  1. We have the better strike force but Leeds definitely have a better defence and midfield IMO. You have to say they have regrouped very well in league 1 having had an even more spectacular fall from grace than us over the last 6-7 odd years. It's a good tight knit team they have there. Unless they lose a substantial number of key players (not going to happen) or have a catastrophic loss of form (can't see it happening) I see them in the top 2 at the season's end. If they can then keep this team together I'd also quite fancy them for a CCL play off spot next season (like Leicester this season). Who knows - they could be knocking on the prem door in 2011. However with their obnoxious mouthy support and dirty history I dislike them just about more than anyone else - including the lot down the road (they just give me a good laugh these days) so I'd be more than happy to see the wheels come off this particular run of theirs.
  2. I'd be happy to see this bubble burst, anything to make the playing field more level and end this utterly tedious procession of league tiles for Man U, Arsenal and Chelsea. Maybe then we'd get back to a much more competitive top division like it was in the 80s when teams like Ipswich, Saints, Norwich and even Watford had a crack at the top spot. Back then the likes of Man U still had an advantage over clubs like Saints BUT it was in proportion to the size of their fan base and was therefore not totally overwhelming. If one of the smaller clubs ran itself very well it always had a chance to successfully compete - now there is no chance whatsoever and top flight football is massively dull as a consequence.
  3. Well done on the win however being as we're not going to win this cup I hope we can get a big gun away in the next round and bow out with our heads held high. Arsenal or Spurs away would do me just fine.
  4. Was there a beer wielding queue behind him?
  5. I'll always remember that game as when our season ended and we started our downward spiral - right down to administration and almost going out of existence. I thought at the time that Redknapp had put a remarkably good team together (despite L**e only giving him something like 90k) and we were doing OK, looking promising for at least a play off spot. However after that defeat confidence went, Redknapp left along with key players like Quashie and the whole season slipped down the pan. Despite the play off season (which never felt particularly sustainable) I think the big slide happened that afternoon and I truly think that its only now that our trajectory is finally starting to curve upwards again. Hopefully tomorrow will be a bit of revenge.
  6. Would be ecstatic with a win, chuffed with a draw and not too downbeat with a loss. That all said, if anyone is capable of going there and getting 3 points it's us. We are no 1 in away form after all.
  7. Sounded like a very good win last night. It's a great sign when the team can claw things back against one of the league 1 contenders even when we aren't playing too well. Although I rate this cup as mickey mouse I hope we get a big confidence boost from this game to take into our tough looking Dec\Jan fixture list.
  8. I couldn't care less about the cups so I'd rest any players that might need it - be it for medical or disciplinary reasons. For me it's all about the league and a determined push for the play offs. I want out of this league ASAP.
  9. Norwich is basically Norfolk's + the northern part of Suffolk's only club. That's a fairly big area to draw on unrivaled support. Still, I think our attendances will rise in the 2nd half of the season.
  10. If Connolly stays fit and gets selected then I quite fancy our chances of winning all those games apart from Leeds which I think will be a draw. Whilst we may be looking at those fixtures thinking they are tough I 'm sure that every team about to face us is more concerned than we are. We are the form team with arguably the best strike force in the league. Let them worry about us for a change.
  11. Really pleased with a win against a team chasing the playoffs themselves. Connoly and Lambert are starting to look like the most deadly strikeforce in the division. It's been a real slog all season but now for the first time the players must be looking at the table and thinking play offs are a serious proposition. I know I am.
  12. Which ever way you look at it it's very powerful form. Keep this up and playoffs will happen. Really pleased with todays result - thought it could have been a real banana skin. Need to be targeting another 3 against Tranmere and a draw at Leeds. The other teams don't seem to be able to cope with a Connoly\Lambert combo up front.
  13. Just need to keep a clean sheet and job done.
  14. Beckford.
  15. Its going to be a tough game but one we have to win if we want top 6. I've got a Walsall supporting friend (who i'll be seeing on sat evening) and he said that they are built on defence. Sounds like they'll be a tough nut to crack but once opened we should be ok.

    Last 13 Games

If we were to repeat the results of the last 13 games over our next 13 league games then we'd have 51 points with 14 games to go. If that were to happen then I'd quite fancy our chances of getting to the playoffs.
  17. A play off final place would bring out more! If we could scrape into the top 6 I'd fancy our chances of making that final too.
  18. Wycombe will park the bus and try to frustrate us. Got a funny feeling they will score against play but we will come back to just about scrape home with a 2-1 victory (winning goal scored in the dying minutes).
  19. Has to be the league. With 28 games left to play and a 13 point gap between us and 6th place there is still everything to play for, even if the chances are slim. Cups are a meaningless distraction as far as I'm concerned - I want out of this division ASAP.
  20. I'm with Connolly, seems crazy to use someone like Paul Wotton in a 4-5-1 rather than Connolly in a 4-4-2. AP needs to be braver with his team selections IMHO.
  21. Although we still have a slim chance I'm resigning myself to no play offs this year. Our results against the top teams indicates to me that we're not quite good enough to catch them up. Maybe we're not as good as we thought we were. Very disappointing esp. as we have had more money spent on us than anyone else but that's life as a fan of this club I guess. For me mid table at the end of season was always par for the course, play offs would have been a nice bonus. Next season though - play offs at least.
  22. Being as the TV cameras spot things like this within seconds why can't there be a 2nd ref in the stands that has instant access to the TV pics? They could have overruled this 'goal' within seconds and the game then recommenced. I think that they should also have cameras in the goalposts to check for the 'on the line' goal decisions. I don't think that you need these precautions for all games BUT being as this was a very big match with very big consequences why didn't the authorities authorise the use of technology? Maybe use it for proper (not friendly) internationals only? That said, all this hullabaloo over Henry is because Ireland lost. Would there have been such a big reaction if Keane had handballed before scoring? It's all a bit hypocritical really.
  23. Whilst I'm still not convinced about AP (too timid in the games I've seen IMO) the original post is way OTT. Every team will have a dodgy game here and there and hopefully this was it. We've had something like 8 unbeaten before yesterday so I think its only fair to lay off the guy. However if we lose the next couple of games - one against Norwich - we'll slip back in the relegation zone and the pressure will ratchet up so fingers crossed this was just a blip and a valuable lesson learned.
  24. There is a bar in Val Claret that I've been to a few times that shows most sports events. Might be stretching it for this one though!
  25. The difference between Brighton and Saints today? Heart. Frustrating that we've now had 2 opportunities to get out of the bottom 3 and we've blown both. However a win against Norwich would go a long way to erasing todays disappointment.
