I have been told why he was sacked - I don't know if it is true but it was family member who is not prone to hyperbole or big claims normally - and it has not been mentioned in this thread. If that particular rumour is true then if I was Cortese I would have sacked him too.
-
I lifted this from the link to article - that sort of bit him on the arse didn't it? Also nice spelling of 'symbolic' too. "A happy Pompey fan........ I think it should stay as a reminder of how embarrassing your side really is, kind of symollic."

If the case is as stated then it is a morally reprehensible thing to do. No doubt. On the other hand surely anyone on here posting that is say, over the age of twelve, realises that this is exactly how big businesses behave toward smaller ones. Including might I add never, ever paying bills. Something that the justice system has been trying to put a stop to for years. A friend of mine never got paid for some engineering work he completed for a bigger company and took then to court and still never got paid. Surely we all can comprehend, just by reading this forum, that people in general really aren't very nice - so why should businesses of any description be so? Anyway I'm off to go on some other club's forum to see some posts praising Southampton FC.

What does supporting Saints mean to you?
David Strover replied to bangkoksaint's topic in The Saints
Nothing much. Saints were the closest professional team to where I was born and lived and my brother and mates all supported them and went down the Dell so I did. Them's the lumps and I take as the come. I have no real opinion on Cortese and Adkins and I don't know how they work nor do I pretend to know how they work either. I don't come here much or post here much. I'm Saints that's it - through good and bad I think I will always will be, hating and loving in equal amounts. -
Rather worryingly we are now starting to lose touch with the teams in 14th and 15th, at the moment it is only four or five points but it does mean we do have to win two games just to get level on their points totals. Of course as we are always going to concede at least two goals every game we are in a great deal of trouble. The game today threw up few positive points for me. It very much looks like we are a Championship side for the foreseeable future. Perhaps it best we played there anyway - no matter what ambition we have or claim to have, we will never, ever, win the Premiership alongside about fifteen to sixteen other clubs.

So what is the score gonna be on sunday
David Strover replied to Miltonroader07's topic in The Saints
We will not keep a clean sheet this season unless someone gets two or three players sent off early - even then we'll let one in. Sunday we may get one or two goals but despite a few people thinking we'll start well and then fade I think we'll start really badly and as a contest it'll be over inside the first 15 to 20 minutes. Two quick goals will knock the stuffing out of us and it'll be game over. Then'll it'll be more positive vibes and learning from our mistakes and we got to stop letting goals in ******** up to the next game! I reckon 4-1 to Spurs with it being 2-0 at halftime. -
Anyone else reminded of Poortvliets reign..?

This is a fair and well thought out. I am not trying to be overly pessimistic but the biggest problem that I see us having is that we just can't stop letting in goals and I don't see any fix on the horizon. Adkins does not tell his players to switch off for ten minutes or so, do totally illogical and no defensive things or play excessively nervously - and they've been doing this more or less for eight games. I cannot see any game where we won't let in at least two goals which means in the Premiership we are going to lose most matches. Even QPR and Norwich and even Reading appear to be better than us at the moment. Personally I just can't see us suddenly stop letting in shedloads of goals. I really hope I'm wrong, really, really but I just can't see it. It is going to be a long hard season - I already don't look forward to Saturday afternoons.
-
Not a hope in hell....sorry but the writing is already on the wall and we are not getting better and we can't put anything right until January by which time the losing culture will have pervaded throughout the whole support and club. It has happened to a lot of clubs and we are not any different.

