Yes, I have to agree there, but that was L1 mid season, this is where the pressure goes up another notch. I sincerely hope another winning season occurs and that Adkins and Cortese turn out to be the best combination in football.

Is there a team that finished in the lower half or even mid table last season that can look forward to promotion this year? I would hope that Saints as a minimum consolidate in the upper levels of the division. If not, I can see Mr Cortese being a not too happy little chairman. I think to do this is dependant on some good additions to the squad. A little more farsighted than in January. Adkins certainly took us up, but did so with what was largely Pardew's signings. So it's going to be interesting to see how things are handled. I'm looking forward to a successful season by keeping on track for the 5 year plan.

Good luck to them. They have a rich owner who has spent afair amount of money, what's wrong with that? And before the ridicule of their numpties starts, we have a fair few of our own. Witness the preoccupation with Pompey and any other team that dares to call themselves our "rivals".

I'd love to see him stay, but to be realistic, if I were in his situation I'd be gone like a rat up a drain pipe. Also think his father's advice is probably more from a position of greater understanding than most of us are willing to concede.

This might well be branded as heresy but, the manager's record after gaining promotion is anything but glorious is it? I realise the circumstances are different in terms of finances, but is it possible he could have too much faith in some of his players? I'm not in a position to say one way or the other, but the thought has crossed my mind once or twice. Conversely, it is also a possibility we could be out of sight by Xmas in terms of promotion! Who knows?

I always wanted to be a Man U fan, but don't live far enough away from Manchester.

Adkins has my heartfelt thanks for getting us out of Div 1. Nigel Pearson's time here was under different circumstances, but doesn't really stack up against Nigel A's. Pearson however did very well with Leicester in Div 1 and Championship. Time to compare ability will be at end of next season. All of course, in my humble opinion.

That would be a "Whoosh" then?

Huddersfield deserve it, Bournemouth as neighbours, anything except that pie faced prat Ferguson.

Brighton Doing Us A Favour On Saturday Beating Huddersfield...!?!
ghq replied to dannysfc's topic in The Saints
In my opinion, Brighton have done an enviable job to date, but I think that having concentrated on winning the league, that same concentration may have slipped a little. Good luck to them, I hope they win, but not holding my breath. -
After the euphoria, (and much relief), of the win against BHA and the amusement at the their loonies plaintiff cries of robbed,we weren't trying et al, I think that sincere congratulations are to be extended to Brighton and Poyet on a job well done. Also, whether or not we like to make out they are not our rivals, of course they are and hopefully will be next season. Maybe not on the same level as Pmuff, but rivals from reasonably close by and like it or not, promoted way before us. So well done them.

Captain WE Johns was the author of the 'Biggles' books some of our older fans may remember. With the advent of political correctness, he and other authors were roundly castigated for the content of their books written years before. One of the passages he was brought to task for was -"He was dark and swarthy, his eyes were close together. Definitely not British." Describing an adversary our hero Biggles encountered. A truly shattering thing to foist upon young and unsuspecting minds in days gone by. Cant think of whom it reminds me.

I hope and pray Saints win against BHA, as if they don't Adkins isn't going to look too smart. Never, never give any kind of edge to an opponent. I really thought that was a basic understanding of any competetive sport management. Even if we get automatic promotion, I'm starting to have serious doubts that this man will take us further. However, I'm willing to hold off on that as a definitive statement.
-
As yet I've not seen Saints play under Adkins. Going along at the moment with good results, so can't complain and hope, as we all do, that it continues. However, I have reservations about the manner of some of the wins and will hold off until 2nd place is confirmed and are championship bound. I hate to think what this place will be like if we stagger in the run in and blow it.

I really can't understand how people are still making, or trying to make a case for the man. I was no fan of his from day one and had some foreboding of the man and his effect on the club. Not that I could foresee how bad it eventually ended up. (sound a bit like Mystic Meg there.)

Nine wins and a draw and we can't be knocked out of 2nd spot. I'd be happy with that.
-
If he was in attendance I'm surprised we didn't lose; the bloke is like a miasma of crap over anything to do with Saints.
-
Was it ever suggested you might partake of a gender differentiation course?

Howard stated to freinds in a pub in Chandler's Ford 15 months ago that he wouldn't mind playing for Saints. However, in light of Cortese's recent record on signings I'd be very surprised if we heard about his signing, if indeed it occurs, from anywhere except the Saints site.

I tried to get on earlier, but was informed 'udders forum would only accept "Commodore 64 or earlier." In fairness an interim situation as they are still in the changeover stage from steam radio and expect to be connected via Manchester sometime in the very near future.

Given the difference in points accrued per games in the above table, it would seem some of the harsher critics of StLard may be just that, overly harsh. I don't necessarily subscribe to his views, but let's not get carried away because his views are not our own. Some on here take great delinght in ridiculing others and frankly it's not a good thing for the overall enjoyment of a particular thread. Just of course a different point of view.

Just done the predictor and come up with a pie in the sky figure of 93 points, comfortably in second position. However, a more rational attempt has us on 84 points, level with Bournemouth. I now consider both attempts as complete rubbish and will just have to wait and see like the rest of you soothsayers.

I think Brighton might well have had it's bad trot, so short of meltdown by them, I can't see us catching up. Second place, at the moment, is a lottery, but as has been pointed out by many, it's in our hands. Have faith.
