I see in the presser Russ described our second v Liverpool as a ‘beautiful goal’. Elements of it were good, I agree, however Calamity Keeper actually missed/dropped the ball so there was some fortune to it too. Had it bounced slightly differently it could well have been Liverpool getting the second goal.

Watched the Sheffield derby. With Weds one down mention was made how they were ‘having a right go’ trying to get back into it………a phrase never associated with Saints anymore sadly.

So given our stats this season every time we go 1 nil down (which is most weeks) we have to score just under a third of our season total to then win the game, assuming we don’t concede again. To put that in context it’s like saying if Liverpool go a goal down, using the same percentages, then to win they have to score 6. Quite simply it’s not happening and as soon as we concede it’s as good as game over.

‘Martin frustrated after ‘impossible’ Saints defeat’ so says the BBC……….if he doesn’t get the fact that whatever the possession stats are if we have no shots on target then it doesn’t matter a jot and it’s a shocking indictment on how he sees the game. Unbelievable that he’s still in a job this morning. We will look back again at a season that could potentially have been saved with a management change but will leave us asking ‘what if’.

IIRC we could have salvaged the last Prem season when we appointed Jones and again when we appointed Selles. However on both occasions calamitous appointments cost us. It’s exactly the same now…….make the correct appointment and we may just have a fighting chance. If we’d have appointed Dyche instead of Jones we certainly wouldn’t have been at Wembley last season and would have probably had a couple of mid table finishes in the last couple of seasons.

I was at the game today. What I did note was that the outfield players only warmed up for 15 minutes on the turf. I know we lost FD pre KO. It just struck me as quite odd and a little unprofessional. The coach took as long putting out the cones

T minus 4 hours to KO and only 3 pages of pre match build up. Probably as good a barometer of the apathy we all feel as you’ll see.
