100% agree with this, but have a bit more faith in SR than I’ve had in the club for a few years that they are actively working on alternatives with more league experience at similar values eg where Reed just focused on Promes or Walcott and nothing happened.

Presumably what the UI poster in the Coventry end today had to endure. At least Cov saw their team win 2-0 and have a good shower when they get back to remove any lingering stale whiff from TCWTB and friends. Wonder if Colander Head (see The Cat’s post) was part of his little dance troupe? https://www.fansnetwork.co.uk/football/southampton/forum/287485/westwood/#4

Kyle Abbott hat-trick either side of lunch and now a 4th. Should win from here.

He had just signed a 5 year deal with Chelsea and was with them in pre season, plus we were still stuck with Gao then. £20m maybe but similar to the debates on the main summer transfer thread about Liam Delap if we had eg big risk, unproven etc. Adam Armstrong is a separate story but I don’t think he is being well utilised or coached, had a decent start but has gone from instinctive to hesitant and kept out of the side last season by a 35 year old that has just signed for Reading. Unless the coaching improves and the 10s area gets serious investment and fresh faces/players out, Erling Haaland would struggle let alone a £15m player from Blackburn.

Rumours of attitude issue - issues in Belgium about not sitting in his normal coach seat due to COVID protocols, police stop gesture and seemingly issues on loan in Germany. Nothing specific from Watford, had a great start but certainly some finger pointing from senior players that some of the squad were only really at full work rate for 70 minutes. Could do well but could be another Wesley Hoedt as well.

Their 10 just waltzed past Daly again there. Reminds me of when Souness played Neil Heaney at LB at Everton to counter Kanchelskis, although at 5-0 down by HT more dire consequences. Good chance missed there by England, one of the few moments of threat. Spain look composed and better on the ball.

New home kit reminds me of the one Saints wore in the last season at the Dell, but obviously this has a plain back whereas that had a stripe either side. Half expecting Kachloul, Dodd or Pahars to pop up. I suppose Smallbone could be Marsden.

Hottest in this country was Lake District four years ago when WC 2018 was on. I have a picture of my car thermometer showing 36 degrees Celsius and the forecast backed that up. There was surface liquid on the roads, I thought ‘It’s not rained for days’ and then could smell the melting tarmac. Made driving on Hardknott Pass interesting! Overseas, Ghent in Belgium hit the ton when we were there July 2003. Belgium has wonderful ales but not the right day to try them! Lanzarote got very hot one year, group of lads from Burnley we met whose backs were the same colour as their club’s shirts.

Yeah, I like some of the signings so far - Bazanu looks more agile than McCarthy or Forster, who was at least able to block the ball with sheer bulk - but can’t properly evaluate the window fully until 3 or 4 new offensive players in the striker and 10 areas come in. Some players to move on as well eg Bednarek, looked set for Serie A but maybe Roma or Napoli have to sell before they buy him. Also Ely either signing new deal or moving, ditto Moussa and Redmond. I can see the club letting Oriol run his last 12 months down but not several players they can get some ££ back on.

More like 20-25 short. Whiteley had no timing and Prest had to force the pace. Mind you, Neil Mallender the ex Somerset seamer and umpire biased there with widing Chris Wood’s last delivery, or it should have been. A couple of key wickets since, not least Banton. Keep Rilee quiet so he takes risks. Somerset have plenty of batting to come to pick back up.

Mad Nads caught out on Channel 4 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-62178278 If you spend enough time with Boris, this is the result -
Super Ken along with MLT was the brightest spot of a very grim era (which Les recreated 25 years later). Quick, strong and good football brain, never understood why Chelsea sold him even for what was a decent fee for the era. Sort of leadership qualities and communication skills the current squad needs more of. Not many errors, one red card v Everton that I can recall. One sickening clash of heads with Brian Deane of Leeds which he had to go off with concussion for, Deane stayed on and scored but dangerous decision and wouldn’t be allowed these days. He was released in 99 when 35 or so when we bought Dean Richards, joined Hudds and got MOTM at Fratton live on Sky, the skates booed him but still respected him.

What about a centrist Liberal Democrat voter like me then who has voted for different parties as well? Also, try not to use tabloid slang like Leftie (which is increasingly used since the referendum to describe Labour, Lib Dem, Green, Remainer Conservatives en masse and anyone non populist/UKIP), it tends to get people’s backs up. Look at the way any candidates in this upcoming leadership race are being ruled out if there is any hint of remain eg Hunt, Tugendhat etc. Also, they were purged from all key responsible positions by Johnson. If he had more Clark’s and Bucklands with different opinions around the cabinet table and less Raabs, Patels and Bravermans, he’d still be in the job. Even Thatcher had more of a balance eg Heseltine, Clarke, Whitelaw etc, people I’d have voted for. -
In a reserve game at the Dell he allegedly managed to clear the upper Milton with a shot. Don’t know if true but we are talking Owen Farrell height to clear that.

