in cover for KWP when he was injured. Jack is OK for cover but Lyanco was a bit of brainless purchase if they’d already given Jack 4 years in 2020 as fourth choice and not publicised it. No wonder Crocker seems to back more on academy duties.
-
Dreadful - like Saints of March to May 2022 but with white shirts. Sideways, backwards, no attempt to draw them out. Hungary have executed a counter-attacking approach perfectly and we’d love to see that calibre of finishing at SMS. Outclassed over the two games. And it’s four, cut through so easily again. I thought he might survive a 2-0, maybe a 3 but not 4-0 at home. Wolves crowd not shy of saying what they think. Would be expensive to sack him but hard to recover from. Joke sending off but it was over well before then. Judging by the revival of the cricket team, the football side need to find their own Brendan McCullum to wake them up and lift the shackles.

If the club could get close to the fee back for Diallo, O’Brien at Hudds has a £12m release fee apparently although linked with nearby Leeds for ages. Hardly used Diallo last term so with Svanberg that would effectively be two new CMs. Engine room choices of those two, JWP and Romeu sound a bit more PL standard on paper at least.

Underlined by him and the equally thick Truss ripping up his own ‘oven ready’ deal. The easiest in history so we were told after the referendum. It couldn’t be that Boris is a lying cunt who just wants to suck up to his more swivel eyed backbenchers and the DUP surely? The FT reporting that many more backbenchers very concerned at inflaming the NI issues and international reputation https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-northern-ireland-61779169 -
Trump and Republican supporters arrested before they caused trouble at a pride March in the NW. Most had travelled several states to get involved. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-61773358

Maybe, but definitely only as a one year loan. Villa can keep the risk for year two. Saints are run by such wallies they will probably buy him back and he does his ACL again first game. Villa need to move him on and I don’t think Brighton would buy him so let’s play hardball. He only wanted to stay for one contract, loan might help both parties but let’s be professional about it unlike the fuck ups with Theo, Long etc. Professional football club and club interests very much first please, it’s not a social club for Crocker, Ralph and Semmens.

Knew most of that and quite a few people who have worked for him. Or rather did his work whilst he loafed and bumbled around. Fortunately by the top I studied at another top university 10 years after as first in my immediate family to attend his kind of behaviour was less common but when you hear about the ‘pleb baiting’ etc anyone in a Red Wall seat from a working class background who voted for him in 2019 should be embarrassed. Total disregard for themselves and their own communities. Corbyn is a twat but then don’t vote at all, realise they couldn’t vote Lib Dem because of ‘their’ Brexit, even though most of them didn’t understand what it meant. And Boris’s red bus NHS lie was part of that as well. Apparently they feel let down now but most of this information was in plain sight for anyone who could read or even listen. -
They’d come undone and Bednarek would trip over them to concede a goal.
-
If you were friends with Crocker or Semmens you could earn £75k a week for doing nothing as footballing ability doesn’t seem to matter. Total social club, at least relegation should be a sufficient sharpener to bring the club back into the professional era so they can’t piss money away.
-
I really hope not, a couple of good goals on loan but most of the time lightweight and anonymous. Hopefully it’s an agent and Klopp pushing. At £17m you’d need to have lost your mind Les Reed-style to think that was a good purchase or be in the agent/Liverpool’s pocket and not acting in SFC’s business interests. Anyone with any football knowledge is well aware Saints need the equivalent of the next ASM at Newcastle before they get to the PL already - pace, very strong, bit raw hence the price. The squad chronically lacks power in most outfield departments, the very last thing needed is more weak, lightweight little kids blown over by the gust of wind. Some brute athletic strength please.

