  1. That's a good point, other clubs who play by the rules will not be able to compete with the wages pompey are offering. Perhaps he is going there to finish them off for us! He can collect big wages while hopefully being injured all the time
  2. Good God I hope not!! He would be a great signing for them. I hope a proper football club come in for him before that deal goes through.
  3. I'm hoping that is how we go about recruiting our players for next season too. I would much rather we take a chance on players like Matt Phillips and Rhodes who are hungry to prove themselves, than waste loads of money in wages on players like Owen and Hargreaves.
  4. That is absolutely mental!!! Just seeing her hanging out the harness like that. One wrong move from either of them and she would have been pizza and on her 80th too. I'm very glad for her and her family she survived. I think the skydive centre can expect a visit from Health and Safety very soon.
  5. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dO6ypZmDXkI&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL87C6C01402D240B9 He mentions about his penalty technique here in this video. Watch from 7.08 onwards for his approach to taking a penalty but the whole video is worth a watch if you haven't seen it before.
  6. Agreed! Matt always said the trick to taking a good penalty was wanting to take it! Thats why he only ever missed one in his career. His technique was also pretty much flawless too
  7. David Lampitt brought in to see how many more FA league rules have loop holes the skates can exploit again!
  8. To be honest I don't think there is a sensible solution that could replace the effective way penalties end a match.
  9. I don't want penalties to go, I was merely asking if he got his way what would the alternative be?
  10. Interesting idea but can you imagine the havoc that would cause to live Television games? The cup matches could end up going on for hours more than usual messing up the running times of all the other programmes. At the moment they can factor in any potential time for extra time and penalties but that could really be a big unknown, time wise. Admittedly penalties could go on a long time if players kept scoring all the time but that rarely happens.
  11. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18205513 I know it can seem unfair but I wouldn't want to see them gone. What could they possibly use as an alternative that would be fair? Looking at shots on target at goal? most possession? Heads or Tails?
  12. I really hate the way he is being treated by the press. He's not Redknapp and its not what they the press wanted. So he isn't going to be given much of a chance. Other than winning the cup, which isn't going to happen, they will be calling for his head. I wish Redknapp had of got the job so they could see their beloved Arry mess it up. The difference being if Redknapp messed it up they would give him another chance.
  13. There have been a few articles on the OS mentioning the Southampton way and its been mentioned by Cortese whenever he talks about the future of the club. So what exactly is it? Is it the style of football we aim to play? The way we are going to develop our youth players to one day be our first team? Or that we look after SOME ex players and give them roles with meaning within the club after they hang up their boots? I'll start and answer my own questions and say it appears all three of those seem to be part of it. So are there other things you can add to the list, that already are, or should be part of the Southampton way?
  14. yeah, I don't believe a word of it. I'm not sure I really want it to be true either.
  15. I remember thinking that too. In fact I remember being paranoid and thought because Saints always only just stayed up, that they were decreasing the league size on purpose just so they could finally get Saints out of the top flight.
  16. Yeah sure. But I was replying to peacey saying we could sign him as back up. I'm not sure he would sign for us with the understanding he would be our back up keeper and that he would have to wait for his chance. I would of thought a keeper of his ability would now be looking for regular first team football.
  17. That's pretty amazing. He was obviously pretty sure he was able to do it. But agree with you Ohio its all very entertaining and exciting until someone screws it up. Then it just looks dumb.
  18. I'm not sure he'd sign up for us just to warm tbe bench. He's obviously wants the chance of first team football.
  19. Yeah hopefully it will help get us off to a flyer again. I hope we have got most of our transfer business done by then so the new look team get the bonding time before the season starts. Also it will give the new recruits time to learn the Southampton way
  20. Obviously Owen is a class player when he is injury free. The trouble is he will probably only end up in the treatment room most of the season. Plus his wages would be massive. If he did get on the pitch I would be worried that any tackle on him would either end his career or at least his season. I personally don't think he is worth the risk but I guess that's up to Adkins and Cortese to decide.
  21. Just voted for you too Good luck hope you can over take the Brighton site and at the least keep a head of the pompey site.
  22. He obviously isn't going to figure this season so I don't know why they don't just terminate his contract. Either way the club have got to pay him for the next 12 months. So why not just pay him all up front and get him off the books? Surely he will not figure in our 25 man squad as that would be one space wasted!
  23. Last year both Norwich and Southampton received a trophy for coming runners up in their respective leagues. I'm not sure if there were trophies this season for 2nd place.
  24. I suppose you've got to hand it to West Ham they did a professional job seeing off the other play off hopefuls with ease. I'm so glad we didn't have to go through the play offs though. I wouldn't swap whatever they were feeling at full time today at Wembley for knowing we were up at St Mary's over 2 weeks ago. If we had been involved in the play offs I'm not sure we would have got this far. Both Cardiff and Blackpool had the better results over us this season and would of had the edge over us. As much as I would have preferred Blackpool to win, I guess justice has been done from the league final standings point of view. Just hope we can take 6 points off West Ham next season.
  25. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10280~2776455,00.html Sounds like the club have a role for him to play still as there is going to be an announcement from the club specifically about his future
