  1. Yup - I agree 100% Warsash Saint. I was going to give visiting this forum and posting on here a lovely long break but actually predicting relegation for next season before the current one has finished is truly astounding. What if the two in question do in fact leave and then a more wealthy investor purchases the club and installs a really savvy chairman and they in turn employ and very popular and well-known manager? Things could get better! Truth be told not one of us on here has a clue and absolutely no one knows what the future - not one single person in the history of humanity has actually predicted the future....only guessed and on the occasion got it right and then claimed 'second sight'.
  2. Yes. I think this thread is important. What a great season, I've been angry, happy and all points in between but the players and staff have done us proud. How great to be staying up and a stress-free last game. Imagine being a QPR or Reading fan? I think it needs to be remembered that quite a few players in our squad have had no, or at the least very little, experience in the Premiership. Not many players get promoted from League One, The Championship and carry on playing and making a difference in the Premiership. Well done Saints and hopefully next season we move on a level and really start to scare clubs in this division.
  3. I know exactly who used to bring the mackerels to games and why. It originally started with a game, I don't even know if it was home or away, when a drunken fool I went to school with bought a mackerel pre-game and tried to sneak it in under his coat. The law stopped him and asked him what he was doing with it and he said 'It's my lunch', this was challenged so he bit a chunk out of the raw fish and ate it. They let him in. From then on the group of lads with him took mackerels to games as 'Lawrie Mackerel's red and white army'.
  4. Thank goodness for the close season. Although I have many posters on 'ignore' it only works when you're logged-in which I don't do regularly, so from the end of this season to August I will hardly visit here which means the unSaints fans who post on here won't annoy me. I'll be in Canada just as pre-season and end of transfer window comes around so I'll miss the 'he's not good enough for us' and 'why didn't we sign on Colly Clobber that West Ham did? He's brilliant' constant drip-drip whinging. Bliss.
  5. My thought exactly. All the Wigan Athletic fans that pretend to be long-time Saints, season ticket holders, home and away faithfuls, must be absolutely gutted. Still should we lose on Sunday they'll be out in force showing their unwavering support for Newcastle United, Norwich City, Aston Villa, Sunderland, Wigan Athletic and anyone other than Southampton FC basically.
  6. This makes no sense - there is no such thing as 'nailed on wins' or even 'points' for Saints but there are for the teams around us. Pray tell me what the difference is between these teams starting elevens and ours?
  7. He is not a Saints supporter and my dad, who has had no strong interest in football his whole 87 years, wants Saints to win most of their matches more than he does. Further to this he has been comprehensively wrong nearly every single time - remember last season? The promotion run in? There are some Pompey fans I like more than some of the posters on this forum - they're not as negative about Saints.
  8. Thought I'd pop on here today to see how the loyal, Wigan, Newcastle, Norwich, Aston Villa and Sunderland fans are getting on. All's well I see. I do often wonder how the passionate, LOYAL, Saints fans are getting on? It's at times like these that every person involved with Southampton FC needs to stand together, be brave and see the job through - not fold like wet cardboard.
  9. I am not a Tory and believe Margaret supported Pompey in a political sense but I honestly couldn't care less as you can't change history and she can't do anything to anyone but perhaps worrying about upsetting Mark Thatcher is going beyond the pale. Just do a bit of research on that moral blackhole. In fact if the comments on here really upset him I'd say keep 'em coming. Most of this thread has nothing to do with football so I thought I'd add to it.
  10. Funnily enough I cancelled the Sky Sports subscription package at the beginning of this season and guess what? I don't miss it - not one bit. I also don't miss their crappy movie channel either.
  11. Actually you're all missing the point. In team sports where video reviews are used it is the senior official (two on-ice referees in ice-hockey for instance) who makes the decision as to whether it is reviewed. Therefore in the Wigan vs Newcastle game the referee, who by his own admission, couldn't see the challenge would have naturally called for a review. For the winning goal perhaps he could have got advice from the linesman or fourth official who might say 'there may have been a handball in the build up' but ultimately the referee makes the final decision. It doesn't mean every single call is reviewed and in my fantasy world, managers, club officials and players would have no say in it - unless of course they are the home side and in the top four.... it could work, it just needs a good, sensible, well worked-out system. Not bloomin' impossible - in my opinion.
  12. A lot of fans on here call other supporters 'arrogant' in their attitude to other clubs yet predictors here brush aside Stoke, Swansea, WBA and West Ham and most of our opponents like they are 'just turn up with your boots and we'll win' opponents. It might work on Sunday mornings but in professional situation every single game we have left we could be easily beaten. It's just not that fecking easy. I think we'll do it but I don't look at Reading and go 'oh they're crap we'll win...'
  13. We have points and wins on the board - those below us, despite what you may think, have fewer and have to catch us up - so far they haven't.
  14. Mental. I had us relegated on the last day of the season with a 2-2 draw against Stoke - changed it to 2-1 and we finished 14th! It was pretty tight, I could see a lot of draws and we got thrashed at Tottenham and Swansea plus we lost at Sunderland but QPR and Reading didn't make it! Oh well no one knows, what happens will happen but I don't feel confident to be honest.
  15. Last post. My English is generally better than that but I am appalled by the lack of grammar, repetition and typos in those few lines. Still at least I"m not an Everton fan!
  16. Like most things in life it is not quite a cut and dried or as black and white as it seems. Sometimes I'm very optimistic and other times I feel very pessimistic and not always for any logical reason. At the moment I feel Saints as a team are being overrated by our fans and the results would also point that way. After all there is no point winning against Man City and then losing to teams like Newcastle and QPR who are teams we should be nicking points off. At this present moment in time I feel very pessimistic and I seriously don't believe we are as good a football team as people think. Another couple of defeats and we are going to be in serious trouble. I actually can't see where the wins are going to come from at the moment. QPR are the team everyone are beating and we couldn't get ourselves up to win this game or come up with some way of beating what the table is saying are the poorest club in the division. Over-reaction? Probably. But I'll happily take the criticism that comes with this few point. It's okay I may be, and have been many times, completely wrong. Although frankly I don't feel I am at the moment.
  17. Our defence has gone backward in recent weeks and we miss shedloads of chances - so basically we are getting poorer. We will lose this 3-1. Norwich apparently 'don't pose much threat' but they were able to beat Everton 2-1 in their last home game - we lost 2-1 to QPR at home, their THIRD league win this whole season. We really are a poor team and our results will reflect this.
  18. Ballsacks! I don't know what we're yelling about!
  19. I don't what were yelling about!
  20. The fawning over Liverpool really annoyed me and I and others have said the players, early in the season, looked overawed and frightened to be playing where they were. I genuinely think there was too much emphasis on how the 'Premier League' was the best league in the world and everyone was 'world class'. Stop banging on about it and get on with your jobs!
  21. Presumably you're too young to have heard of or experienced gazumping then? My wife was gazumped seven times in one house move by good old honest hand-shake British people.... Also the stories my bosses/owners tell me about the people they have dealt with would make your hair curl. I'm afraid you're living in a 'Hollywoodised' version of the UK. I don't like the real version, full of actions like Corteses, but it is the stone-cold truth...(just in case anyone thinks otherwise this is not a defence of Cortese as I do not understand the decision in anyway).
  22. 2018 - we might be in Division 3 by then so it won't really have calmed down but we might on this topic. This Forum proves what my dad has always said 'They ain't all locked up'...thanks for the entertainment everyone! You are all truly mental!
  23. Another expression is 'cretin' which people think is acceptable - look up the etymology of that word.