Unless they pick Wallace or Tugendhat - which they won’t as not Brexit enough (ditto Hunt too) - then there isn’t anyone competent which is why Boris won the vote only a month ago. Look at the runners and riders - Sunak, shattered by the non Dom saga, a gift for Starmer and will make the cost of living crisis even worse: Truss - off her rocker, would melt on the world stage: Braverman - Donald Trump in a dress: Penny the skate: flying wardrobe on Splash is her top achievement, that’s the Southampton seats both gone red again: Patel: worse than May as Home Secretary, didn’t think that was possible, Rwanda saga will forever be her legacy and link. I could go on eg Javid too dry to appeal widely, Steve Baker a loony but I want the Tory Party gone from power as soon as possible so they can rebuild as Kinnock had to do with Labour in the 1980s. Just a rudderless, populist, single issue eg Brexit mess. And they couldn’t even get that ‘done’ properly looking at the NI protocol. Their legacy - austerity, Brexit (sort of), Grenfell (shared with Labour), huge scale PPE fraud (which will sink Michelle Donelan), economic shrinking eg Brexit, gross mishandling, education in chaos at all levels, record costs of living to match the stagflation of the 1970s. If like Labour this period keeps the Tories out of power for 18 years the country will be in a much better place. As a Lib Dem voter I’m not overkeen on Starmer but cannot fail to be an improvement than this pile of imbeciles on his worst day. -

If the Tories are going to continue being a flop, might as well go for someone who flops spectacularly.. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/entry/4630640 -
Damning stuff. Won’t change the minds of any of the Neo Nazi zealots who vote for Trump but should help motivate those who don’t to vote Democrat consistently until the Republicans are cleansed of being fascist scum. Frighteningly, Trump appears to be in a race for 2024 nomination with Florida’s Ron DeSantis and it’s a genuine debate as to whether he’s much better. He is probably is on the basis he hasn’t mounted an armed coup after comprehensively losing an election https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-61970258

I smell agent/club needing to offload. Can’t see this being in line with the other links and Brownhill didn’t exactly stand out whereas Cornet did and affordable release fee. McNeil yes but still on a long-ish contract isn’t he? We need a bit more express pace and strength in the 10 areas IMHO although with a lot more ability on the ball than Tella. McNeil satisfies the latter but a change of pace rather than out and out quick.

Broadly I agree with you but I think these owners will be prepared to break Ings record £20m fee this summer for the lead striker, perhaps less for the second striker. They seemed to be prepared to for Broja before things went off the boil. There needs to be outgoings as well now players are coming off holidays eg Bednarek been on Poland duty, Redmond, Moi, possibly Diallo, AA. Theo if an MLS club think he can do a job as a designated player.

That makes sense to me, I reckon a reporter has confused him and Valery, who was strongly rumoured to be going there. Whether Yan wants to is another story but after a decent start in a 5 man defence as an attacking wing back he hasn’t looked remotely good enough as a RB in a 4 neither as a CB in a 5, although not quite as dire as RB. Couldn’t make the Birmingham squad either so if the Turkish second tier is equivalent to league one or two here that would be more Yan’s level. Lyanco seems to be part of the club’s plans as 3rd/4th choice they can develop so the report seemed an outlier.

Another cheap government slogan getting debunked https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-61946037 The current culture war on universities doesn’t help the government’s cause in these goals either, although I’m sure the beetroot faced old coot in Wetherspoons laps it up reading his Sun/Mail/Express with his second pint of Ruddles County at 11am. -
Mary Miller meant what she said, you don’t mix up ‘white life’ with ‘right to life’ without at least correcting yourself on the stump. The fact Trump was there nodding and there was a raucous cheer tells you everything. My question is when is western media going to tell the truth about what the Republican Party has become? They are happy to label Marie Le Pen et Al as far right and her National Front, whilst highly unpleasant, is nowhere near as facist as the Republicans have become. ‘The Far Right Republican Party’ needs to be their label for a generation on every single news report going forward. If they win in 2024 then they have to be globally isolated like North Korea, Afghanistan, Russia and similar regimes, the disgraceful coup attempt on Capitol Hill will become a mere bagatelle. Important now that global finance is built up both within the US and beyond to support Harris for 2024 assuming she wins nomination and save democracy.

Makes sense. Adam will have to waive some wages to get a move to Boro though even if Gibson puts his hand in his pocket for the fee. If he scores 27 goals and gets them promoted though it could be ££ well spent. Probably a loan to buy then. Having seen Saints Fan 86’s post, broadly agree but if Boro get £15 for Spence I can see half going on AA os a loan fee and say another £3m next summer, or another £7m if they go up. All hinges on wages though and AA compromising. Boro haven’t got parachute money.

Saw that as well, Thomas is a very polarising figure. Unfortunately he and the other conservative appointments have an in-built majority. You can’t see the likes of New York City, California, the NE and Washington living in a facist country like that being global places so I do foresee some independence happening as the conservatives in the US resemble a mix of the worst populist regimes eg Russia (which is why significant parts of the Republicans support Putin in Ukraine), Hungary and Brazil, and with the Taliban. Thankfully the British electorate going by recent results seem to have woken up and realised the Tories were heading towards a ‘light’ version of this after the meetings between Bannon, JRM et Al.