An MLG post I agree with. Has shown in fits and starts and we’ve got a little bit back plus the Celtic loans of the money Reed squandered from the VVD sale. However, renewing his contract at what is probably another £60k p/w is as big a waste as McCarthy or Stephens. He won’t play in the Champ anyway if we do go down next year and plenty of other leagues will want him. He will do well again in a less physical and fast paced league and seems a really decent lad. Anyone with any football sense would take £7-8m if the buying club picks up the last year’s additional wages (say £10m overall, which for a regular Norway international with CL experience isn’t bad value). Unfortunately I don’t think Crocker and Ralph are making the right moves so far with the risk on Bazanu as well. I get SR want to buy other clubs but just wish Rasmus had taken control of transfers this summer as the club needs someone who actually knows what they are doing in the market. Look at the players Brentford, needing refinement but quick, strong and intelligent units that when quality was added to them with Eriksen looked handy. And at a fraction of the cost of Saints. Someone mentioned Tella, there’s another that needs regular football now at 23. One penalty won and one goal is the sum of about 40 cameos and first team starts. Take the Champ route like Obafemi and work his way back.
-
I fully agree but as with McCarthy, they have boxed themselves in the corner by renewing Stephens as well (and won’t admit to it either). If Jack was released, then we could have afforded to have taken a gamble on replacing the departing Bednarek (judging by how active his agent is and the FA Cup QF mess) by getting a right footed Salisu equivalent CB for the longer term along with a more experienced option eg Mee or Jones, where they probably will only start 20 games over a couple of years but come on later in others to steady things down in tight games or where the side has collapsed and likely to ship several goals quickly. Poor planning, assets to sell are only assets if they can cut it at the level you are currently at and we know Jack is 4th choice and we already have Lyanco for that. He seems talented and 10 RoI caps at least so a bit more experienced than Gunn was (and £3m cheaper, Les really got his pants pulled down there, although not as badly as Monaco did to the gullible fool). Fingers crossed he matures fast and we are fending off £40m bids in 2 years time.
-
I’m sure he is talented and hopefully I eat my words here next season but it is a huge gamble in a position where the club cannot afford to. Although would probably do quite do well in the Champ assuming we do drop next year. If both Forster and McC had left at the end of their contracts as should have happened in a more competent club then a Ben Foster type could have come in for a year or two to start and allow Bazanu to settle and compete for the first team jersey. Whoever renewed McCarthy (and didn’t even have the guts to admit to it) should be fired, that’s for certain and has no business working at SFC or any other leading club.

Ted Verity is pretty much the property of Boris Johnson and Conservative CO. Boris’s other half had some pictures taken by the paper with her mates at a student ball and apparently as soon as Boris complained directly Ted folded like the rag he supposedly edits and it was taken off the front page, much to the annoyance no doubt of the pap who took them. As Cummings said recently, the whole WFH crap the Mail was leading was all about a pact for Verity to suck up to Boris so as to get commuters through the main London terminuses again so the Metro’s advertising revenues picked up and didn’t bankrupt the whole group. Today’s front page is just another installment of the debt Verity and the Mail owe. A better leader and any kind of even semi-quality journalist wouldn’t be held to ransom like that but clearly the likes of Geordie Grieg had some ethics and saw the way it was going. Plenty of installments left Ted - Boris owns you. You’ve backed a horse losing heavily and one that can’t be unseated for another year, unless the standards committee finds something as a file in a cake for you to escape being Boris’s tea intern. -

211 for, 148 against. Wow, only 63 clear. Tories are as cohesive and broken as Saints playing a high line in the 4222 formation against a front two of Son and Mbappe. -

What do we reckon in terms of tonight? He’ll get the 180 in favour, would be very surprised if he didn’t. Under 75 against would be a big result, 90-100 medium damaging but could carry on. Over 100 worse damage, limping on and over 125 would be very challenging for any longer than 12 months. JRM said earlier that a victory by 1 was sufficient and was reminded of his quote from the ERG having launched the challenge v May. He had to apologise to her in effect on R5L. As for Dorries, saw the barrage v Hunt, haven’t seen the donors quote yet but let’s face it anyone with a brain knows they exist for their paymasters anyway. The paymasters have changed to some extent with Brexit eg Odey, JCB, Vote Leave and hangers on. Why I vote Lib Dem.
