  1. I don't care who we get in the next round, but really would like to be in the championship next season. Pleased with the win though.
  2. Now that was funny. Computer screen needs attention!
  3. Cricket Australia! Need to be associated with winners.
  4. There was the old story of the vet that corrected the Champion Bull that went cross eyed before the Smithfield Show, but I'm not sure Ricky would appreciate the rubber hose up his "khyber".
  5. I'm sure it will be a lot clearer by January. One thing has been confirmed this year, that is that it is not as straight forward as hoped as to getting out of this league. Just look at other results in this division. Brighton are at the moment going through a lean spell, so to come here and grab a point must be seen as a good result for them, as opposed to us squandering two. So, taking everything that has gone before us this season, I think we are progressing, if a little slower than could be expected. Hopefully we will improve and get out of this division. 7/10 for me.
  6. I was under the impression that if one is not charged, bail is not required. Not that I'm up on these matters.
  7. First game for a couple of seasons. Overall I came away with the impression that Saints played a standard of football a bit above the third division. Whether or not that will be enough to get promotion remains to be seen, but was definitely heartened by what I saw. On the downside, I was concerned that after Connolly replaced Lambert, Davis still was kicking long down the middle to the advantage of a defender half a yard taller than Connolly! Also have reservations about Martin. Hopefully he will improve. To reiterate, didn't see too much to be concerned about last night. The referee seemed to demand centre stage all night, to the detriment of both sides. Self serving prat.

    Sad day.

Very sorry to hear about Ted's passing. I spoke to him a couple of years ago when staying at the Concorde when last in UK. Being related, and living near his parents, I'd known Ted most of my life. Although very much younger than Ted I did enjoy a beer with him from time to time when Pirelli's had club rooms at Dew Lane in Eastleigh. He played rugby for many years and I believe he was a pretty fair boxer in the army during WW2. A really good person to know.
  9. Word was at the time, he had to go. As good as he had been.
  10. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Pulis. Not that I have met him or know anything about him as a person. His arrival and subsequent absence of much ability, have left the whole sad deal on the nose. Certainly doesn't help that he was part of a Rupert Lowe transaction. Even so, I don't detest or hate the bloke.
  11. Whomsoever really is Dan Kerins, seems to have a multiple personality disorder of some magnitude.
  12. I still feel happy about the formative years I spent in Hampshire. I'm more than happy living where I am in exile. Even happier that Saints are back getting good results. I don't really give a toss what 'the missile' thinks.
  13. As I logged on today, I was praying for a win. Not only for the obvious reason, but so that I didn't have to plough through all the endless dross written by the usual suspects. It was disapointing not to have won, but surely not the end of the earth. I shudder to think what will be forthcoming if we lose to MK Dons in the week. Please be a little more rational folks, it's still a way to go yet and there aren't too many better available managers around.
  14. I only went a handful of times in the fifties, from memory it adjoined the old county ground and was owned by Charles Knott who was a director of Saints. His son, also Charles Knott played for Hampshire CCC as a 'Gentleman' ie an amateur. Not sure which of them sold it for developement. This may be incorrect, my memory may be playing tricks and I apologise in advance if not factual.
  15. If her obvious attribute is down to beng trilingual, I might send my missus off for some language lessons. She already speaks two, English and Rubbish.
  16. Why do we turn on each other after a setback of the slightest magnitude? Dissapointed at not getting three points? Of course. Is it the end of the world? No. Frustrating? A little. So results aren't going exactly as planned. Who in their right mind would swap this season for the situation The Dark One left us in? Try and relax a bit people it could be better, but could be an awful lot worse.
  17. At the end of the current season, if we have a total mumber of points that added to the 10 we lost, are up with those of the higher placed play off teams, then Pardew has done a good job. He then has to improve on that next season to be sure of his tenure at the club. That's the way I see it at the moment. Of course there could be circumstances to hinder this achievement, such as horrific injury problems which would affect the outcome, but generally that would be the minimum requirement in my opinion.
  18. I agree with your point of view. It is still mathematically possible to reach the play offs and although I'm not overly confident of Saints achieving this, I do believe that if they do, then it becomes a whole different situation. Here's hoping.
  19. A fair amount of criticism is being passed around on a relatively innocuous question it would seem. I'm frankly overjoyed at the vision of the heirarchy at the moment. Having said that, I would really like to see some pruning of the squad. It does irk me to see wages disappearing weekly on players that would be lucky to command a regular spot with Totton or maybe even lesser teams. This seems to be the last vestige of the previous regime and I really would love to see this situation corrected. The thread has made for interesting reading, thanks to all contributors.
  20. "Marquee" signing. How I've come to admire lazy b****** journalists. Somebody plucks a word out their a*** and all the lemmings follow. It seems that in addition to large tents, a canvas awning in front of a doorway is also a marquee. Well according to the "Seppos" ,(Australian for septic tanks = Yanks). So the welcome someone receives from a canvas cover hung with lights and baubles now becomes a "Marquee" signing. Tenuous at best I would have thought, but who can fathom the press? Sorry to have ranted about that, when one gets old and grumpy, all manner of things p*** one off and I've been waiting to get that off my chest for some time. Andy Todd is our local Perth Glory F.C."marquee" signing, so you can get an idea how much it's used out here. Thank you for your time in this matter. Apart from that, how glad I am to see Saints going so well. Hopefully only a minor hiccup against Leeds. Merry Christmas to all.
  21. Have to be Fratton Park. If not, certainly contains the lowest supporters.
  22. Well done St Marco,(post #72), a voice of reason amongst some peculiar points of view. I would, like most, prefer to be flying high instead of our present position, but really am happy to be where we are, rather than more of the joke administration we've had for the past years. More than happy.
  23. I am really hoping for a win, the same as the rest of us. I don't want a draw, but as has been mentioned elsewhere, Yoevil will park the bus. It can be very difficult to break down a team that is hear to defend, a reason overlooked by a few on here re the Colchester 10 man affair. Of course we all want a win. Of course it gets harder if we don't, but win lose or draw, we'll all be Saints fans after the fact. On the question of opinions,we all have them, even if some are not really entitled as much as others for whatever reasons. I recently had a visit from a relation who has played professionally. He was glowing in his praise for Gillet. I know he put in some good games at a higher league level last year, but hasn't figured at all this season. Could this be solely due to his lack of height? No matter what, surely hugely differing opinions over one so highly rated recently? Here's hoping for a resounding victory to get the season on track.
  24. Any of you chaps interested in joining The Flat Earth Society?