The thoughts of Kelvin Davis - "Thank **** I got dropped" Mind you some on here will still try and blame him for the last two games. So far this reminds me of Derby County's last and only recent season in the top flight. The team was shockingly bad and shipped six goals in home games at least twice plus they did not react to the ****poor season they were having until it was too late and got relegated....and a word of warning, they didn't bounce back either. It's funny how quite a few supporters of other teams kept saying were weren't that good and would easily get relegated last season......
-
If we get five we might get a draw. We did draw 4-4 and 3-3 with them over the years. The also have a history of absolutely stuffing us from time to time. My old brain can remember scores like 6-0, 6-1, 7-2, 5-1, 5-3 and a few others - and they weren't wins either! We could really, really get hammered, the must be rubbing their hands with glee...
-
I would imagine. The second dead leg the left me laying behind the goal groaning and just carried on playing the game - I couldn't believe it after my leg stopped hurting. Hopefully there was more concern for Ramirez at the time...
-
I've had two dead legs playing football. The first one I was unable to play for about four weeks and unable to walk comfortably for about three or four days. That was a knee directly on the middle of the thigh collision. The second one was a full weight of the player knee first on the back of my thigh. I couldn't walk comfortably for about a week and didn't play for about four - I also have what feels like a hole in my thigh muscle at the back even know - which is about 17 years later. From experience I can tell you that they hurt a lot - if you get a proper one. I used to play in goal and both of these injuries were more painful than the broken nose, broken ulna, broken fingers and 'full-on nearly killed me winding' I was unlucky enough to get over the years.

Well my user name is my real name. A few people on her know me. I am as much of a **** as I seem to be too.

It's like the Brighton and Hove Albion away game last season. A lot of their supporters have a 'chips on their shoulders' about us like the Brighton fans so this would be a great ground to get a win in and shut some of them up....we'll lose 3-0. Can't see anymore than a point at the very best at home to Tottenham Hotspur (although unlikely), nothing at Leeds and nothing at West Bromwich Albion. I hate this league and I'm glad I cancelled my Sky subscription before the season started. For once I made the correct choice.
-
Away from home? Some 5-1, 5-0 hammerings, a couple of really frustrating 1-0 defeats after playing really well, maybe one or two wins and about four draws. Home? About six or seven defeats, at least one shock win and some draws. Points? Maybe enough to keep us up - just. I was hoping we wouldn't be involved in ice-hockey scores every week but oh well.... Mainly just like being in old division one - mostly really, really frustrating and mainly losing. I cancelled Sky Sports in the summer and don't watch match of the day - so funnily enough since the last promotion my football interest has wained. Let's face it this is a w*nk league unless you're a top four side.
-
There is a lot of posts on here saying how wrong you are. Well to be honest I don't run the club and I don't make the decisions and anyway the window has closed so we play with what we got. The sickening thing is not the opinions be they right or wrong it is the absolute deliberate lack of good grace or respect shown to the man. After all if he had ****ed off and joined West Ham to be a bench warmer or before this he'd have probably had the same people calling him a **** too. And for the record I happen to think Craig Gordon is over rated crap and I am still waiting to see the Premiership goalie that dominates his penalty area plucking crosses out of the air like low hanging fruit. Ray Clemence used to be good at crosses, after that there isn't that many. Just watch a bit more football other than Saints only.
-
Oooh. Sounds to me that an ex-professional football who seems to be admired far and wide for his fairness, tactical nous and impartiality implies that Kelvin wasn't entirely to blame as much as all the football experts on here think. Puts tin-hat and engages anti-swear word filter.

What's the wierdest thing you've ever seen someone do at football?
David Strover replied to kwsaint's topic in The Saints
Yes they did. I know exactly who that was and how/why taking mackerels to matches started. The chant that went along with this was 'Lawrie Mackerel's red and white army' I believe -
It was 2-2 after 90 minutes.

Saints 2 Man United 3 - Post Match Reactions
David Strover replied to St Chalet's topic in The Saints
Well let us hope so because I said to my brother and mate before the game that we more often than not going to have to score four this season to win....and so it has proved. Our defence, unless they sort themselves out very quickly, is going to cost us games week in week out. United were ordinary today and there for the taking and they made us look like chumps. Again. -

We're going to be this season's Blackpool. 'Oh how unlucky', 'What a breath of fresh air', 'Won't change their philosophy that has served them so well" Relegated. -
WBA A lost 0-3 Manchester City H drew 2-2 Arsenal H losing 0-2 tbc I guess not.

I see will still some posters who think Wigan and non-top four teams are 'lesser'. This is poppycock. It wouldn't surprise me if we lost 3-1 or so. West Ham are being hammered at the moment by lesser club Swansea... This is the top league everyone not League One. There are NO easy games every game is as losable as it is winnable.
