The Official Summer Transfers and HCDAJFU Thread
David Strover replied to supersonic's topic in The Saints
We are in fact a League Division Three club with three good strikers at the club - there aren't too many what most on here would consider 'good' forwards/strikers who are gonna sign for us because....well they might not get a game.....better to 'not get a game' in the Premiership or the Championship to be honest. We are a League Division Three club. -
It wouldn't surprise me if we lost Saturday - everyone is expecting us to win, loads of people will be quoting last season and the 5-1 and 3-2 wins at Bristol Rovers and I can see us battering them and then losing 2-1. Mind you I have been wrong so many times before - hopefully I'll be wrong this time. For some reason I've not been optimistic about this season since before a ball was kicked.

Can we please make this a community again?
David Strover replied to SaintBobby's topic in The Saints
I agree but you've got no chance in the 'Well of Lost Souls'..... -
I said that too - and businesses don't run as democracies either and most countries don't for a larger part of the time either because it doesn't work. Everytime you make a decesion who have to get the opinons and views of the all the people involved and then act on it - hmmmm. WIFM

Name the stadium after him.

Markus Liebherr RIP. All tributes here please.

The Markus Liebherr Stadum. Someone start a sticky about this. I reckon a vote would be 100% on this Forum surely? -
Rename the stadium - that's the easiest thing to do and I can't see anyone complaining about it......oh hold on.
-
Perhaps Seabourne is becoming this season's 'hate' figure. We always have one - no matter how he plays, what the result, what position Saints are in the table, someone will post on here that this particular player is sh*te. Good luck Seabourne it's your turn!
-
I for one can wait. Forty-one years a Southampton FC victim along with my brother and about 70% of that time I've just been generally unhappy before match day and after match day. You'd have thought I'd be immune by now. Last season was good and the old Second Division days were great in the 1970s but I was a young whipper-snapper then and more optimistic than I am now! Ho hum as it ever was. I predict 0-0 and a loss on penalties but if Ricky Lambert plays we might snatch a win.
-
If it's 0-0 tomorrow night and we go out on penalties (it's a real possibility) and the pressure will be on....
-
After one game?!
-
If we don't play Lambert we won't win - simple as. We don't know how to play football with two small forwards.

Just for the record that was a 'record' yesterday. It's the first time Southampton Football Club has lost it's opening league game in third level of the professional game, be it Division Three, Division Three (South), Division Three (again) or League One. Oh I am so glad I was alive to witness another milestone in the club's glorious history. As for signing activity I to was wondering whether the moaners on here have some insight to the club's machinations. We haven't signed anyone on ergo we haven't tried to sign anyone on. That makes no sense and is as usual a massive assumption. For all I know Pardew et al have been knocking doors down left right and centre trying to get the 'right' player for the club but haven't, so far, had any luck or maybe are still waiting for answers. Anyway it doesn't matter because if we had have signed on these three or four players we 'need' before yesterdays game I would bet you a pound to a penny that all the same moaners would have been on here saying we'd signed on the 'wrong' player(s). Sometimes in life you just can't win - if you manage a football team this normally is the case....

Well nobody else did it so here is the match thread
David Strover replied to dubai_phil's topic in The Saints
I meant accept it - that is just a typo.....a bit like Saints football today, hopefully. -

And although it does have no real bearing on this result or season Reading in their record breaking promotion season lost their first game of the season 3-1 at home to Plymouth Argyle and Swindon lost 5-0 at Tranmere last season and Norwich 7-1 at home to Colchester. So although I have already started to think it is new season, same old ****e this result may have no bearing on the coming 45 games. Trouble is I am beginning to think that no matter who owns us, who manages us, who plays for us, we just are a pretty mediocre not very good football club. Time to just except it I guess..... -
Good post. Show me and I'll believe you - there is no other way.

I love the expression oft' used in the UK 'respect' opinon or views. Nonsense. Had I been an adult around the 1920s and 1930s I would not have 'respected' the opinions of the Nazis and their ilk. So why should I respect the opinions of people I consider to be fools or ignoramuses. I do the other thing - ignore them and don't visit this forum too often. I will never, ever respect those whose opinions deserve so little respect.
-
When Reading went on their mental unbeaten run in The Championship a few years ago they lost their opening home game of the season 3-1 to.....Plymouth Argyle - so it might pay a few of the wrist cutters to remember that.

Is The Forum Representative Of Saints Fans In General
David Strover replied to Gemmel's topic in The Saints
No. If it is then there is no hope for the club. -
Hilarious, two people on my ignore list talking to each other - that's a quick thread then.
-
Can DBP please keep to this name for a while now? It makes the ignore list easier to control. Many thanks.

Because I live in Swindon, I don't get paid much money and I cannot justify what would be a least about £55 every other week on football - and before any says, no I don't smoke, I virtually don't drink and I more or less do feck all in my life because I have to count every penny. I went to Wembley because my Sunday morning team's sponsor is a Club Wembley member and he gave me the tickets!
-
Yes a bit like the bloke who phoned up Spoonie on 5Live and then managed to bring Portsmuff into the conversation about how great Saints were....personally I couldn't give a **** about them I'm a Saints supporter and that's the club I'm interested in.
-
Too many 'bad days at the office' and 'we were unlucky' games now. The current squad is not good enough and partially living on reputation.
-
A few months back I would have agreed but recently I'm not. The fans thing we are Manchester United or summat - we aren't - the players only seem to play when they want and when they're up against it as in last night and against Tranmere they fail. True Champions win games when you play awful or decisions go against you - when everyone is on song in this team we are virtually unbeatable but if it's always at home and every third game or so then I can see us being the new 'Leeds United' not the next 'Manchester United'. I said before any of the current signings, the new management and owners came about that after our relegation we would be in this division for four or five years. I stick by it. Things have got so much better but I still think there is some bitter medicine to swallow for us poor old Saints fans. Oh and don't go thinking the JPT is won yet. There is a another club with a Wembley Day Out who'd like nothing better than to put one over on the 'Billy Big Boots' from the south......
